Year 9

This Week in Yr 9

This week, Yr 9 worked hard on their Commerce group projects. After conducting expert interviews with the partners last week, they were also encouraged to conduct user interviews with peers, teachers and family members. The point of the interviews is to gather insights connected to their challenge area. For instance, one challenge area involves avoiding discarding uneaten food. Students may wish to gather insights around the way different families shop for food, store food and ultimately make decisions about what they eat for dinner. Students are enjoying thinking critically about contemporary issues that affect themselves and the world around them.

Student Achievements

A huge congratulations to Lachlan Price-Pontifex (Yr 9) and Heidi de Saxe (Yr 9) who last week represented NSW All Schools at the Schools Sport Australia Boys & Girls 15&U AFL Championships held in Ballarat.

Lachlan was announced as the NSW Boys Co-Captain which is a huge achievement, his team went on to win 3 out of the 5 games beating ACT and TAS, they then knocked off Queensland to take out 5th place in the tournament.

Heidi’s team finished on top of Pool B, going through the groups stages undefeated. They lost to VIC White in the semi-finals, progressing to the Bronze Medal match, in which they were victorious over South Australia to take 3rd place.

At the completion of the tournament Heidi was named in the U15 Girls All Australian Merit team which is a fantastic achievement!

Congratulations to Heidi!

Student Absence for Assessment 7-10

A reminder to all parents and students that the Yr 7-10 Assessment Handbooks outline the process for student absence for assessment. Each year groups Assessment Calendars and Handbook are published on Pulse at the beginning of the academic year.

Below is a summary of the process parents must follow when notifying the school of their child’s absence for assessment:

  • Parents must inform the School via the Secondary School Absences email
  • Parents must write to the Head of Secondary outlining the reason for the leave, providing requisite details so the nature of the leave can be determined
  • The Head of Secondary will either deem the leave ‘approved’ or ‘unapproved’ and write to the family letting them know.
  • The Head of Secondary will pass this on to the Dean of Studies who will then communicate with the student and families regarding the requirements for any missed assessments, based on the nature of the leave.
