Year 9

Wellbeing Wednesday

A job well done to all students for making the most of this Wellbeing Wednesday opportunity by engaging in remote social activities, including: a year group walk, Riddle Me This challenge, Action for Happiness activity, Master Chef challenge, Photo Scavenger Hunt, Mindful or Mind full? activity and Team Time!

Below is a sample of the activities Yr 9 engaged in throughout the day and a few photos submitted by students to capture the essence of a day for mindfulness, away from screens and outdoors.

  • Making smoothie, pie and granola fruit bowls
  • Walking to Balmoral, walking to Manly, walking to shops or walking around the block
  • Finding photos of clouds, trees, animals, jumping poses and memes

A special mention goes out to Alfie Leach and Julius Keller who contributed a major effort to keeping the ocean clean by pulling in rubbish while surfing and being spotted in action by a Redlands teacher, Ms Louise Oswald. These selfless actions done when we think nobody is watching is what truly defines character.

Great effort to the following teams who contributed the most photo submissions for the day’s activities.

Team 20: Aaron Beder, Marcus Cooper-Hor, Will Howard, Jack Petering, Conor Peterson, Mitchell Travers-Wolf,

Team 10: Will Algar, James Ashby, Jack Keogh, Jay Sefton, James Stuart, Isaac Swann,

Team 23: James Bardwell, Ethan Beggs, Otis Cooper, Henry Moate, Christo Shacklock, Abhi Singh,  Chris Szeto

Team 17: Jasmine Black, Olivia Everingham, Lara Farrell, Lauren Hill, Eva Osborn, Celine Patel, Ashley Stapleton

Yr 9 Mullets for Mental Health  – We are ALL EARS for Mental Health

Black Dog Institute’s Mullets for Mental Health.

1 in 5 of us will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year. In Australia that’s around 5 million people. And roughly 60% of these people won’t seek help. For the month of September we will be sporting mullets and raising funds to show support for mental health research.  Please donate and support our mullets and empower everyone in Australia to look after their mental health.

How can you get involved?

Wear YELLOW on Thursday for R U OK? Day

Remote Tutor Trivia

During Weeks 4 to 7, Yr 9 engaged in various rounds of trivia.  First students completed a trivia for fun within their Tutor Group. Then in Week 6, students competed against the other Tutor Group in their House and finally students competed school-wide within their houses. Thank you to the Tutors and the Heads of House for organising and running these rounds of trivia.

Congratulations to Week 6 and Week 7 winners Ava Taylor and Chloe Jennings and the Roseby White Tutor Group!
