Issue 17 2024 Term 2 Week 6 - 06 Jun 2024

From the Principal

Last week was National Reconciliation Week which is “a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia”.

Across all sections of our School there were numerous activities and events held in recognition of National Reconciliation Week. In Redlands House, Prep School and Junior School there was a focus on learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through literature and art. In the Secondary School, First Nations art from the Redlands Art Collection was displayed in Redlands Hall, and during Tuesday’s assembly, Visual Arts teacher, Ms Godsell, spoke of the significance of these works while also sharing her experience working at Borroloola School which is located on Yanyuwa country and home to the Yanyuwa, Garrwa, Marra and Gudanji people.

Last week I had the privilege of accompanying Secondary School History teacher, Ms Riley, and 20 Redlands parents on a cultural immersion trip to Yolngu Country in Northeast Arnhem Land run by Culture College, a not for profit Aboriginal Corporation established by Redlander, Janusz Hooker, with the aim of tailoring unique educational opportunities for students, teachers and professionals to learn together with First Nations Australians through cultural immersive educational opportunities.

Since 2017 Redlands has been partnering with Culture College to provide these cultural immersion learning opportunities for our students in Yolngu country of Northeast Arnhem Land, through both weeklong trips to homeland communities and more recently, our Midawarr Program, where a whole Year Group spends a week learning and partaking in activities at the Gulkula site, home of the annual Garma Festival (Australia’s largest Indigenous gathering and a four day celebration of Yolngu life and culture). With the move of the Midawarr Program from Year 9 to Year 10 in 2025, this year we had the opportunity to invite parents to share in this special experience.

It is hard to capture the profound impact of this cultural immersion into a few words and sentences.  However, I think I can speak of all of us on this recent trip that the generosity, openness and humility of our First Nations hosts and teachers was overwhelming. We were asked to come to Yolngu country with open minds, open hearts and open souls. And we left with minds full of knowledge, hearts full of love and souls full of hope.

If National Reconciliation Week is intended to be “a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia”, then I believe those of us who were fortunate enough to spend this time on Yolngu country last week (and those students and staff who have travelled there previously) have taken a significant step on this journey.

Community Update

It has been lovely to experience the coming together of staff, students, alumni, our Board and special guests in celebration of Heritage Week in our 140th year. As a community, we value the relationships we have with each other. Our students past and present, families, staff and members of local and global communities are valued and included through a shared connection with Redlands. Foundation Day, to be celebrated tomorrow, provides us with the unique opportunity to share and connect our past with the present and future of the School.

Thanks to the donations made by our alumni, members of staff and the wider Redlands community, our Archives are fortunate to have a rich and diverse collection of material which comprehensively documents the history of the School.

Our Archives team continue to excel in passionately showcasing and sharing our School’s rich history with our community through a diverse range of activities and initiatives that include exhibits, displays, storytelling and interactive activities. Heritage Week sees the culmination of months of preparing, curating and collaborating with our community in celebration of our School

School archives are an essential and important component of the Community Engagement team’s function. The collection and preservation of our legally, intellectually, culturally and historically important records and artefacts functions as the memory vault for Redlands staff, students, families, friends and associates, past and present. Click here for more information on our Archives area.

Each year the graduating class at Redlands celebrate and acknowledge their Redlands education with a Legacy Gift. The Legacy Gift provides the cohort with a unique opportunity to thank the School for its support, encouragement and the opportunities offered while studying at Redlands. To read more on this important and noble cause, along with an update of local and global Alumni engagement, check out the Foundation section.

Redlands is a school in the Anglican tradition that seeks to give students the opportunity to understand the Christian faith in a relevant and accessible way. The Redlands Parents’ Prayer Group provides our current parent community with the opportunity to come together in prayer. The next meeting of the group will take place in the Arnold Library on the Junior Campus on Tuesday 18 June from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. All welcome.

I remain grateful for the continued guidance and support our community provides and, as ever, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Community Engagement team should you have any feedback, suggestions or questions.

It is very rewarding to see students working collaboratively and with a passion to continue this tradition which the Class of 2016 initiated.

Funds raised will be contributed to the sixth Redlands Means-tested Scholarship named after Redlander Coralie Amos OAM, Class of 1964. For all her efforts and commitment to Service, Coralie was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for Community Service in 2021.

Behind the Scenes with the RPFA: Meet your Class Parents

A wonderful group of volunteers, Class Parents are in place from Redlands House all the way up to Yr 12. Their efforts in welcoming new parents, organising teacher celebrations and facilitating class social events go a long way in maintaining the connected and engaged school community we enjoy here at Redlands.

Check back here each week to meet 2024 Class Parents and discover how you can get involved!

CP Five

Name: Rani Seckold
Role: Class parent, Redlands House Juniors Blue
Kids: Tane Bowler (Kindy) & Ostara Bowler (Redlands House)

If you could choose a Class Parent theme song what would be the title name?

Red, Red Wine by UB40!!! (We need all the support we can get when you have 30 tiny people running around, causing chaos, right?!)

