Issue 22 2023 Term 3 Week 3 - 03 Aug 2023

From The Principal

When I commenced at Redlands as the Head of the Secondary School in 2017, one aspect of the School that immediately stood out to me was the strength of our School Values of Compassion, Fairness, Honesty, Moral Courage, Respect and Responsibility. Not only do these values provide a foundation for the expectations and behaviours for all members of our community, but they also provide a guiding light for the types of students we hope walk out our gates at the end of their schooling journey.

Pleasingly, I have also seen during my time at Redlands that these values resonate deeply with students and staff. This year in assemblies across both campuses, I have regularly seen Section Heads focus on one or more of these values when speaking to students. Over the first half of the year, the Executive has been reflecting on how we live and lead these values in our roles at Redlands, and on the Professional Learning Day at the start of Term 3, I asked all staff to also focus on how they will live and lead our values in their work with students, staff and the wider community for the remainder of the year.

It will be exciting to see how all of us can further live our values of Compassion, Fairness, Honesty, Moral Courage, Respect and Responsibility to even further strengthen our community moving forward.

Over the past few weeks our Yr 12 students have been busily working to complete their HSC and IB Major Works as they enter the home stretch of the final year at Redlands. Last Thursday afternoon, I had the pleasure of attending the Yr 12 HSC Design and Technology Showcase where students displayed their Major Works and received authentic feedback to assist them in finalising their products and their folios over these next few weeks.

While I was impressed with the variety and overall standard of the Major Works on display, I was even more impressed by the insights and reflections the students shared in my discussions with them about their works and the processes involved in their creation. If at the heart of innovation is the process of trying, failing, learning and trying again, then our Yr 12 HSC Design and Technology students are already exemplifying our strategic driver of innovation.

This afternoon I look forward to attending the Junior School Music Festival, which is always one of the highlights of the Junior School calendar, and hearing the culmination of months of effort by all of the students and staff involved.

Community Update

We are not just a school, we are a community. As a community, we value the relationships we have with each other. Our students past and present, families, staff and members of local and global communities are valued and included through a shared connection with Redlands. As a valued community member, you belong to a network of over 20,000 students, teachers, and family members.

Our alumni of Redlanders can be found locally and globally. We continue to ensure the important connections with our community are nurtured and developed through Redlands dedicated alumni engagement program that includes interstate and international reunions and networking opportunities and a quarterly newsletter. We greatly value the relationships we build with our Alumni and our aim is to support a lifelong connection to the School. Our Foundation section this week features an update from Redlander, Lindsay McNeil (RL 19) who recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First Class Bachelor of Arts in Law (Honours). Lindsay continues her exceptional academic, sporting and service achievements beyond the school gates and we wish her well in her Postgraduate study in Law.

Bidding has now opened for the online auction of our fast-approaching Gala Ball and there has been lots of early interest in the wonderful array of items available. There will also be a live auction of some fabulous items on the night. A reminder that all proceeds from the Gala Ball benefit the Dr Sue Morey AM Scholarship Appeal. To read more about our Gala Ball, and the fabulous experiences, products and activities on offer, please check out the Foundation section of today’s Note Day. Thank you to our generous community partners, friends and families who have provided auction items, and to our community for their interest in the live and online auctions. Happy bidding all.

Tote Bags and Sports Towels developed and designed by our current Yr 12 cohort, in support of their Legacy Gift to the School, are now available for sale. The Legacy Gift provides our Yr 12s with a unique opportunity to thank the School for its support, encouragement and the opportunities offered while studying at Redlands.

Thank you for your continued guidance and support and as ever, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Community Engagement team, or to me directly, should you have any feedback, suggestions or questions.

Lindsay is thankful to The Cambridge Trust for its scholarship which enabled her to study at Cambridge. She succeeded academically while also competing in moots and mock trials, volunteering and captaining the University’s Women’s Seconds Basketball team. At Redlands she was the Dux every year from Years 7-12, including IB Dux in Years 11-12, also receiving a Scholastic button for each Secondary School year at Redlands. She was also a scholarship recipient and was one of the key Legacy Gift Team members.

What’s next for Lindsay? She now looks forward to commencing the Bar Course with the Inns of Court College of Advocacy in September, supported by Newnham College’s Margaret Kemp Scholarship for Postgraduate study in Law.

New members are always welcome! The Book Club meets twice each school term to discuss a book, rotating among members’ homes. Occasionally, outings are also organised to events, movies or shows that are tied in with books, including annual attendance at the Sydney Writer’s festival in May. If you would like to join Book Club, or simply want to know more, please contact Monica or Sabiha.

Our next book for this term is Babel by R.F. Kuang. The date for the meeting is to be confirmed. New book suggestions for next term are welcome!

Flexing

Yr 12 have been flexing in the ‘young adult’ space for a while now. The past week has been a formative one; leading across various school events such as Gala Arts, the Yr 10-12 Assembly (below) and a range of HSC and IB Showcases. They impress us with their compassion, diligence and flexibility.

As they commenced their Trial Examinations on Monday, there were some nerves and a sense of trepidation, but there was also quiet confidence and a shared pursuit for success. HSC commenced with English and IB with Economics. Everyone was on time, prepared, positive and keen to demonstrate skills and knowledge. HSC students Josie, Charlotte, Harry and Elke compare palm card notes on the Human Experience before the first English exam.

After School – Student Safety and Supervision

Once the school day concludes at 3.30pm, students have the opportunity to:

  • Attend Study Centre from 3.30-5.30pm in the Learning Hub
  • Attend an After School Club or Cocurricular Activity such as a Music lesson
  • Attend a scheduled Sport Training

If students are not engaged in the above activities, then they should make their way directly home.

For their own safety and wellbeing, students need to be supervised when on campus. This supervision takes place in the Learning Hub or in the designated spaces for Sport or Cocurricular activities.

Students are not permitted to leave School at 3.30pm to buy food and then return.

You are Invited!

We strongly encourage your attendance at the Visual Arts Exhibition to be held in Redlands Hall. Many parents, students and siblings of Yr 12 students were fortunate to be able to share in the skills, talents and innovative designs of Technology, Music, Dance and Drama students in recent weeks and months. Please do make the time to come along and celebrate the successes of our Visual Arts students!

