Year 9
Interesting Article of the Week
This week I have attached a link to the website of an organisation called ‘Smiling Mind’, as students are starting to focus more in the Pastoral Care Program on the concept and practice of mindfulness. The website provides an explanation of what mindfulness is and how it can be practised daily by young people to improve many areas of their lives such as less stress and more energy. There is also a talk by Associate Professor Dr Craig Hassed from Monash University explaining the scientific benefits behind mindfulness.
Athletics ISA Carnival
Congratulations go to the following Yr 9 students who participated this week in the ISA Athletics Carnival: Eva Crewes, Charles Henderson, Ruby Kelly, Harry Knight, Emmi McDonald, Jake McLeod, Shaun Patrick, Lauren Smith and Olivia Vigneault. A special mention goes to the following students: Lauren Smith for winning the U15 100m, 200m and 400m and Olivia Vigneault for returning all the way from Winter School to win the U15 800m.
All the Redlands girls are congratulated in particular, as both the Junior and Intermediate Girls won the Shields, and the Overall Girls Shield was won for the first time since 1997.
Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships
Last week the Yr 9 girls did particularly well at the Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships. Within a highly competitive field, the team consisting of Callie Forest and Mia Kloiser-Jones (with Lucy Roberts from Yr 10), achieved third place in the Snowboard Giant Slalom race. Callie and Mia then raced with Tess Callaghan in the Snowboard Cross event and also achieved third place.
Pastoral Care Program
Some of the students have begun looking at Mindfulness activities and implementing them during Pastoral Care time.
Social Awareness Program
Students are finishing off their presentations of organisations addressing inequality for refugees, or coming up with ideas as to how they can support or increase awareness for these organisations.
Yr 12 Legacy Gift
The Yr 12 Legacy Gift Team is continuing their fundraising efforts by hosting a lunchtime sausage sizzle and drinks stall on Thursday 19 September, available to all Secondary School students. Please ensure your child brings money to School next Thursday if they wish to purchase a BBQ lunch.
If you wish to join Yr 12 on their Legacy Gift journey and contribute to the means-tested Scholarship Fund with a tax deductible gift, please Donate Here. Every gift matters!
I hope you have a wonderful week.
