Year 8

Pastoral Care

For the remainder of this term, the focus of Tutor Time will be based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. Being a teenager is both a wonderful and challenging period where tough issues and life-changing decisions have to be made, and that’s where the seven habits of highly effective teenagers come into play. Throughout the term, students will be discussing how they can become more independent and effective by following seven basic habits. The habits range from being proactive in every aspect of one’s life, to planning and prioritising one’s daily life and responsibilities.

Next week begins our celebrations of Heritage Week at Redlands, acknowledging the history and foundations of the School. If you are new to the school and/or aren’t aware of our interesting history, please do visit the History page on our website. A variety of events and activities are scheduled for Yr 8 students next week including our Heritage Week Assembly and the Foundation Day Service to be held in Redlands Hall for students on Friday.

Uniforms

Tutors are conducting regular uniform checks, and we have asked students to remedy any uniform problems immediately. Some boys will need their hair cut, and quite a number of girls will need their hems lowered or new skirts procured.

Student Achievements

This week saw a number of our students compete at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in the ISA Cross Country Carnival. Congratulations to the following students who made the Redlands ISA Team, and we wish them well: Lauren Smith, Louise Colin, Callie Forest, Olivia Vigneault, Evie Farrell, Ella Palmet, Elizabeth Holtheuer, Ashani Gupta, Ruby Kelly, Rex Brook, Lockie Taylor, Oliver Garrett, Max Rawlinson and Michael Natilli. Congratulations on your selection!

Gala Arts

Gala Arts is on Friday night, 1 June. This is such a wonderful celebration of diversity, talent and outstanding entertainment. We congratulate all students on their auditions, as well as performances on the evening.

Absences

Just a reminder on processes for absences and approved leave. Please email the school as soon as possible if your child is sick and unable to attend school that day. Please note that this is a dedicated absence email address only – any emails sent to this address will not be responded to. If a student is absent from school for any longer than two days, please supply a doctor’s certificate. No medical appointments should be made during school hours, including Thursday afternoon Sport. This obviously does not include medical emergencies. Requests for approved leave should be made in writing to Mr Sean Corcoran. Would you please cc me in this correspondence as well.