Weathering the Storm

Our Secondary School counsellors shared their experiences and advice for supporting teenagers to weather the storm of anxiety and depression in our termly Wellbeing Parent Support Session. William Chen and Alessandro Digiacomo led this term’s session and one aspect that really resonated with Emotion Coaching. Like in many facets of social and emotional development, children learn a lot from their parents in terms of what’s appropriate in terms of their emotional responses. Even at this later stage of development in adolescence, learning from parents is still important (even though most teens would hate to admit this!). Emotion coaching is a structured approach developed by psychologists for parents to respond to big emotions – developed by John Gottman and Gottman institute. Below are a few examples of potential parental responses.

Emotion Coaching – Parent Responses

STEP

RESPONSE

1

Notice the Situation
Is something going on?

‘I see that something is up.’

2

Name the Emotion
What’s going on?

‘You seem a bit stressed at the moment.’

3

Validate the Emotion
It’s okay to feel like this in this situation!

‘I can understand why you might feel stressed and worried right now, it can be overwhelming thinking about all the assessments due this term.’

4

Meet the Need
How can we address the emotion?

‘Let’s go for a walk and clear our minds. When we come back, we can have a chat about it.’

5

Problem Solve
How can we fix things?

‘Let’s sort out a study plan and break things down into a few steps. I’m sure you can come up with a structure for the essay by tonight.’

Australian Mathematics Competition

On Wednesday 2 August, 163 Redlands students participated in the 2023 Australian Mathematics Competition held online in Redlands Hall and on the Winter School Campus under the capable leadership of Mathematics Teachers, Mr Christian Baker. It was affirming to hear the buzz of excitement after completion, as students discussed their strategies for problem solving with each other.

First run in 1978, the Australian Mathematics Competition is Australia’s longest running, largest and most well-known maths competition for school students. The Australian Mathematics Competition contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend students’ problem-solving skills. It was great to see so many of our students involved!

Jeans for Genes Day

Tomorrow, students can come to school in their favourite pair of jeans or denim clothing, as well as the colour blue. For the privilege of dressing down, a gold coin donation will be collected during Tutor. Students may also wish to purchase a blue ribbon before school for $2, or buy a sausage sizzle and can of soft drink in the Liggins Quad at lunch.

We are also asking for nut-free baked goods donations that will be sold at the Junior School on the day. The treats can be dropped off in the Liggins Staffroom before school tomorrow. Please include a visible list of ingredients.

Coming Together

There are many opportunities at Redlands to come together.

Supporting service and giving opportunities across the School. Our current collection for Jeans for Genes day and Wayside Chapel to name a couple.

Redlands also comes together in our Chapel Services.

On the Junior Campus, the theme for this term is inspired by The Wayside Chapel motto “Love over hate.” Jesus’ call for us to live with love for God and others will be explored each week. Our school value of compassion is also considered. In Chapel on the Senior Campus, the theme is Living Wisely. We are learning about the light of Christ and how we can live with authentic integrity. Students lit prayer candles and we continue to uphold the Yr 12s in prayer as they participate in the Trial Examinations.

There is also a community gathering for interested parents, caregivers, School Chaplains and interested staff to pray for the needs and wellbeing of the School.

This terms meeting is on Monday 21 August 7pm – 8pm, David Armstrong Room at St Peter’s Anglican Church Cremorne.

We look forward to seeing those who are able to join us.

New single application for scholarships – University of Sydney

Students can now complete one form to be considered for most scholarships at the University of Sydney*. High School students will need their most recent school report or HSC trial results, to answer self-reflective questions about their motivation to study and let us know what areas of study they’re considering. To be eligible for scholarships via this form, students must have a University of Sydney course in their UAC preferences by 29 September. They only need to complete the form once (unless their circumstances change) and upon successful completion, will be considered for equity and/or merit-based scholarships depending on their circumstances. Note, scholarships that have previously been awarded automatically (e.g. MySydney) will continue to be awarded automatically depending on a student’s eligibility.  However, we still recommend students apply for scholarships using this form so they can be considered for as many as, and to the highest value, possible.

Some University of Sydney scholarships will still require individual application per scholarship. See sydney.edu.au/scholarships for a list of all scholarships, including terms and conditions.

Year 12

HSC and IB Trial Examinations

Wishing the best of luck to all the Year 12 HSC and IB students as they embark on their Trial Examinations this week and next. It’s truly inspiring to witness the dedication and preparedness displayed by the entire Year 12 cohort, as they arrive for their exams fully equipped with the necessary materials and dressed in their full school uniform.

Moreover, it’s heartening to observe the diligence with which Year 12 has approached their studies, evident in the meticulously crafted study notes comprising flashcards, summative summaries, and highlighted texts—a testament to their commitment to do the best they possibly can in their exams.

Throughout the exam period, the central message conveyed to all Year 12 students has been to give their best effort, knowing that they have a supportive team of experts available to assist them should any challenges arise during the exams.

Recognising the significance of a well-rested and nourished mind, we encourage Year 12 to prioritise ample rest, quality sleep and nutritious meals during this intense period. A refreshed mind is essential for optimal focus and effective recovery between exams.

Moreover, we stress the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between academic pursuits and cocurricular commitments, be it in sports or any other extracurricular activities. A well-rounded approach to life during this time can contribute positively to overall well-being and performance.

In conclusion, we believe in the capabilities of each Year 12 student and wish them every success in their Trial Examinations. May they approach each test with confidence, knowing they have prepared diligently and have the full support of their school and loved ones. Go forth and shine!

Integrity and Wisdom

This week’s Chapel service was dedicated to integrity and wisdom. Students were asked to consider various scenarios and evaluate where they stood with their morals and how they would feel when judging appropriate responses in tricky situations. For Yr 11, part of their integrity is demonstrated through their honesty and their actions that demonstrate their moral principles. Students are also in the process of building stronger relationships with their teachers and developing trust with other year groups and staff members as they move into the position of leaders of the school.

Toward the end of Tutor, students were asked to consider a few situations they encounter daily at school and how small changes in their behaviour can demonstrate their honesty and help to build trust with those around them. In Yr 12, students also earn privileges by demonstrating their integrity and wisdom.

These small daily behaviours that demonstrate student’s integrity and wisdom include: saying hello to staff on duty whether they know them or not, respecting requests by staff during Recess and Lunch, taking ownership over their space during breaks and ensuring they leave the space better than they found it, following school rules, wearing their uniform correctly and proudly as well as engaging with peers appropriately throughout the day. These small changes send an impactful message to everyone around them.

