Year 8
This Week
Welcome back to Term 2! It has been wonderful getting to see all of our Yr 8 students over the last few days as we begin a new term with new goals, Term 1 reflections and refining our experience with remote learning. Students have had a chance to see their friends again and check-in with their Tutors as they begin their one-on-one conversations for goal setting and reflection.
Tutor periods for the next two weeks will continue to be a casual space for students to check-in with their Tutors and peers to allow for social connections and individual support, as needed.
Upcoming Events
School photographs have arrived and will be distributed starting Week 3 when students begin returning to campus. If you missed the chance to order school photos, there is still time to place an order. More information to come Week 3.
Mark your calendars for Wednesday 5 August for the Yr 8 Parent Teacher Evening. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet all of your child’s teachers and to hear how your child is going in each subject.
Virtual Mother’s Day Classic
The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research. The aim of the Mother’s Day Classic is to deliver a fun, healthy and inspirational community event that brings the community together on Mother’s Day to support and remember those touched by breast cancer. Have fun, get active and help us raise funds online for vital breast cancer research!
The Redlands community has taken part in the Mother’s Day Classic for many years and we don’t want this year to be any different. We’re calling on students and family members, staff and alumni to sign up and support this wonderful event as it goes virtual.
We challenge participants to walk or run 4km or 8km – anytime, anywhere, in your living room, at the local park or even in your backyard – on or before Mother’s Day (Sunday 10 May) and be a part of something big. Join the Redlands MDC20 Team and show your support for our community!
How to take part:
- Register yourself or your family here: https://mdc.mothersdayclassic.com.au/register-app.php
- When prompted, Search for and join the REDLANDS MDC20 team
- Get fundraising!
Log your training by linking your fundraising page to your favourite fitness app (Fitbit or Strava), or add manual workouts. Why not join the Redlands Running Club on Strava to share you activities with the wider community?
Redlands Pink T Shirts ($20) and a limited number of pink caps ($15) are available from the Uniform Shop. Phone 9968 9850 for more details.
Parent Tip from Dr Prue Salter
Explore Dr Prue Salter’s new module Guide to Remote Home Learning on her Study Skills website. Information is included in stages. At this point, most students are in Stage D: Maintaining Your Approach. The subtopics include: Staying Focused and Motivated, Longer Term Work, Specifically for Seniors, Physical and Mental Health and Asking for Help. All of these modules allow students to work through and self-assess what they are already doing and what they might need to consider doing to maintain a strong home learning routine and a good balance of mental and physical health while learning from home.
