Year 9
Welcome back to Semester 2, Term 3! I hope you all had a restful time over the school holidays and were able to spend some quality moments with your family. We would like to warmly welcome Scarlett Wadham who joins us in Yr 9. We would also like to welcome back Alex Ridler who returns to Redlands this week, and Janne Stiefel who is with us for two terms. Term 3 is a busy one and is ten weeks long, finishing on Friday 27 September. In the next school holidays, several Yr 9 students are going on the Service Learning trip to Fiji, organised by Tony Dong, and which I am fortunate enough to also be attending. In addition, many Yr 9 students will be leaving for Winter School this weekend and will be spending the term at the snow, so we wish them a happy and safe time. I am hoping to pop down for a few days to spend some time with them in the classroom and on the slopes at some point.
Interesting Article of the Week
As I am slowly grappling with raising two teenage boys and dealing with the stress of one sitting his HSC this year and the other daily turning from a boy into a man, I decided to do a bit of research into how to raise a teenage boy. In my search I found this article on “Things no-one tells you about parenting a teenage boy”, and realised, once again, that having children should come with an instruction manual! As I read this article, I must confess to be guilty of making, and continuing to make, many mistakes while attempting to raise my boys in what I think is the best possible way. “Don’t expect instant compliance” and “your way will not always be the best way” are two pieces of advice that at times I may be guilty of ignoring! I hope you enjoy the read.
Snowsports Redlands Cup
During the last week of the school holidays, a number of talented Yr 9 students participated in Thredbo for Race Week. A full set of results will be posted on Redlands Pulse Note Day with the following Yr 9 students involved in the week:
Ben Harrington, Zac Corneil and Alex Bush – Snowboard Division 2 Male
Callie Forest, Tess Callaghan and Mia Kloiser-Jones – Snowboard Division 2 Female
Katina Casimaty, Dasha Sychova and Sophie Kennedy – Alpine Division 2 Female
Billy Thomas, Ben Harrington and Harrison Fung – Alpine Division 2 Male
Haircuts
There are a large number of boys who need haircuts urgently. They have all been spoken to by Mr Dong and given a date in which to get this done by. It would be most appreciated if you could check with your son and assist us in ensuring this is done. Boys going to Winter School whose hair is currently too long have been asked to get a haircut before the end of the week as there will be little or no opportunity for them to do so while at the snow.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