Yr 11 are Stepping Up as Leaders

Well done to all students continuing to seek leadership opportunities and ways to get involved across campus. There is an eagerness and energy in the air for this cohort and they are encouraged to continue to embrace opportunities afforded to them. Students are volunteering their time to assist with Chapel services, organising Jeans for Genes Day this Friday, coaching Yrs 7-10 in Inter-House Debating, Meeting and Greeting at the gates and volunteering to assist Junior School students. Well done to Yr 11!

Year 10

Nutrition Seminar – The Biting Truth

Promoting optimal nutrition throughout every stage of life is imperative to nurture healthy growth and development. Similar to childhood, adolescence provides a pivotal juncture to foster positive dietary practices that can endure into adulthood.

A well-rounded and varied diet offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Enhancing overall health and well-being.
  • Fulfilling essential nutrient requirements.
  • Shielding against the onset of chronic disease like diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and premature mortality.

The quality and quantity of dietary intake exert considerable influence, as both inadequate and excessive consumption of specific foods and nutrients can contribute to health challenges. As stipulated by the Australian Dietary Guidelines (ADG), adolescents and young adults are encouraged to consume an array of nutritious foods daily, encompassing:

  • Abundant vegetables of diverse types and hues, in conjunction with legumes/beans.
  • Grain (cereal) foods, predominantly wholegrain and/or high cereal fibre varieties, such as bread, cereals, rice, pasta, noodles, polenta, couscous, oats, quinoa, and barley.
  • Lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts, seeds, and legumes/beans.
  • Milk, yoghurt, cheese, or suitable alternatives, preferably with reduced fat content.

For young women, foods rich in iron assume particular significance due to their escalated iron needs resulting from menstrual loss, especially compared to young men. It’s noteworthy that a considerable portion of girls aged 14–18 display inadequate iron intake.

The ADG also emphasise curtailing the consumption of foods and beverages laden with added sugars, including confectionery, sugar-sweetened soft drinks, cordials, fruit drinks, vitamin waters, energy drinks, and sports drinks. These beverages often introduce excessive kilojoules with minimal nutritional value and can heighten the risk of undesirable weight gain. Furthermore, they’re associated with an elevated likelihood of dental decay. Instead, the ADG advocate for ample water intake, as it fosters overall health, encompassing oral health.

This past Tuesday, we had the privilege of hosting renowned Australian Dietitian & media nutritionist, Alex Parker from The Biting Truth, for a Nutrition Workshop with our Year 10 students. This workshop served as an introduction to the forthcoming nutrition education they’ll receive as part of the PDHPE syllabus later this term.

The Biting Truth, an esteemed nutrition consultancy headquartered in Sydney, Australia, has gained recognition for its dedication to revolutionising nutrition education. Founded and directed by Anna and Alex, prominent figures in the nutrition industry, the company has established itself as a reputable source of evidence-based guidance. Focused on empowering young individuals with comprehensive insights into nutrition’s profound impact on overall well-being, body image, and contentment, The Biting Truth aims to equip the next generation with the knowledge needed to lead healthier lives.

The Biting Truth champions a balanced and practical outlook on nutrition and health, dispelling misconceptions and fostering a supportive environment for positive transformation.

Given prevailing trends indicating that merely 62.6% of teenagers meet the fruit recommendation and a mere 9% fulfill the vegetable recommendation, the demand for sustained education in this realm underscores the necessity for increased awareness both within educational institutions and homes. During the workshop, students received reminders regarding macronutrient equilibrium, the significance of distributing protein intake throughout the day rather than concentrating it, dietary considerations for variations to the ‘traditional diet’, and meeting essential vitamins and minerals, with a particular emphasis on calcium and iron for teenagers. They learned about carbohydrates as the “brain energy” source, the distinction between high and low glycaemic index foods, the impacts of caffeine (including energy drinks) on teenagers, and the importance of being discerning consumers when it comes to nutrition labelling and combating misinformation. Moreover, the workshop delved into debunking diets and elucidating the genuine constituents of healthy eating, highlighting the manifold avenues to gauge one’s health.

Remie Gibbs is to be congratulated on her recent involvement in the Sydney Eisteddfod. Her love for tap dancing has gained her notable achievement and accomplishment, securing a Highly Commended recognition in the 15 and over Tap Dance Championships. During the event, Remie showcased her skill in two distinct tempo dances. She executed a rapid tap routine to the tune of Top Hat, White Tie and Tails and skilfully presented a slower tap performance, which she had unveiled just 48 hours prior, set to the melody of Paper Moon. Notably, both routines were executed in her favoured style of Broadway tap.

Congratulations Remie on a wonderful achievement!

This Week in Yr 9

This week, Yr 9 worked hard on their Commerce group projects. After conducting expert interviews with the partners last week, they were also encouraged to conduct user interviews with peers, teachers and family members. The point of the interviews is to gather insights connected to their challenge area. For instance, one challenge area involves avoiding discarding uneaten food. Students may wish to gather insights around the way different families shop for food, store food and ultimately make decisions about what they eat for dinner. Students are enjoying thinking critically about contemporary issues that affect themselves and the world around them.

Student Achievements

A huge congratulations to Lachlan Price-Pontifex (Yr 9) and Heidi de Saxe (Yr 9) who last week represented NSW All Schools at the Schools Sport Australia Boys & Girls 15&U AFL Championships held in Ballarat.

Lachlan was announced as the NSW Boys Co-Captain which is a huge achievement, his team went on to win 3 out of the 5 games beating ACT and TAS, they then knocked off Queensland to take out 5th place in the tournament.

Heidi’s team finished on top of Pool B, going through the groups stages undefeated. They lost to VIC White in the semi-finals, progressing to the Bronze Medal match, in which they were victorious over South Australia to take 3rd place.

At the completion of the tournament Heidi was named in the U15 Girls All Australian Merit team which is a fantastic achievement!

Congratulations to Heidi!

Student Absence for Assessment 7-10

A reminder to all parents and students that the Yr 7-10 Assessment Handbooks outline the process for student absence for assessment. Each year groups Assessment Calendars and Handbook are published on Pulse at the beginning of the academic year.

