Year 9

Birthday Celebrations

Yr 9 (and many other Year Groups) will be running a birthday celebration initiative for each Tutor Group on a Monday morning. All students will be assigned a buddy who they are responsible for helping celebrate their birthdays for that coming week. If there is more than one birthday in the week then both or all will be celebrated on that Monday. The aim is to spend time thinking about each other and celebrating special moments for all, helping to bond as a Tutor Group. The initiative is not supposed to be onerous or expensive, and it is hoped that the buddy will actually bake a cake themselves rather than buy it. I am confident that the students will enjoy this opportunity to socialise with their Tutor Group and get to know each other better. If you have any questions about this initiative, please contact your Tutor.

Fiji Opportunity

A reminder of the Fiji Service learning opportunity in the October school holidays. Students from our Year Group have the opportunity to travel to Fiji and immerse themselves in Fijian life. This is the third year that Redlands has partnered with Rustic Pathways to provide this opportunity for Yr 9 students.

The trip is split into two sections. The first is spent in a highlands village, where students are accommodated via a homestay program and engage in a range of cultural immersion and Service activities. Following this, students return to the coast at Rustic Pathways Momi Bay Base. During this time, students work with a Marine Biologist to assist and learn about environmental management of the surrounding reef and coastal area.

This program gives students a wide range of experiences, whilst developing their understanding of the Fijian culture. It is designed to both educate and challenge students, helping them to embrace the concept of being a global citizen.

All parents and students are invited to find out more at the Information Evening on Tuesday 12 February at 6.00pm in the Roseby Library on the Senior Campus. Any questions should be directed to Simon Colyer.
