Year 9

Photo Day Tomorrow

Please ensure your son/daughter brings their full summer uniform with blazer tomorrow for photo day.  If students have their Student ID card, they are also asked to bring it along.

Clothing Drive Update

Thank you to all students still volunteering their time before school, at lunch and during Tutor to sort clothing into appropriate categories for the Salvation Army collection.

International Women’s Day

Next week, Redlands is recognising and celebrating International Women’s Day with the theme Choose to Challenge. While the entire Year Group has been stepping up and looking out for one another by the small actions they choose to do every day to challenge inequality, four students, in particular, started quite a conversation last year with their Sexism Survey in Yr 8 and ongoing presentations and discussion questions shared through Tutor across our Year Group.

Yr 9 students have truly started challenging inappropriate comments and standing up for one another. Students are speaking up more often and holding one another accountable when inappropriate comments are made. This is a true demonstration of showing moral courage which can be quite difficult at this age or any age.

A special thank you goes to Ahnu Guan, Sholto Mirrlees-Black, Chari Waterland and Annie Zhang for their ongoing efforts in leading this discussion and also for their additional time these last few weeks preparing for further support during next week’s celebrations.

Bus Etiquette

This is a timely reminder, as we are still at the beginning of a new school year, that students are all asked to ensure they follow the guidelines below when using public transportation to and from school. Thank you in advance for reinforcing this at home with your sons and daughters as well.

  • Proper school uniform
  • Student Opal Card
  • Face mask
  • Offer space and seat to non-students riding the bus with them, especially older members of the public
  • Use appropriate language and act in an appropriate manner when riding public transportation

Maths Club

The Maths Club kicked off on Tuesday with enthusiastic participation among students from Yrs 7 to 12. This new community, led by Yr 11 student Jessica Wei, aims to encourage and enhance logical thinking and problem-solving skills in a vibrant, collegial atmosphere. A wide range of Club activities, planned by Jessica and supported by the Mathematics Department, include puzzles, challenges, graphic art competitions, fascinating Maths paradoxes and theories, visits from guest speakers and various service activities. All students are warmly invited to come and explore their passion for Mathematics and be part of the weekly meetings in LH3.3 at 3.30pm Tuesday.

Rowing and Sailing

This past weekend, several students in Yr 9 took part in a Sailing and Rowing Regatta. It sounded like an intense weekend with many celebrations and fun memories together as a team. Specific details will be included in the Sports Page in Redlands Pulse and Note Day.

A special mention goes out to Alissandra Braden who was selected to join the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron Gold team with a mix of students from other schools.

Congratulations to all students who competed this weekend!