Below is a summary of the process parents must follow when notifying the school of their child’s absence for assessment:

  • Parents must inform the School via the Secondary School Absences email
  • Parents must write to the Head of Secondary outlining the reason for the leave, providing requisite details so the nature of the leave can be determined
  • The Head of Secondary will either deem the leave ‘approved’ or ‘unapproved’ and write to the family letting them know.
  • The Head of Secondary will pass this on to the Dean of Studies who will then communicate with the student and families regarding the requirements for any missed assessments, based on the nature of the leave.

Student Absences During Assessments

As we are heading into the middle of the term with some assessment heavy weeks ahead it is worth refreshing the processes if a student will be absent for a formal task, this may be due to illness (the flu is back in full force) or for any other reason.  Section 4 of the Assessment Handbook outlines the processes required and I encourage you to read it in detail.

Two key requirements are:

  • Inform the School via the Secondary School Absences email for illness on the day
  • If there is an advanced knowledge of absence write to the Head of Secondary outlining the reason for the leave, providing requisite details so the nature of the leave can be determined.

Thank you very much for your support in this.

Yr 8 Dance

On the 23 July, the Redlands 7-9 Senior Jazz Performance Group was invited to perform at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney Eisteddfod’s Dance Gala. This group featured Year 8 students Juliet Whelan, Belle Monty, Amelie Dewar, Liliana Halfen, Izzy Bannon, Lucy Goodsall, Charlotte Algar, and Mia Cruttenden. This group was selected following their 1st place win at Sydney Eisteddfod last term.

Being selected for this gala is an incredible achievement, and getting to perform at the Opera House is a really exciting opportunity.

Juliet Whelan reflected on the experience saying, “It was an amazing experience to perform on a world-renowned stage with my friends”

Year 7

Building the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens

Semester 1 was a busy time for our Yr 7 cohort. For many students, assessments were a challenge as they were still finding their feet in the new Secondary School environment. Some were still developing their organisation skills, study procedures and general executive functioning skills. Indeed, many are still developing these skills, and we are continuing to work on them through explicit teaching in Tutor time as the term unfolds. Our focus this term in Tutor time is exploring the ‘Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens’. Adapted from a book written by Sean Covey, we are introducing students to importance of:

  1. Being proactive
  2. Beginning with the end in mind
  3. Putting first things first
  4. Thinking win-win
  5. Seeking first to understand, then be understood
  6. Synergising
  7. Sharpening the saw

Each week we will cover a new habit, hoping to build these into students’ approaches to their school life.

Pleasingly, a wide range of students are already embodying such successful habits, putting great effort into their studies and using this to power them towards high achievements. On Monday, in our Year Assembly, we recognised those students who achieved top academic results in one or more of their subjects from Semester 1. It was lovely to award so many certificates, showing that many students are working really hard across their courses.

Our Year Assembly was also boosted by Jaime Rogerson’s presentation on her recent involvement in the Netball State Championships. Representing her North Sydney club, Jaime’s team woke at 5:00am each morning, played around 7 games a day, and by the end of the tournament had achieved 5th place overall. An excellent achievement!!

Service Learning

Mrs Riley, Service Coordinator at Redlands also visited our Assembly to speak to Yr 7 about the importance of service learning and charity initiatives within the school. Service initiatives are not only a fun activity but an extremely worthwhile one, encouraging students to look beyond themselves to consider others; developing their empathy, compassion and worldliness.

This semester, Yr 7 will be introduced to a service program in Tutor, one which encourages them to consider how they can give back to our school community and local area. Watch this space for more details about how Yr 7 can ‘give back’ to our local area.

Yr 7-9 Assembly and Reminders about Behavioural Expectations

On Tuesday in our Yr 7-9 Assembly, students were treated to another magical piano performance from our resident maestro, Grace Walker-Barker. Again, she wowed the audience with her poise and confidence, serenely playing her Gala piece, Debussy’s Arabesque, to a rousing round of applause.

Following the performance, Mrs Jansons also took the time to remind students of behavioural expectations within the School. She particularly emphasised the importance of all of us playing a role ensuring that school is a place where everyone can attend with being nervous / anxious about unkind things being said about them or unfair actions being done to them. Behaviour like laughing at others, rather than with them; pulling down others’ sport uniform shorts or tripping them over as ‘pranks’ are not part of our values at Redlands and students who continue such behaviour will face consequences. Redlands is a school where fostering a safe and caring environment for everyone is a priority, and so Mrs Janson’s message was an important one for students to hear. We encourage it to be reiterated at home.

Yr 12 Buddy Support

Last Friday we began the first of four support sessions run by Yr 12 students as part of a service initiative established by Yr 12 student, Jessica Marshall. The students are attending a different House group’s Tutor time session each fortnight, and taking time to share their experiences with students around engaging in service initiatives in the school, and on how students can process examination / assessment results in order to make the most of feedback for improvement. Both of these areas are part of our Tutor time focus this term, and so having the Yr 12 students share their experiences with Yr 7 will be extremely valuable. It was wonderful to see how well the Yr 12s were interacting with our Y7s and how receptive the Yr 7s were to the advice and guidance of their Yr 12 buddies. Cowper had this benefit last week, but Dumolo, MacDouall and Roseby will not be far behind!

Yr 7 Make Some Shapes in PDHPE

In my adventures this week, I managed to pop my head into Core class 7O as they began their unit on gymnastics. I have new found respect for my PDHPE colleagues as they seek to harness the unbridled enthusiasm and energy of Yr 7 students and transfer it into valuable sporting pursuits. Our very own Assistant Year Advisor, Mrs Adams, was doing a fantastic job coordinating a variety of warm up fitness activities for 7O, including a teamwork focus as, mid exercise, students were required to form quickly into groups to make letters Mrs Adams called out to them. They were up to the task and worked collaboratively to form their letters – though, some were more convincing than others!

Public Speaking

Congratulations to Yr 7 students, Lauren Rolfe and Josh Lim, for their outstanding participation in the local final of the Legacy Junior Plain English competition at Queenwood School on Thursday, August 3. Both of them exhibited great confidence while delivering their prepared and impromptu speeches, which were not only insightful but also inspiring. Drawing from their personal experiences and thorough research, they addressed the topics of Journey and Social Media. Well done!

Jeans for Genes Day – August 4

This Friday, August 4, we are supporting Jeans for Genes day at Redlands. 1 in 20 kids faces a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and life-threatening metabolic disorders. That’s 12 kids born every minute worldwide. Jeans for Genes Day is all about helping to find treatments and cures by making a donation towards fundraising for the cause.

