Y8 Science Symposium 2019

Recently, all of Yr 8 completed a Student Research Project in small groups, producing a scientific poster promoting their experiment. All posters were displayed in Redlands Hall. The best posters were judged in three different categories by Ms McGarry (Deputy Principal), Mr Corcoran (Head of Secondary School), Mr Randall (Dean of Studies) and me. Congratulations to the winners of the three categories. To top off a great symposium, Ms Durack also performed a science show with Dr Carman from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Macquarie University.

Yr 8 Pastoral Team 2019

We warmly thank Mr Michael Warrell for all of his support and guidance in his role of Acting Assistant Year Advisor in 2019. We also congratulate him on his new appointment of IB CAS Coordinator. Next year we formally welcome back Ms Abby Walker, as Assistant Year Advisor.

Lockers

Students will need to empty and clean their lockers by the end of term. To avoid a heavy bag next Tuesday, students have been advised to do so gradually over the next few days! Students will be allocated new lockers in 2020.

Parent Holiday Reading
  • eSafety Parent Guide: The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has conducted research into parent attitudes, behaviour and needs in terms of online education of children and young people. As a result, a range of findings will inform their resources and support available to schools and families. More information can be found on the eSafetyParents page.
  • Instagram Parent Guide: Instagram and headspace have created a partnership to produce a useful parent guide for Instagram. This guide aims to promote parent understanding and conversations with young people over the age of 13.
Summer Recommendations from Dr Prue Salter’s Study Skills Website

Summer provides the perfect time for students to revisit their filing system and determine where they might keep their assessments or notes from this year that they might need again for subjects next year. It might also be the time to clean out and determine a better way to organise for Yr 9 after some reflection on how this year went. How can you help at home? Additional tips can be found here. A Final Note

Thank you for a fantastic year. The Yr 7 Pastoral team wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday!

Holidays are wonderful times for students to relax and enjoy their families and friends – after all, they are sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren etc. well before they are students. For all students, holidays are also an excellent opportunity to read, exercise more and pursue their hobbies away from electronic devices. Students are encouraged to get active outside and enjoy Sydney in summer, and a well-deserved break! We look forward to welcoming you back in the new year and hearing about your holiday adventures.
