Year 9

Welcome to Term 2! We hope that the Easter period provided the opportunity for some rest and relaxation.

This term we welcome two new students into our Yr 9 community. Momo Elsworth has joined Cowper Yellow and Mark Danse, Roseby Red. We thoroughly look forward to meeting Momo and Mark in person hopefully in the not too distant future.

Tutor Time remains a fun opportunity for students to interact with their Tutor Group online.

  • This term, Tutor Time will start at 10.40am via Zoom and will run for 20 minutes. Students will meet every day (Independent Learning Days included).
  • This week, Tutors and students have been reflecting on student Term 1 Approaches to Learning Reports. Students have been setting SMART goals in response to their Effort Tracking Scores and individually meeting with their Tutor to discuss goals.
  • Chapel will continue to be held each Friday. Everyone will attend their Tutor Group Zoom meeting when they will watch a message from our Senior Campus Chaplain. Students can then opt to either complete Chapel reflection questions provided or step away from their screens prior to Period 3.

In response to student, parent and staff feedback, over the break there were some changes to our Remote Learning arrangements. All information was shared with parents via the Term 2 welcome letter sent from Mr Sean Corcoran. Students also familiarised themselves with this information on Tuesday. All relevant documents are available for review on Redlands Pulse and on the Yr 9 Pastoral Care iLearn page.

Absence

Student attendance at Redlands is monitored regularly.  A reminder that every absence must be supported by an email from a parent/guardian to Secondary School Absences. We understand that there can be a number of reasons for absence. How can students help in the process of keeping accurate attendance records?

  • Having technical issues? We understand that there can be issues with personal devices. Students should promptly email their teacher to receive the work for the lesson. Issue is persistent? Email iSupport to receive assistance and contact all subject teachers.
  • Late to class? This could mean that the student misses roll-call. It is the students’ responsibility to manage their time appropriately and be ready for the start of each lesson.
  • Private Lesson? Students may need to remind their Private Tutor to take/amend the roll.
  • Sick? Allow appropriate time to rest and get better.

Virtual Mother’s Day Classic 2020

The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research. The aim of the Mother’s Day Classic is to deliver a fun, healthy and inspirational community event that brings the community together on Mother’s Day to support and remember those touched by breast cancer. Have fun, get active and help us raise funds online for vital breast cancer research.

The Redlands community has taken part in the Mother’s Day Classic for many years and we don’t want this year to be any different. We’re calling on students and family members, staff and alumni to sign up and support this wonderful event as it goes virtual.

We challenge participants to walk or run 4km or 8km – anytime, anywhere, in your living room, at the local park or even in your backyard – on or before Mother’s Day (Sunday 10 May) and be a part of something big.

Join the Redlands MDC20 Team and show your support for our community!