On Friday, a mufti day will be held to raise important donations for the cause. There will be a gold coin donation required for students wearing mufti – jeans and blue-themed clothing. Money will be collected in Tutor time. There will also be blue ribbons for sale and a sausage sizzle at lunch. So, make sure you bring in those gold coins!

This cause is particularly close to our Yr 7 heart with a push for supporting the day coordinated by Ari Abe-Apostolou and several of his friends. Together, they promoted a video encouraging support amongst the school Year Groups. You can find that video HERE.

Mackenzie and Vivienne on ABCs War on Waste:

This week, in recognition of his whole-hearted involvement in a range of Arts activities across the School, including performing in two pieces in the recent Gala Arts, Mackenzie Willis was the recipient of the ‘Fall Forward Award’. Mackenzie certainly embodies a vision of Redlands students as committed, compassionate and caring, and is certainly a valued recipient of this award.

Amazingly, his award also coincided with the airing of Episode 2 of ABC’s War on Waste where both Mackenzie and Vivienne Matthews were interviewed by presenter, Craig Reucassel, on how to reduce waste in the home. You can watch the episode through ABC iView.

Subject Selections for Yr 8 2024 – Coming up in Week 5!

In Week 5, Yr 7 students will be required to complete subject selections for Yr 8. They will be required to continue with one Language and one Creative / Performing Arts subject OR continue with both languages they are currently studying into Yr 8. On Thursday of next week, our Dean of Students (Yrs 7-10), Mrs Rolon, will be speaking to Yr 7 about the process involved and the implications some of their choices may have down the track. Full details in a Selection Booklet will be published and sent out to parents on Wednesday, August 8 – so, watch this space!

Mrs Rolon will also be speaking to Yr 7 about the new Academic Integrity Policy for Yrs 7-12, including the recent additions concerning the use of AI software. This will, no doubt, offer Yr 7 valuable information as they continue to move ahead in their studies this year.

Student Absences for Assessment Tasks (Years 7-10):

With the assessment season surely upon us this year, it is worth reminding parents / carers of the processes involved if student absence / leave during term time impacts the completion of assessments. These details are also outlined in the 7-10 Assessment Handbooks that are accessible through Pulse.

If a student intends to be absent on the day an assessment task is due, there are clear processes that need to be followed.

  • The parent must inform the School via the Secondary School Absences email
  • The parent must write to the Head of Secondary outlining the reason for the leave, providing requisite details so the nature of the leave can be determined.
  • The Head of Secondary will either deem the leave ‘approved’ or ‘unapproved’ and write to the family letting them know.
  • The Head of Secondary will pass this on to the Dean of Studies (Yrs 7-10) and she will communicate with the student and families regarding the requirements for any missed assessments, based on the nature of the leave.

Thank you for taking note of these details and adhering to this process.

UNICEF Australia Partnership

We are excited to share news of our partnership with UNICEF Australia with all of Yr 6 participating in a series of workshops with them next Monday 7 August on-site at Redlands.

Our strategic involvement with UNICEF Australia aims to deepen students’ understanding of natural hazards and disasters and the organisations who respond to them. UNICEF will speak about their work as a humanitarian organisation, the role of advocacy in protecting the rights of children when natural disasters occur and the significance of fostering a ‘can-do’ mindset that empowers young people to actively contribute to ameliorating problems rather than being mere bystanders.

Stay tuned for some exciting further developments in this space! We were fortunate to have UNICEF onsite earlier in the year for a co-design session with some Yr 6 representatives who shared with us what their ideal learning experience would look and feel like.

We have taken that information and imagined a real-world immersive scenario for Yr 6 that will round out their Unit of Inquiry and culminate in a visit to the UNICEF Australia Headquarters at the end of this term, where they will also present some of their learning.

This has been a project that has taken a number of months to co-design with UNICEF and I acknowledge the leadership, dedication and expert guidance from Redlands’ Innovation and Entrepreneurial Learning Strategist, Ms Liz Green, working closely alongside Yr 6 teacher, Ms Annabel Coome.

‘A Flight Plan to Resilience: Guiding Your Little Pilot through Turbulence in Life’

Our termly parent session on Student Wellbeing will explore and focus on how to encourage the development of resilience in our children. Delivered again by our own expert team of Junior Campus School Counsellors, the session will explore the factors involved in how parents and carers can foster resilience, enhance independence and allow controlled adversity for growth in children.

There will be some practical tips on how to equip children to handle setbacks, promote problem-solving, use assertive communication, and practise self-care. Our team will also cover skills on how to nurture emotional growth in children, sharing practical tools and strategies with you.

I hope to see a strong turnout of our Redlands families once again.

da Vinci Decathlon Reflection

Last week, eight students from Yr 5 and eight from Yr 6 went to Knox Grammar to compete in the annual da Vinci Decathlon. The da Vinci Decathlon is a series of ten academic challenges, and teams of eight from Yrs 5 and 6 compete against more than 120 schools from across NSW. There is a different theme each year and every paper is based around that theme. The theme this year was Unity.

In session one, we completed Cartography, English, Ideation and Science. After a break we started session two, which included Art and Poetry, Engineering, Maths and Code Breaking. In the final session, we answered the Legacy questions as a whole team. In addition, some students competed in the Creative Producers Challenge to create and perform a one-minute act.

I enjoyed the whole experience! We got to go to another school for the day and compete in areas that test your knowledge. I loved being able to collaborate with my team and enjoyed how we all worked together to get through the day. Overall, I loved being able to test myself in some of the subjects like Science, English and Maths. It was an awesome experience, and I wish the best for teams competing at the decathlon in the future.

Ziggy Staley-Lobo – Ninja World Championships

Congratulations to Ziggy Staley-Lobo (Yr 4) and his brother Hendrix (Yr 2) who have just finished competing for Australia in the Ninja World Championships in Orlando, Florida.

National selection in anything is remarkable but to do so at such a young age adds to this achievement. The boys have trained extensively in the lead up to the event and competed extremely well and we are proud of their success.

We look forward to acknowledging Ziggy in our assembly next week.

100 Days of Kindergarten!!

A message from the Kindy team:

On Monday, Kindergarten celebrated 100 Days of School. The celebration holds immense significance as it marks a pivotal point in a child’s early learning journey. During this milestone, Kindergarten reflected on their progress and accomplishments, celebrating the myriad of experiences that have shaped their growth and development.

