Year 8
Week 6 – Say Cheese!
After a frosty and drizzly morning, the sun poked its head out and bathed the Fahl Garden in a gloriously warm glow – right in time for our Yr 8 cohort photos. Students navigated the tallest to shortest dance and then, after some quick tucking in of shirts, tightening of ties and collars, and adjustment of skirts, they were looking schmick and ready to flash their pearly whites.
It struck me that it has been a year since our Yr 7 cohort photo (obviously) but my how time has flown by. Many of our young students were significantly taller and, no doubt, they will keep shooting up. The whole photo process was navigated quickly and efficiently, leaving students with a lovely opportunity to enjoy each other’s company, relaxing in the winter sunshine in the Fahl Garden before lunch.
Reflecting on the Festival of the Fahl
Lat week, we held the annual Redlands Festival of the Fahl. As a full school event, supporting the McGrath Foundation in raising money for breast cancer awareness, it was a wonderful opportunity for Redlands to demonstrate its strong community and care for supporting good causes. The sun was out, the music was playing and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to engage in activities like Guess the Teacher from their baby photo (a photo of this YA was in there somewhere – I wonder, did anyone guess it?!), hair colouring and face painting, and purchasing tasty baked good treats, pancakes and snags from the sausage sizzle.
A huge thank you to all the staff, Yr 12 students and volunteers who helped make such a positive community event happen.
Gardening with 8R
Recently, Yr 8 Geography have been visiting the Learning Hub Roof Top Garden to explore horticulture and sustainable gardening, with some fun focus on growing vegetables. There has been mixed success in the actual growing, but students have been enjoying the opportunities to get up and out and into the fresh air!
Redlands Heritage Week
This year, we celebrate Redlands 140 Year Anniversary! As part of our Heritage Week celebration, students have been issued with a special 140 Year lapel pin for their blazers and, on Friday, everyone will be able to get a 140 Year cupcake at recess. Note, the cupcake will be freshly made (not 140-years old)!
