Year 9

Interesting Article of the Week

Please read

As we get closer to Yr 9 Camp in Week 11, I thought this short article may be of interest to you. It briefly explains the benefits of Camp for both students and teachers; helping to build resilience, independence, teamwork and self-esteem. I know many students feel anxious about attending Camp, but most afterwards remember it as a positive and ‘real-life’ experience.

Camp

Camp runs from Monday 8 to Friday 12 April. This year, medical forms are not required; however, please ensure all medical details on Redlands Pulse are correct and up-to-date. You will also have to provide electronic permission via Redlands Pulse, as you normally would for any excursion.

An additional form (that I have emailed to you) will only need to be completed if your son or daughter experiences asthma, allergies, dietary requirement, diabetes or any other health issue. An Asthma Management form must be completed by any person who suffers from asthma. If any of the Key Questions on the Asthma Management form are answered with Yes, further medical information may be required. If this is the case, the Program Coordinator may request a Medical Advisory Plan to be completed.

The Allergy Management form must be completed for any person who suffers from allergies.

The Dietary Management form must be completed for any person who has a food allergy, intolerance or preference.

Participants with diabetes are required to provide a completed Medical Advisory Plan (MAP). In addition to this, it is a requirement to have an up-to-date management plan/care plan for all students with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, a copy of this must be attached and returned with the MAP.

If you would like to provide any additional medical information for your child, please ask your doctor to complete the Medical Advisory Plan. OEG will use this information to prepare their staff and adjust the program accordingly.

These forms are to be handed in or emailed to me and Tony (rmountain@redlands.nsw.edu.au and tdong@redlands.nsw.edu) by the end of Friday 29 March.

International Day

Tuesday next week is International Day when we celebrate Redlands diverse international community and highlight the cultures of the languages that we teach. Tuesday will be a mufti day and students are encouraged to wear country–themed national dress with House points being awarded for the best traditional outfits. If students do not wish to wear national dress, they are encouraged to wear the colours of their assigned country.

McDouall: Japan
Roseby: Spain and Ancient Rome
Cowper: China
Dumolo: France

They should refer to their Student Planner for guidelines on appropriate mufti day attire. It is expected that students will make a gold coin donation towards UNICEF Change for Good on the day.

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Liz Holtheuer who finished 7th in the A final for the U17 Single Scull this week, after winning her Semi Final, in the Australian Rowing Championships. This was an amazing effort, given there were around 70 entries for the event and Liz was competing as a 14 year old.

Market Day

Yr 9 were actively involved in Market Day this week over the course of two days, as part of their Commerce topic Running a Business. All students have been working in small groups throughout the term, to produce a product to sell on the day to staff and students of Redlands. The two days were extremely successful with most products selling out during lunchtime.

Pastoral Care Program

This week the Pastoral Care program have been completing their Approaches to Learning and also beginning some online content from the Burn Bright Pastoral Care day.

Social Awareness Program

This week students are continuing to create a presentation regarding their chosen organisation on gender inequality.

Have a great week!