The activities conducted during the celebration revolved around the number “100”, which served as a learning tool. Children engaged in creative and hands-on activities that involved counting to 100, creating collections of 100 objects and building towers using 100 items.

Beyond the academic aspect, the 100 Days of Kindergarten celebration also provides an opportunity to reflect on personal achievements and social-emotional growth. Children looked back on their journey, recognising their accomplishments and took pride in how far they’ve come. This reflective practice fostered a sense of self-worth, bolstered confidence and nurtures a positive attitude towards learning.

It was wonderful to listen to our students’ thoughts and feelings toward this celebration and what it means to them.

“100 Days of Kindergarten was a special day for me because we got to do a lot of exciting things! At the start of the year, I could not do a cartwheel but now I can.” (Andrew Wu, KB).

“It’s about celebrating how many days you’ve had in Kindy” (Ronan, KW)

“The 100 Days of Kindergarten was special to me because I really like school, I learn a lot. My favourite part of the day was making my crown because I got to put big gems on it!” (Anna Oliveira, KR)

“On the 100 days of Kindergarten I liked making the 100 day crowns” (Edgar, KY)

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Redlands House and Preparatory School staff and students look forward to warmly welcoming our grandparents and special friends on Friday 25 August. Just like our Mother’s and Father’s Day events, our students will enjoy having grandparents in their rooms for fun activities. Not all students will have a special visitor on the day, therefore activities have been designed to be inclusive of all students and I know from experience, any grandparent will always include many in their circle of fun!

If a grandparent requires mobility or language assistance, a parent is more than welcome to come and help throughout the morning. Special friends are welcome in the absence of a grandparent, and we would encourage those special friends to be people who have a close connection to the child.

Jeans for Genes Day Tomorrow

A reminder that tomorrow Redlands will be supporting Jeans for Genes Day. All staff and students are encouraged to wear a ‘touch of denim’ and bring $2 to purchase a cupcake at recess. All proceeds will be going to the Children’s Medical Research Institute to raise awareness of the daily challenges faced by those living with a genetic condition and to raise money to fund projects that make a tangible difference to the lives of those affected by genetic conditions.

If your child doesn’t want to purchase a cupcake, a gold coin donation is appreciated.

A big thank you to all our Prep parents who are busily baking in readiness for tomorrow.

Term 3 Parent Workshop

A Flight Plan to Resilience

Our insightful counsellors have worked their magic again this term to put together a parent seminar with resilience being the focus. Join us in the Arnold Library on August 22 to hear about key strategies on how to walk alongside your child to build their resilience. Please register for your place.

This seminar will also provide parents with an opportunity to meet the new member of the counselling team, Ms Leah Ballin.

Medication at School

A gentle reminder to families that any medication that has been prescribed to students MUST be handed to the school nurse only. Please do not hand any medication to class teachers or to Prep Reception to administer during the day.

Can I also strongly encourage all families to update medical information for their students via Pulse please. Thank you in advance for taking the time to do this as it helps all of us when students may be unwell.

Prep Students Inspired by the Women’s World Cup!

A message from Jacqui Longworth, PE/PDH specialist

Our students have been diving into the thrilling world of soccer, drawing inspiration from the Women’s World Cup to hone their skills and embrace the spirit of teamwork.

Throughout the term, our students have been immersed in a variety of soccer skill-building exercises. They have been busy mastering the art of dribbling, passing and trapping the ball. As they continue to improve, they will gain a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of the game. In addition to honing their individual skills, students have been taught the importance of moving into open spaces during gameplay. Understanding how to position themselves on the field is important and our students have embraced this aspect with enthusiasm and determination. Our students have also been introduced to both offensive and defensive strategies.

The highlight has been the application of the skills during exciting game situations. Our students have had the opportunity to participate in round-robin tournaments, representing different countries in games. These games have enabled the application of skills and have encouraged friendly competition and camaraderie.

Secondary Sport

In recent years there has been a lot of discussion around representative vs. non-representative sport in high schools, there are valid arguments for both approaches. Whilst some believe that making sports compulsory fosters physical fitness, teamwork and discipline, others argue that allowing student to choose their preferred activities encourages enthusiasm and better wellbeing. Compulsory sport advocates assert that physical activity is crucial for the overall development of students. Australian sporting legend Cathy Freeman has emphasised “Sport can teach valuable life skills such as perseverance, resilience and leadership, which are equally important as academic knowledge.” Participation in sports can promote a healthy lifestyle and instil discipline, a study in the Netherlands that was published in the Sydney Morning Herald found that “effects of regular participation in sport activities may improve children’s behaviour in the classroom, increasing the odds of better concentration on the academic content of these lessons.”

On the other hand, non-representative sport can support freedom of choice which leads to increased interest and passion. When students are engaging in sports they love, they are more likely to stay active throughout their lives. At Redlands we are very active in promoting both, students are required to participate in one compulsory representative sport per year (including throughout their final year of school). All Secondary School students benefit immensely from participating in sports. Beside promoting physical health, sport enhances social skills and teamwork and being part of teams teaches students valuable lessons in communication and cooperation.

Whichever students decide, a key driver for Redlands sport is to foster a sporting culture that benefits students through enhancing their physical, mental and social development setting them up for success in various aspects of their lives.

Bus Transport

As a school we pride ourselves on the way in which our students participate and train in their chosen fields, providing opportunities for all students to participate in a range of activities is something that we will continue to do. Providing transport to those activities is something that we do as a school, this is a gentle reminder that when travelling on Redlands transport the Redlands school rules are in place and students should be always upholding the values of the school:

  • Have good behaviour, safe behaviour and appropriate language at all times.
  • Follow the driver (and supervising staff) instructions at all times.
  • Obey the transport rules and regulations at all times (seat belts must be worn at all times).
  • Leave the bus how they found it (no rubbish, no mess).

Students who fail the meet the standards of the above will face school disciplinary action.

AFL

A huge congratulations to Lachlan Price-Pontifex (Yr 9) and Heidi de Saxe (Yr 9) who last week represented NSW All Schools at the Schools Sport Australia Boys & Girls 15&U AFL Championships held in Ballarat.

Lachlan was announced as the NSW Boys Co-Captain which is a huge achievement, his team went on to win 3 out of the 5 games beating ACT and TAS, they then knocked off Queensland to take out 5th place in the tournament.