Why did you decide to become a Class Parent, and what do you love most about it?

I have a son who has already gone through Redlands House, so I offered to be the Juniors class parent for my daughter to help some of the first-time Redlands parents navigate their first year with the School. I’ve seen how welcoming and friendly all the parents are, and I wanted to help build that sense of community for our Juniors’ parents. It’s also a great way for me to get to meet all these other wonderful people who I’ll be sharing the parenting school journey with!

What advice would you give to a parent or carer looking to get more involved in the School?

Getting involved is such a great way to meet other people and to get a closer insight into what our little people are experiencing. All the volunteer parents are always happy for extra help, so don’t be shy in putting your hand up – whether it’s to be class parent or to help with some of the school functions. You’ll meet lots of great people along the way.

If you could trade places with your children for a day, what would you most want to experience?

I would just love to see what they do all day – what are they learning? What do they find easy or hard? Who do they play with? How do they feel? Honestly, I’d take any intel I could get! The most I get now is “school was good” or a grunt! I just want to know that they are having a great experience.

The Week in Pictures

???? Gold Star photo goes to the ladies and gents holding down the Pink Socks for  last weekend’s soccer matches. “’l’ll take some Rosé at ten in the morning for a good cause!!”.

All these cuties cooking up a storm for good! On 1 June , 25 Redlands Prep students and their families participated in the Kids Giving Back “Cook for Good” program. Our students prepared healthy fruit kebabs and cereal boxes, decorating them with heartfelt messages while experiencing the joy of service to our community. This team of little legends prepared 90 meals, which were donated to Sydneysiders experiencing homelessness and food scarcity. Redlands Prep students embodied the compassion and generous spirit that are characteristic of the incredible Redlands community. We are excited for the next “Cook for Good” session on August 3rd. Head of Secondary School

Week 6 has Welcomed Many Visitors to the Senior Campus.

Paul Dillon delivered presentations to students across Years 10, 11 and 12 on a wide range of alcohol and drug issues on Monday and our Year 12 boys spent most of yesterday with The Man Cave team, who are a preventative mental health and emotional intelligence charity that empowers boys to become great men.

Year 12 student Dylan Keay expressed that “Everyone seemed to lean into the activities well, and even those who didn’t speak as much, seemed to be very engaged and found it greatly beneficial”.

Year 12 student Jack Stevens also spoke positively, “I thought that Man Cave was very useful and had a positive impact on the male cohort who participated. I felt it was good because it created a feeling of unity among us, as it made us feel that we are not alone and that our peers are going through similar experiences. I think it will leave a lasting impact on all of the boys, as many of us were able to be open with each other, and learn new things about people we are not necessarily close with.”

Redlands/ISA Success at the CIS Cross Country Championships!

24 Redlands students competed in the CIS Cross Country Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre and despite the muddy and tough conditions, it was fantastic to see a great effort by all students today.

Highlights from today include:

  • Isaac Brooks finished 6th in the 18 Years 8k, qualifying for the NSW All Schools.
  • Imogen Howard finished 9th in the 15 Years 4k, also qualifying for the NSW All Schools.
  • The Redlands 16 Year Girls team placed 2nd overall. The team included Imogen Howard, Amber Kusano, Genevieve Holt and Alanah Winder.
  • The Redlands 16 Year boys placed 3rd overall. The team included Otto Ross-Sampson, Charles Hargrave, Liam Riddell and Toby Healey.
  • Stella Brock (Yr 7) showed remarkable sportswomanship by sacrificing her own race to assist a Queenwood girl who had a bad fall. She walked her to the emergency tent, an act of kindness that impressed both the ISA and CIS Convenors.

Greenlands Week has been Another Significant Focus this Week

A variety of opportunities for students to engage in sustainability initiatives and endeavours have been provided to students across Year 7 to 12. Students created their own environmental pledge in Tutor Groups, reduced the School’s overall energy consumption via a dedicated ‘Lights off Wednesday’ and participated in a wide range of lunch time activities, such as a waste audit, clothes swap and Garden Club. To conclude the week, Friday will see a beeswax candle making session with one of our beekeepers. The ‘hard-to-recycle collections’ will be continued into next week, and students are encouraged to continue bringing in any of the following for the collection tubs outside ground floor of the Learning Hub:

  • Make up containers
  • Pens/markers
  • Bottle tops
  • Toothpaste/toothbrushes
  • Mobile phones

Ahead of World Ocean Day on Saturday 8 June, a group of Year 7 students attended the Youth Ocean Carnival on Wednesday this week. Students were inspired by a variety of keynote speakers who discussed how small actions can make a big impact and offered examples of how young people had used innovation to create solutions to combat the problems faced by the earth. The Youth Ocean Carnival celebrations continue into the weekend, with more opportunities for students to participate in Night at the Zoo on Saturday at Taronga Zoo. Please see the poster below for more information:

To continue the spirit of Greenlands Week, a beach cleanup will occur on Sunday 23mJune, with a group of schools from the North Sydney and Mosman council areas. Please feel free to sign up via this link.

