Year 9
Yr 9 Curriculum Camp
Last week saw our Yr 9 students travel to Wee Jasper (60km from Yass) in rural NSW, for our annual Curriculum Camp. We were blessed with beautiful weather for the majority of the week and students were able to experience the rugged beauty of the Wee Jasper area at its best. We were ably supported during the camp by staff from OEG (Outdoor Education Group) as well as a fabulous group of Redlands teachers. Students hiked, canoed, caved and camped under canvas for the duration. OEG group leaders commented upon the strength of character of our Yr 9 students, and were thoroughly impressed with their manners, demeanour, and the positive attitude displayed by our students. I would like to thank parents for assisting and preparing the students with the appropriate gear as this was essential in ensuring all students had a positive experience.
Arnhem Land Immersion Opportunity
In the April School Holidays next year, students from our Year Group have the opportunity to live with and learn from the Yolngu people of Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. This is an incredible experience that allows students to develop a greater knowledge and understanding of our land, Aboriginal culture and self. All parents and students are invited to find out more at the Information Evening on Thursday 24 May at 6pm in Redlands Hall. Any questions should be directed to Simon Colyer.
Yr 9 Commerce Market Day
The Yr 9 Commerce Market Day will be held next week (Week 4) Thursday 24 May. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills from their current Commerce topic, Running a Business. Students will each make an equity investment in their business and will charge some nominal operating costs (these are donated to the Redlands Scholarship Fund). With good planning, they will ultimately regain their initial investments and then all profits will be distributed to a charity chosen by students.
Cross Country – Knox Invitational Carnival
On Saturday 12 May, Redlands competed at the CAS/GPS XC Carnival for the first time. The Carnival was hosted by Knox Grammar School at St Ives Showground and attracted many independent schools from across NSW. The meet was great preparation towards the ISA Cross Country Carnival which is coming up on 30 May. James Barrelle competed in the Junior 4k and was the first ISA runner across the line. We warmly congratulate James on this great achievement especially as the Carnival was on the Saturday morning after Yr 9 Camp.
ISA Netball
Olivia Donoghue competed in the ISA Netball trials on Friday 11 May and was selected for the Under 15s ISA team. This is a wonderful achievement and we look forward to hearing of Olivia’s progress as the season begins.
Manly Daily Junior Sports Star Award
George Murphy was nominated for the Manly Daily Junior Sports Star, Individual Award for 2018. The article appeared in the Manly Daily on Saturday 12 May. We congratulate George for his nomination and are proud of his continued commitment to Snowsports. George has demonstrated his ability to balance both his sporting and academic commitments and this is testament to his discipline and approach in both areas. Well done George.