Heidi’s team finished on top of Pool B, going through the groups stages undefeated, they then went down to VIC White in the semi-finals, progressing to the Bronze Medal match, in which they were victorious over South Australia to take 3rd place.

At the completion of the tournament Heidi was named in the U15 Girls All Australian Merit team which is a fantastic achievement! Congratulations to Heidi!

Football

With many of our teams travelling outside of Sydney for Round 9 it was a big day for the Redlands Football program, with some teams playing in important games in the hopes of making the semi-finals. Congratulations to the students who were named in the Team of the Week for Round 9!

We are now heading into Round 10 of the Redlands Football Season, please ensure you are checking the fixture details on Redlands Pulse or on your individual student calendar.

Hockey

On Saturday, the First XI Hockey team boarded a bus at the early hour of 6:30am, carrying pillows and wearing ugg boots, headed for Chevalier College in the Southern Highlands. Hopping off the bus, they were greeted by the Chev marching band and the festive atmosphere of the campus which helped to lift their energy levels before the match.

The girls were playing on grass. Normally they play on a turf where the ball moves smoothly and everything happens at a fast pace. Grass makes for a slower, erratic game of the ball bouncing in unexpected directions and quite a few wild sticks in the air as players try to hit the ball to their teammates. Our girls took on this challenge admirably. They were stoic in defence, making sure that as few balls as possible made it back to Megan to save (who as always was wonderful in goals). They were also determined in attack, making sure they were the first ones to the ball and working well together to score two goals – Lexie and Sahara being the final ones to touch the ball into the goal. Our girls won 2-1 and should be proud of themselves for their effort and hard work. A special mention and thanks to Ava, Sahara and Lilianna who stepped up to play for the Firsts. The team couldn’t have done it without you three!

We are heading into Round 10 this Saturday 5 August, which is the last round of the regular season for ISA Hockey. Both of our teams will then move into the semi-finals next Saturday 12 August.

Tickets are now available for the End of Season Hockey Celebration.  Our 2022 cohort set the precedent last year with full attendance at the event and we are hoping to match this again for the 2023 Season!  This event is a fantastic way for students, parents and coaches to get together and celebrate the season.

The End of Season Hockey Celebration tickets are now available! Purchase tickets now by clicking on the image below:

Netball

There was some fantastic Netball played over the weekend for our 18 teams in the Round 9 ISA competition last weekend. I managed to watch many of the Redlands teams who were hosted at Barker College and was particularly impressed with the positive support of the team mates on the sidelines cheering their team on. I witnessed some really strong Netball across the Firsts, Seconds, and Inters C & D. A rare fire alarm caused some minor disruptions for the 11.45am games but there was no emergency and a false alarm which was great news.

We had several girls step up again to play for other teams where numbers were low. This continues to make me so happy and acts like this embody the power of team sports and our shared school values of respect, responsibility and teamwork.

Our top trainers for the week for showing consistent effort, enthusiasm, drive, applied court learning and always sporting big smiles were: Liv Law, Ruby Seervai, Olivia Polok, Sabine Murray, Amelie Wichgers, Anna Moate, Heidi Charles, Maddie Lamport, Jordon Monemvasitis, Annalyse Rowe, Abby Stante, Phoebe Sun, Seren Guha, Olivia Paul, Tessa Griffith, Charlie Hoskin, Katherine Lam and Olive Ross-Sampson.

Our final Round 10 ISA fixture is this weekend, 5 August. Then some teams will move to semi- finals. I will be able to share the semi -finals schedule next week for the teams that have gone through. These games will be played at Genea Netball Centre at Sydney Olympic Park with times ranging from 8.00am-2.00pm. We have about half of our teams looking like making the semis – a super effort indeed!

On a sad note, I am aware this weekend coming may be the last fixture for some of our Year 12s.  I truly hope your Netball journey at Redlands has been a wonderful one filled with happy memories of friends, fun bus times travelling to various schools, wins, losses but mostly, I hope you smile when and you remember your coaches over the years who have inspired you and believed in you. They will remember and miss you!

Congratulations to our Year 12s below who represented Redlands this ISA season. Thank you for continuing to play Netball and support your school while you endure a busy and challenging year.  We appreciate you.

  • Maddie d’Almedia, our 2023 Netball Captain
  • Bronte Backhouse
  • Issy Treloar
  • Josephine Simpson
  • Charlotte Morrison
  • Mabel Hancock
  • Sahara Ali

Finally, in conjunction with the Australian domination of the Netball World Cup, taking place now in Capetown (yes, there is another World Cup on????right now) this weekend,  Saturday 5 August is DIAMOND DAY, a day to show your national netball pride and play with a touch of GREEN and GOLD.  I will be giving each coach a roll of green and yellow ribbon to give the girls to wear on the weekend.  Please don’t let them forget to wear it and celebrate the amazing Diamonds!!

Rugby

Last weekend we saw some nail-biting fixtures in our second hit out of the season against Scots All Saints.

Results were as follows:

  • 13’s: 22-17 Loss
  • 14’s: 24-15 Win
  • 15’s:22-10 Win
  • Opens: 24-21 Loss

Players of the week:

  • 13’s – Roman Spencley
  • 14’s – Hector Maxwell
  • 15’s – Finn O’Sullivan
  • Opens – Hugo Scott

Games this coming weekend for Round 10 of ISA.

Tennis

The end of the Winter Tennis season is drawing near, and we hope all players have enjoyed the program thus far and are ready to give it their all in the final few weeks! NSS will have their all-play finals this weekend with ISA the following week at Clarke Rd Barker College or Talus St Tennis Courts depending on the division. It is looking like almost all ISA teams will make the finals, so we wish them luck with their final round this weekend! More details for Saturday 12 August will be released when the ISA Finals draw is sent out next week.

Internal Competition and Development Squad will hold its final session this weekend at Lane Cove Tennis Club and we will host an end of season wrap-up event the following Saturday to finish up before Summer Sport Changeover. Details will be released later this week/early next week so keep an eye out for another email update! Junior Sport

Winter Sport – Rugby and Football

This week sees the final match for our Junior School Football and Rugby teams as they wrap up their Term 2 and 3 season. I have reminded students to take the time to say thank you to their coaches at the conclusion of their final match this weekend. In exciting news, we can confirm that commencing next week Rugby and Football students only will participate in the Redlands World Cup Football round robin event based on the Women’s World Cup that Australia is hosting.

