Year 8

Congratulations

Congratulations to Charlotte Waterland for being awarded first place in the Junior Prose category of the Mosman Youth Awards in Literature. There were over 100 entries received from schools in Sydney metropolitan area. Charlotte is an avid writer and this is a huge accomplishment for her and her piece The Boy Who Couldn’t Whisper.

Sport

Well done to all Yr 8 sport teams for a strong and spirited Winter season amidst the modified training schedules and COVID requirements.  Students and parents are encouraged to check the Sport page in Redlands Pulse for Summer season Sport training schedules.

Attendance

When sending a note through regarding attendance, please include a reason and specific information, whenever possible. This supports us in following up with students, parents and teachers appropriately. Sample reasons may include physical issues, mental or emotional concerns and/or COVID testing.

The Power of Collaborative Learning

With a longer lunch for Yr 8 at the moment and the Study Centre hours available to students, we are seeing an increase of students in younger years taking advantage of this study time and the additional teacher support. At this age, students are starting to realise the importance of early preparation and the power of team and collaborative learning.  Please see below for what Dr Pure Salter recommends and highlights on this topic.

Learning with other students can be a very powerful way to improve your learning outcomes. You might be sitting next to each other discussing what you are learning, or working together in a group online and sharing your screens, or giving a friend feedback about an assignment. There are many benefits to learning to work with other students. Study Skills handbook: (UN: redlands | PW: 68results)
