Year 8
This Week
This Friday is Jeans for Genes Day, which means students get to wear all things denim to school – all for a good cause – as long as they pay for the privilege (gold coin donation). All the money raised funds the vital work being done in the labs at Children’s Medical Research Institute. As with all mufti days, there are expectations of appropriate dress which are outlined in the Student Planner.
Congratulations to McDouall Blue for winning the Tutor Prize for our first Tutor Challenge this term identifying correct word puzzles, working together as a team and pulling on one another’s prior knowledge and experience.
We wish Grace Durrant the best this week as she competes in the NSW State Championships for Surfing in Coffs Harbor. Good luck Grace!
Thank you to all students, parents and staff who participated in the Yr 8 Parent Teacher Night. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to hear direct feedback from their teachers in order to acknowledge areas in need of improvement and to celebrate personal growth.
Athletics Carnival
The Athletics Carnival has been rescheduled for next Friday 14 August, with a limited number of students and staff. All communication regarding this event will come through the Sports Department.
Health Reminders for Teens: Is it ok to drink coffee and energy beverages?
Recently, we have noticed an increase in the consumption of coffee and energy drinks in the Yr 8 Group. This topic will be addressed in our Year Meeting this Friday with other general health reminders for this age. The health risks change after the age of 17. However, at this age, as students are still developing mentally and physically, limiting these items at home and at school is imperative to supporting their focus throughout the day and their growth. Please see this article provided by HCF, Is Caffeine Safe for Teenagers?.
