Year 8

Camp Anaphylaxis and Asthma

If your child is Anaphylactic or has Asthma (including mild), you must ensure the following:

  • Anaphylaxis: TWO Epipens must be provided by home and brought on the program.
  • Asthma: A double dose of all required medication for the participant’s asthma must be brought on the program. If Ventolin or any other type of inhaler is required TWO must be supplied on the program.

Staff will be checking that the correct dosage has been provided the morning of departure.

Camp Tips and Hints

Many students are very excited about camp next week. Others, may approach the week with some apprehension. If you notice some signs of nerves, don’t panic – nerves are a completely normal part of life and if nurtured appropriately contribute to our young people flourishing into balanced adults. Wondering how you can assist at home? Here are some quick tips & hints:

  • Keep communication casual. Unless raised by your child, don’t speak about the worries of camp. This can only polarise concerns or create worries that weren’t there. Students take their lead from adults – if we’re stressed, they’re stressed.
  • Make a list of things to pack.
  • Pack a small item of comfort such as favourite PJs, drawing pad, a book etc. NOTE: No electronics.
  • Packing small games to promote positive social interaction eg. elastics, hacky sack, Uno, snap etc.
  • Adjusting language: ‘You may feel nervous but I know that you can overcome it’.

Strategies to manage worries at camp:

  • Focusing on one day at a time
  • Keeping busy with tasks and activities
  • Playing card games with group members
  • Thinking of things that make me happy/things I’m grateful for
  • Talking to new people

Camp is a valued part of the Redlands curriculum. Our cohort had a fantastic experience at Yr 7 camp last year and we look forward to another week filled with new experiences, challenges and growth next week. I’ve included some images from Yr 7 Camp.

Study Skills – Quick Tip

Students should make a plan this term to turn off their phone during study periods at home to avoid distraction.
