Year 8
Examinations Wk 4
Students can access the Yr 8 Examination schedule via iLearn Pastoral Yr 8 Page and parents can access the schedule through the same iLearn page or on Redlands Pulse.
As students will be taking approximately two examinations per day and leaving for camp the next week, please ensure you communicate with SSAbsences and the Yr 8 Advisor, Alissa Ynson, if your child is sick and must miss school during the exam block.
Please see below for an outline of procedures and expectations for Yr 8 examination block next week:
- Yr 8 students will arrive each morning by 8.15am and filter into Redlands Hall via the back staircase (outside the gym).
- Students will be seated alphabetically in Redlands Hall for examination periods and study periods.
- Students are expected to have with them each day: a fully charged laptop, a clear pencil case or clear plastic bag with their writing instruments (black pen, pencil, eraser, highlighter, ruler, CASIO calculator), their subject books and notebooks needed for study periods that day and their glasses or contact lenses, if needed.
- Students may bring a clear water bottle into Redlands Hall and their blazer or fleece as the temperature may vary throughout the day.
- Students should have a completed, handwritten, A4 single-sided Summary Sheet for the Mathematics examination.
- Sport schedule remains as usual.
Students will have breaks at Tutor, Recess and Lunch throughout the day to help with movement and mindfulness throughout the week.
Camp
Please ensure updated medical information has been placed in Engage and sent through to David Gregory, if requested. Students will receive their Camp Briefing on Wednesday Wk 4 during Tutor. Further information regarding camp will be sent out next week as a final reminder.
Yr 8 Musical Soiree
Congratulations to all students who performed in the Yr 8 Musical Soiree on Monday night. This was their first practical performance and it was an absolute treat to be able to watch these students perform and share their talents, including singing, piano, percussion and various musical instruments. Their talents went beyond the stage as students were responsible for the lighting, stage production and commentating throughout the evening. Well done to all students involved in this production.

Sexism Presentation and Discussion
In recent months, students have become more interested in learning about sexism and how we can work to identify sexist communication, behaviours and comments while learning how to manage it with peers and teachers, in and out of the classroom and as a member of the Redlands community. This interest began with two students presenting their thoughts and concerns as representatives of the cohort. Over the last several weeks, there have been several students sharing their opinions and contributing to the conversation. An anonymous survey was sent around to all Yr 8 students to help gauge student understanding of sexism and their experience with it.
Today, Ahnu Guan, Sholto-Mirrlees-Black, Charli Waterland and Annie Zhang presented an informational and inspirational presentation to all Yr 8 students to help define sexism, share results of the survey and to teach and empower students to speak up and when they do, what can be said. This presentation is the start to many discussions this cohort will have over the years, beginning with a circle discussion on various scenarios tomorrow in Tutor.
Thank you to all students who have participated in this effort. The buzz and conversations following the presentation have already been invaluable and we look forward to continuing this topic so we can ensure to include all viewpoints and support all students within this large global issue.
