Year 9

Subject Focus – Drama

Across Monday and Tuesday evening our Year 9 Drama classes presented their performances for their current assessment which required them to delve into some of the more complex times and events that have shaped Australian history.

Students were required to undertake significant research into an event such as The Great Emu War of 1932 or the 2020 Bushfires and develop a ‘doco drama’ style performance, highlighting some of the controversies surrounding the event.

An additional challenge put to students was the need to work in groups with others that they may not necessarily have done before and fully develop their own scripts.

Thank you to the Drama Department and especially, Miss Samantha Novis and Mr Lincoln Gidney for their wonderful support in helping students prepare for and stage these performances. What an incredibly valuable learning experience for our students.

Subject Focus – Art

Year 9 Art students are currently studying sculpture and I was lucky enough to see some of their wonderful works throughout the week.

Da Vinci Decathalon

The Year 9 Da Vinci Decathlon team brought home honours in the form of a 3rd place subject award in Science. This is a fantastic and well deserved result for a group of students who bond together in a highly collaborative manner and thrive on deep, rigorous thinking across a range of areas. Congratulations to Charlotte Boris, Soraya Christian-Hare, Alex Heller, Sophia Liu, Bowen Shiao, Abby Stante, Will Thomson and Will Vass for their excellent achievement. I look forward to reporting the full results when Top 16 placings are released later in the term.

Redlands Students Success at the RSYS Presentation Evening

The RSYS Dinghy Squad Presentation Evening was held on Saturday 11 May, with several Redlands students receiving coveted perpetual awards, which were presented by Redlands alumni Karyn Gojnich.

Congratulations to Year 9 student Thomas Beatty who received a number of awards on the night, including the RSYS “Spirit of the Squadron” Trophy.
