Redlands Cross Country Championships 2022
It was unfortunate to have the Secondary School Cross Country Carnival postponed today, we are however, looking forward to hosting the carnival in early term 3. Stay tuned for more information.
Cross Country Training
We will continue to offer Cross Country training on Friday afternoons throughout Term 2 to interested students. These sessions are open to all students and will not only prepare students for the Cross Country Carnival but will also assist students participating in the 2022 Representative Winter Sports Season.
When: Friday Afternoons
Time: 3.30pm-5.00pm
Venue: Balmoral Oval
If you are interested in joining this group please fill out the Cross Country Training Expression of Interest Form. Please contact Mr Walker (Head Coach) if you have any questions.
Basketball
All students need to return their basketball singlets to the sports department.
Please ensure you have done this by the end of term.
Tennis
We have had quite unfortunate weather in the past couple of weeks which has caused multiple training sessions cancelled. Nonetheless, the students have shown great commitment and enthusiasm when given the chance.
Last week, we had Tristan Wong represent Redlands in the ISA vs. GPS and CAS tournament. It was a great day all round with intermittent showers still allowing Tristan to demonstrate his talent in front of the other schools.
I hope you all have a great Easter break and come back ready to rock and roll in Term 2.
Football
Thank you to all Football players who attended the season launch last Friday, it was fantastic to get the whole Football program together ahead of the 2022 Season and to hear from our Football Captains, Brianna Irvine and Toby Van Extel. A huge than you to the Friends of Football who very kindly gave every Football player in the program a can of drink and a chocolate bar.

AUSTRALIAN ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS
View End of Season Rowing Video
Last week we had 15 students represent Redlands at the Australian Rowing Championships held in Nagambie (VIC).
Elizabeth Holtheuer (Yr.12) started the campaign early racing in composite crews in both the Women’s Under 19 Double Scull and the Women’s Under 19 Coxless Quad Scull. Progressing through the heats and semi-finals, she narrowly missed out on a bronze in the Double Scull but Elizabeth and her crew racing in the Coxless Quad Scull were unchallenged by the field and finished with a very strong Silver medal.
Later in the week the Boys 1st, Girls 1st and Girls 2nd crews (the Girls 2nd was to be an Under 17 crew but unfortunately COVID required a last minute change) joined Elizabeth in Nagambie. Our Girls 2nd crew of Sophia Maxwell (Yr.12), Cat Croll (Yr.11), Charlotte Scamps (Yr.11), Mikaela Sangar-Larsson (Yr.10) and cox Zara Naismith (Yr.10) progress through the repechages to finish 2nd in the E Final, placing them 26th out of 36 crews.
The Boys 1st crew of Daniel Close (Yr.11), Pat Walker (Yr.11), Harley van der Pluijm (Yr.11), Billy Thomas (Yr.12) and coxed by Fletcher Logan (Yr.10) also raced their way through the repechages and semi-finals to progress to the B final where they finished 3rd in the B Final, placing them 9th out of 18 crews.
It was however our Girls 1st crew of Georgia Verschoor (Yr.11), Alana Mansfield (Yr.11), Briar Carter (Yr.11), Elizabeth Holtheuer (Yr.12) and Charlie Harman (Yr.12) who progressed direct to Semi Finals with a dramatic win in their heat, ultimately finishing in 6th place in the A final, placing them 6th out of the best 36 crews in Australia.
Our students also managed to squeeze in a session on the Yarra River where we hope to attend a regatta early next season with some of our select senior crews.
A big thank you to our many parents who travelled to Nagambie to cheer on our crews and also to the Head of Sport, Ms Alison Cox who helped with supervision for the week, I’m sure she is a rowing coach in the making!
ROWING PRESENTATION DINNER
On Tuesday 5th April we were once again able to hold our annual Rowing Presentation Dinner with just shy of 300 people in attendance at Zest, this is the first time since 2019 that we have been able to do this. The presentation dinner is where we can reflect on the achievement of the past season along with acknowledging individual students with the rowing awards.
A huge thank you to the Friends of Rowing and specifically Jane Rogers and Erica Bongarzoni for all the work they put into the evening.

Wet Weather
If training is cancelled due to wet weather, a notification will be posted on the Redlands Sport Twitter page (@RedlandsSport) in addition, an email will be sent out to both students and parents. This includes morning & afternoon training along with weekend fixtures.
Fixtures
A friendly reminder that the weekly Fixtures (The Redlands Rhino) can be found on the Secondary School Sport page on Redlands Pulse from Wednesday each week. Please ensure you check this on Friday each week to ensure you have the most up to date fixture information.
Uniform
The Redlands sports uniform should be worn to all trainings and matches (students are not permitted to wear any non-Redlands branded clothing). In the event of inclement weather students should wear their Redlands fleece or sports tracksuit.
Game time and arrival times
Students should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled fixture on Saturday (unless directed otherwise). Please ensure you know where you are playing and the likelihood of traffic on Saturday mornings to allow adequate time.
Attendance at Sport
Can we please draw your attention to the following communication process regarding absence from sport:
- Parents are required to send an email to the appropriate Sports administrator prior to missing any training session asking for them to be excused
- Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture
- Injured students are required to attend all training sessions and Saturday fixtures
- Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards & result in school disciplinary action
Please note that the first unexplained absence will result in a lunchtime detention with further unexplained absences escalating to a Friday afternoon Detention. Please refer to the Student Planner 2022 for full details on requirements for participating in a Representative Sport.
