Interesting Article of the Week

Please watch

This week I have attached a link to a Ted Talk by Shauna Shapiro, PhD, who is a Professor at Santa Clara University, a Clinical Psychologist, and an internationally recognised expert in mindfulness. Mindfulness is a habit that can help all of us deal with the stresses of life. It is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we are doing, and not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what is going on around us.

Athletics

Congratulations to Olivia Vigneault who participated last week in the NSW All Schools Cross Country competition. Olivia performed admirably and finished in 33rd place in the 15 Years Girls 4kms.

Pastoral Care Program

This term the focus is on students learning to balance work and school. We are beginning with some resources produced by DARTA (Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia), starting by looking at perceived norms and if the students’ perceptions reflect the majority of Australians of their age. In particular the topic of alcohol use has been discussed and strategies to look after themselves and each other at social occasions.

Social Awareness Program

Students this term are learning about refugees and the inequality that they suffer as a result of their unfortunate circumstances. The first couple of weeks they are beginning to understand what a refugee, asylum seeker and displaced person is and why they face a high level of inequality.
