Year 9

Good Luck to our Senior Choir

Our Senior Choir members are performing with The Cat Empire at the Sydney Opera House this week on Friday night.

Our Year 9 students who are part of this group are Ava Atkinson, Eva Blundell, Hugo Burton, India Dutton, Jessica Jackson, Talie Kara, Ruairi Lambert, Philomena Lee, Zoe McKeown, Sahara Nicolas, Isabella Solgaard, Emilia Stucci, Zoe Trevena, William Vass and Tara Ward.

We hope it goes well and that it is a wonderful experience.

House Debating

The House Debating competition continued this week with Cowper taking on Dumolo on the topic: ‘The study of Shakespeare should not be mandated in the Australian curriculum.’

The debate was well-argued and considered questions of current relevance, language development and teacher influence on student understanding of Shakespeare’s work. Adjudicator, Jack Keogh (Year 12) ultimately awarded the debate to Cowper based on the strength of their argument on the timelessness of the themes in Shakespeare’s work and how this can teach us about changing societal attitudes today.

Screens at Bedtime

An interesting article published yesterday by The Conversation examines the impacts of screen time in the evening and before bed – It’s almost impossible to keep teens off their phones in bed – but new research shows it really does affect their sleep.

Bougainvillea Talent Showcase

We are thrilled to announce the Bougainvillea Redlands Talent Showcase, a wonderful event that offers students a unique opportunity to share their talents and connect with the community! The showcase will be held at the Bougainvillea Retirement Village on 19 September, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Not only is this a chance for your child to perform and brighten the day of some truly lovely people, but it also provides a meaningful way to earn extra service or CAS hours.

Whether your child prefers to perform solo or as part of a group, all types of acts are welcome! It’s a fantastic way for students to develop their confidence, showcase their skills and experience the joy of giving back. Participating students will enjoy a fun and rewarding afternoon.

Encourage your child to take part in this heartwarming event. Entry submissions are due by 16 September at 3:30 pm.

Students can sign up here.
