Year 8
News
- On Tuesday, students were involved in voting for their House Captains for 2020.
- During one-on-one meetings, students reviewed workload management completing a Term 3 wall planner to assist with managing home learning and assessments. Planners should be appearing in a public location at home shortly – keep your eyes peeled (or check the bottom of student’s school bags!). Students can find a printable copy of the Term Planner on the Yr 8 Pastoral iLearn Page under Study Skills. There are also a few spare copies in the Year Advisor’s office. To support students at home, more information on workload management can be found in the Study Skills Handbook (usename: redlands | password: 68results).
- Next Wednesday night is Yr 8’s Secondary School Parent Teacher Interviews. We hope that you and your child find the evening a valuable experience in assisting learning. Should subject specific questions arise, please contact Subject teachers or Subject Coordinators.
- A reminder that Friday is Jeans for Genes day. Redlands will be dressing in denim, double denim and more denim in support of this good cause. Attire must align with Redlands non-uniform day guidelines available in the Student Planner. A gold coin donation will be collected during Tutor Time.
Black Dog Institute – Future Proofing Study
Our school is taking part in a research study that aims to prevent depression and other mental health problems in young people. We are inviting all Year 8 students to participate! If your child in wanting to participate, there is still time. Students will need consent from a parent or carer to be involved.
If you are happy for them to participate then:
- Please read the study information for parents
- Register your consent here fpstudy.org.au/rkc2B
Please also see email sent on Wednesday 26 June via the Secondary School Office for more information. Those students not involved in the study will attend regular classes during Session 2 and 3.
Anonymous Posting Apps
This week I emailed parents regarding anonymous posting apps and concerns arising for the use of such applications. It appears that the use of such apps has again arisen with Saraha being replaced by apps such as Tellonym: Honest Q&A Feedback, YOLO, TextSpy etc. There are numerous concerns surrounding the use of such apps which I outlined in my email communication this week. The Pastoral team will be speaking with students at our next year meeting and linking our discussion with content covered in our Term 2 Cyber Safety Pastoral program. In addition to resources included in my email, ReachOut Parents also provides information, tips, hints and articles you may find useful. Thank you for your support as we guide our students/children in making positive choices.
