Year 9

Welcome Back for Term 3

I do hope that students and families enjoyed the Winter break and are feeling refreshed and re-energised. The school was a buzz on Tuesday morning with stories of holiday travels and experiences. It was delightful to see our students so animated and ready to continue their Yr 9 studies. I was fortunate to catch up with many Redlands students during the Interschools week at Thredbo in the school holidays. Students were blessed with wonderful conditions and good cover for Redlands Cup and Interschools. Congratulations to our Snowsports athletes for their keen participation during the competitions.

New Students and Families

We would like to welcome Tatiana Cunningham and Reece Taylor who have joined our Yr 9 cohort. In addition we would like to welcome back Lucy Roberts from Singapore who is now at High Country Campus for Winter School. I am sure Tatiana, Reece and Lucy will transition quickly and I know that our community will make these students and their families feel very welcome.

Paul Dillon

As per Mr Corcoran’s recent letter sent to parents during the holiday break, we are fortunate to have Brett Lee present to students and parents next Monday evening. Brett is a Cyber Safety expert and the focus of his discussion will be digital compliance and internet safety. He is an incredibly engaging speaker and provides powerful information in a way that will bring to life possible online dangers and responsibilities which are part of your child’s digital world. Strategies regarding protection and prevention will empower parents to help reduce online risks within the home with very simple adjustments. Areas that will be covered are social networking, the law online, identity protection and cyber bullying, as well as the key role parents play in keeping young people safe online. Details are: Monday 30 July in Redlands Hall at 6-7.30pm. Please note that this is a free event and no sign up is required.

Jeans for Genes Day

On Friday 3 August Redlands will be participating in Jeans for Genes Day to fundraise and to raise awareness for this worthwhile cause. Jeans for Genes Day seeks to raise funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Their focus is to find out more about genetic illnesses in young people. Students will be asked to donate a gold coin donation during Tutor Time for being allowed to wear jeans to school on the day.

We warmly congratulate Piper Allen, Ela Yohannan, Jun Zhang, Max Miklis who will be our Yr 9 Student Representative for Semester 2. These students were inducted at our beginning of term Assembly on Tuesday morning.
