Year 8
Secondary Athletics Carnival
Well done to all students who participated in the Athletics Carnival – it was fantastic to see a large cross section of the Year Group involved in many track and field events. Particular congratulations goes to Age Champions from Yr 8: Madison Barwise (Girls U14 Runner Up), Sebastien Griffith (Boys U14 Runner Up) and Lachlan Binnekamp (Boys U14 Age Champion and Boys Junior Division Champion).
Reports and Yr 8 Parents Teacher Interviews
Yr 8 Reports will be available to parents and students shortly. Yr 8 Parent Teacher Interviews will follow soon after on Wednesday 7 August (Week 3 Term 3). These interviews will provide a great opportunity to reflect on the report and plan progress for Semester 2 with teachers. Prior to interviews, students will meet individually with Tutors to reflect on progress and set academic and personal goals. School Attendance
Long or regular absences from school can have a significant impact on a child accessing the curriculum and have long term impacts for them and the family. Missing one day of school each week adds up to 2 months’ worth of learning missed over a year! If you are worried that your child is having problems with attending school, you may find Getting to School and Staying at School: Information for Parents and Carers from NSW Health useful. Redlands also has a clear attendance policy:
- Students are required to attend each school day.
- School hours are from 8.20am to 3.30pm. Some Sport practices and Cocurricular activities may be before and after these times and are compulsory.
- Once students arrive on campus, they are not permitted to leave during the day without written permission. Students MUST report to the Secondary School Office to sign out.
- Students arriving late or leaving early for any reason must sign in or out at the Secondary School Office with an accompanying email from a parent/carer to Secondary School Absences.
- Leave during term is not condoned. Permission to take time off during the term must be sought in writing from the Head of Secondary School (via Secondary School Absences), giving at least two weeks’ notice. Each case will be judged on an individual basis before permission is granted in exceptional circumstances.
- Consecutive absence from more than one regular school day requires a supporting medical certificate.
- Lunch detentions will be issued if a child is late twice in a cycle without reasonable explanation, or the child is developing a pattern of regular lateness. If the behaviour does not change, sanctions may be escalated to a Friday afternoon detention.
Uniform
Across Yr 8, uniform has generally been looking good. We will be conducting a uniform check in Week 1 Term 3. Students will receive a lunch detention for uniform infringements. Uniform requirements can be found on pages 19-22 in the Student Planner). Winter uniform requirements are:

A Final Note
Wishing you all a happy and safe break. We hope the mid-year holidays provides a great opportunity for students to rest, relax and prepare for Term 3. We look forward to hearing about your holiday adventures when school returns on Tuesday 23 July.