Students from both codes have been divided into 10 teams and will play each other in Term 3. Teams are mixed grades and each team has been allocated a country that they are representing.  Teams were displayed at school and the students are very excited about the event. For your reference these can be viewed here: 2023 Redlands’ World Cup Team Lists

Term 3 Upcoming Dates

For Term 3 upcoming dates and key events these can be viewed by selecting this link.

Term 3 Summer Pre Season Training

Commencing Term 3 there will be a combination of both OPTIONAL and COMPULSORY pre season training for the following sports;

  • Representative Mixed Basketball (Term 1 teams plus new joiners) for students in Years 3-6
  • Representative Touch Football  (Term 1 teams plus new joiners) for students in Years 5&6
  • Representative Tennis (Term 1 teams plus new joiners) for students in Years 5&6
  • Representative Girls Basketball for students in Years 3-6

Welcome back to our returning students who played in these sports in Term 1 as we recommence our season from Round 6 through to 12 and also a special welcome and thank you to those students who signed up to play a Representative Sport in Term 4. You will be allocated to a team (Basketball and Touch) or ranked in Tennis this term in preparation for next term.

Optional Student Attendance – Pre Season Training

Those students who are playing a Representative Sport in Term 4 are encouraged to attend these optional skill sessions which will be offered on a Wednesday afternoon on site on the Junior School grounds taking place after school from 3:30pm-4:30pm.

This will allow those students who are in a Term 3 Rep or Non-Rep sport to continue with their normal Term 3 Sport with the option to join in when they get back to school. Sport uniform is fine for these sessions, no need for students to change.

After they return from their normal Wednesday sport, those students will have time to go to their classroom collect their bags and make their way to the venue if they wish to participate.

No registration is required for these sessions and parents/carers are asked to collect their child at 4:30pm sharp from either Dunnet Hall Allister St or from the Piazza inside the Junior School grounds.

Summer Pre Season sessions on a Wednesday will take place on Wednesday 13 September and Wednesday 20 September on site from 3:30pm-4:30pm.

Compulsory Student Attendance- Pre Season Grading

Those students who are playing a representative sport in Term 4 will need to attend the final training and grading session on Saturday 16 September for Basketball, Touch Football, Tennis and Girls only Basketball. This is the only opportunity to finalise teams in preparation for IPSHA for Round 1 which takes place Term 4, Week 1.

If students fail to attend this grading session on Saturday 16 September, they will be placed in the lowest team to be assessed at a later stage once the season commences in Term 4.

Timings and venues can be viewed here Compulsory Representative Training Saturday 16 September

Students may wear their sports uniform to this session as Basketball Jerseys will be loaned out to them for the upcoming season once teams are selected.

Wednesday Sport Inability to Train

If your child has an injury that prevents them from training, please send through an email to Junior Sport juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au requesting they ‘sit out’ of training for that particular session. We can then forward this to the relevant external coaching staff. Where applicable, please include when they can return to normal training, so coaches are aware of this. That way coaching staff are aware of an injury that prevents them from participating at the venue but also allows us to be aware of periods where they are medically required to ‘sit out’.

Sport Calendar

The sport calendar for Term 3 onwards is available online on Junior School Sport Page. You can also view it by selecting here; 2023 JS Sport Calendar

Representative Sport Student Absence

If students are absent on match day, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.

Please don’t hesitate to view our Sport Information page on Redlands Pulse if you have any questions pertaining to Sport.

Drama and Theatre

Yr 8 Drama Performance Evenings 2023

The Yr 8 performance night Australian Landscapes is taking place in the Drama Studio on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 August (Week 4, Term 3) at 6:30pm. This term, students have explored the work of Australian writers and performers who have contributed to Australian drama and theatre. Students have engaged in a range of dramatic forms, performance styles and theatre conventions related to Australian theatre and developed a broad understanding of our cultural heritage and the characteristics of the Australian psyche. This is their first ever performance night examination, and we are very proud of the newly learnt performance skills they have developed and demonstrated. Come and watch our Yr 8 Drama students perform extracts from fantastic plays such as Lockie Leonard, Hating Alison Ashley and Burnt, just to name a few. We look forward to seeing you there in the audience!

Yr 5 & 6 Musical Theatre

Yr 5 & 6 Musical Theatre are proud to announce that we have started rehearsals for our end of year production Matilda. The students are beyond excited to put this musical on for the school! We always start  our classes with some wonderful drama games (Zombie and Prisoners). We’ve been rehearsing all the songs for Matilda which is moving very quickly with our talented students. In no time they’ll be taking the stage of the Redlands Hall in Term 4. Don’t miss this excellent musical with an absolutely brilliant cast!

Drama and Theatre: Student of the Week – Benny Maker

Benny Maker from Yr 3 is our spotlight Junior Actor for this week. He is new to Junior Drama and in his own words “loving every minute” He is enthusiastic and always brings a positive attitude to class. He is willing to have a go at any theatrical activity and always works well with others. Benny is a wonderful addition to our acting class. He is really looking forward to the end of year showcase where he can perform the class group devised piece for his family. He is working very hard on this now. Well done Benny! Music

As Note Day arrives in your inbox this week, 450 Junior School students will be taking to the stage in Dunnet Hall to share their music with each other and a member of their family in the live audience.

Junior Music Festival 2023

Roll out the red carpet – The beloved Junior Music Festival is taking you tonight to A Night At the Movies!  Whilst this afternoon is set to be enormously fun, the students’ excitement even in the lead up to today has been palpable. Joyous singing and playing has been resounding in Music lessons for months now!

Our Junior Music Teachers and Specialist Music Tutors, capably led in this production by Mrs Katherine Moses, (Subject Coordinator – Junior School Music), are incredible at what they do. They enrich the lives of our students by skilfully infusing complex curricular understandings and aural skill foundations within the music curriculum of the past term! (Like a parent hiding broccoli in a hastily devoured pizza!)   Our Music team are experts at what they do and I’m privileged to see them work their magic year-in, year-out.

‘Thank yous’ are also extended to Mr Guha and our Year 3-6 class teachers who have rallied in generous support of this event also. Today’s event has been a team effort of epic proportions and a testament to the dedication of our Redlands community.

A video is being produced of the event and we look forward to sharing this with families in due course.
