Year 9
Arnhem Land Reflections
On Tuesday evening, Yr 9 students presented their Arnhem Land Camp experiences to the Redlands community and representatives from Culture College. Via narration, song, dance and movement, the students reflected on the connection and depth of their immersion on country in Arnhem Land. David Abineno recounted his interaction with Indigenous elders, sitting and listening to them, sharing stories and connecting over Galpul making. Lachlan Howes shared the connection he made with the powerful female Yolngu artists, where they so specially shared their craft with him while painting. Other students showcased their whole group ‘Give Back’ performance, crafting the ancient stories of the Macassans and Yolngu relationship, the Midawarr season and connection to country via women’s and men’s business. It was a wonderful display of the students’ new knowledge and experiences, and a chance for parents to share in Redland’s vision for profound Indigenous education and engagement.
Secondary School Athletics Carnival
The Secondary School Athletics Carnival took place on Thursday at Sydney Olympic Park, involving many Yr 9 students. The level of participation was remarkable, and the enthusiasm shown by the students representing their Houses was exceptional. It was delightful to witness the excitement among the students as they took part in various events throughout the day, and their camaraderie towards their peers was heart-warming.
As the saying goes, “The five S’s of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit.”
Remember to always give your best effort, even when faced with unfavourable odds.
