Year 9

Yr 9 Yearly Examinations

It has been insightful to see the amount of positivity our Yr 9s have shown this week as they undertake their Yearly Exams. Ms Eleanor Martin and I have reminded students at the start of each day that they just need to do the best they can along with emphasising the importance of sleep and mindfulness during exam time.

Over the next fortnight, Yr 9 will receive their Yearly Examination marks back. There will be many highs and lows when exams are returned, but please remind your child that exams give them the opportunity to improve through receiving constructive feedback from teachers. This summary sheet from the Study Skills Handbook is a great tool for Yr 9 to use as it gives students the opportunity to look at exam feedback questions which they can use to communicate with their teachers, along with questions that they can use to evaluate their exam writing skills and areas of concern.

Burn Bright

Next Wednesday 11 November, Yr 9 students will be attending an incursion with Burn Bright, which is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers meaningful and dynamic student leadership and wellbeing programs Australia-wide. Girls will attend the Spark program while boys attend the Ignite program, before joining together as a whole Year Group in the afternoon.

This day forms a core part of the Yr 9 Pastoral Program, with students enjoying a range of sessions focused around issues such as identity and self-worth, personal values, self-expression and resilience.

Students are permitted to wear sports uniform on the day and must bring their own pen for use during the sessions. They will break for normal recess and lunchtimes at school.

Yr 9 Music Soiree

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Yr 9 Elective Music Soiree. All the musical items were impressive, showcasing a range of vocal and instrumental talent. It was inspiring to see many of our Yr 9s move beyond their comfort zones to perform their musical items. Ms Martin and I were moved by the amount of talent in Yr 9 and all participants should be very proud of their performances.