We invite our parents and carers to also adopt a positive approach to Greenlands Week. Environment Captains, Tara and Conor, encourage Redlands families to reduce their carbon emissions. This Net Zero Guide from Zero Emissions Sydney North, outlines a variety of ways to support families to minimise their own impact on the environment.

Kids Giving Back

Feargal (Yr 7) and Ruairi Lambert (Yr 9) were part of a crew of 930 young legends who helped provide over 6,500 meals, snack packs, and care packages and wrote heartfelt messages to support 15 charities across Sydney in recent weeks.

The Kids Giving Back team reported that they showed incredible leadership, compassion in their  drive to give back to the community.

Interestingly, one of the key findings from Growing Up In Australia – The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children is that “if by age 13 a young person was involved in volunteering, the odds of having ‘clinical levels’ of emotional symptoms two years later were reduced by approximately 28%, underscoring the profound impact that volunteering can have on young people’s emotional well-being.

The Kids Giving Back Organisation offers many valuable service programs for young people.

Year 10 Spanish Junior School Visit

On Monday, our Year 10 Spanish group visited a Year 6 Spanish class at the Junior School. It was a remarkable experience where we broke off in pairs to teach small groups about time and subjects, all of which are relevant for when they step into Year 7. The experience of teaching them some Spanish was very interesting. It provided us with an interesting insight into how teaching and learning simultaneously may be mutually beneficial for students like ourselves. Seeing the high proficiency of the Year 6 Spanish learners was both surprising and very impressive regarding their age level of course. This amazing opportunity allowed us to discover how children learn, especially from a teacher’s perspective, which seems quite challenging.

Year 12 Teaching Year 7 Chinese for Charity Event

Eva Osborn

Our Year 12 Chinese class all decided to sign up to teach the Year 7 class as we thought it would be a fun experience and a good way to step into Ms Xue’s shoes. In our lesson, we went over basic family members, teaching them how to say things like mum, dad, younger brother, grandma, etc. However, my favourite part of the lesson was when we were divided into groups and the Year 7 students competed to guess which family member on the slide presentation was related to which Year 12. Everyone became a little competitive, and although my group didn’t win, we certainly had the most spirit! The class was so enthusiastic and full of energy that we all had the best time! Through this experience, I learned not only how far we have come with our Chinese since Year 7, but also the energy and effort it takes to run an engaging and informative lesson. If you are given the opportunity, I would definitely recommend teaching a younger class!

Jack Keogh

When I heard part of the Festival in the Fahl fundraiser included the chance for groups of Year 12s to ‘buy’ younger classes for a period, I was surprised it hadn’t been done before as it is such a good idea to raise money, create links between Year Groups and have fun. Our whole Year 12 Chinese class (all 12 of us) decided to take Ms Xue’s Year 7 Chinese class for a period, a class many of us were in back in 2019. The surprise of the Year 7’s as they walked into a class full of Year 12 students (only Year 12 and teachers knew it was happening) quickly led to fierce (and loud) competition as they showed off their Chinese knowledge of stationery, family and guessing the Year 12’s family member photo for points and lollies. Planning and running just a single period definitely gave us an appreciation of how hard it is for Ms Xue and all teachers to keep learning on track for a whole year but overall the junior and senior students were all laughing together and it was a great Monday Period 1 to start the week.

Year 12 Legacy Gift: Our Gift, Our Legacy

It has been an exciting journey with the Year 12 Legacy Gift team working through ideas, concepts and fundraising initiatives. This year’s student-led initiative is focusing on the importance of ‘Giving Back’ to the School. It is wonderful to see students working collaboratively and with a passion to continue this tradition which was started by the Class of 2016.

This year, funds raised will be contributed to the sixth Redlands Means-tested Scholarship named after Redlander Coralie Amos OAM, Class of 1964. For all her efforts and commitment to Service, Coralie was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for Community Service in 2021.

Please join Year 12 in their efforts!

Students are inviting the entire Redlands community to support them in their fundraising efforts. Foundation Day Service

This week, Yr 12 will join Yr 6 students in the Foundation Day Assembly to celebrate Redlands 140th Year.

Thank you for the following students for their involvement in the service tomorrow: Isaac Swann, Tom Reeves, River Stefanovic, Emma Noes, Tahlia Daily, Hannah Jones-Way, Summer-Eve Smyth, Ava Taylor, Chloe Moore, Max Keith, Tom Jackson, Jasmine Black, Isaac Brooks, Will Algar, Antonia Morgan, Hallie Hunt, Sholto Mirrlees-Black

Student Presentation: Man Cave

This week, our cohort identifying as he/him, participated in a Man Cave workshop, building on their first workshop with the program in Yr 10.

Man Cave is a group dedicated to preventative mental health and emotional intelligence to support boys in becoming great men. They exist because the leading cause of death among young men ages 15-44 is suicide. Man Cave believes these statistics are preventable as every young man should have healthy relationships, contribute to their community and should be supported to reach their full potential.

Yr 12 leaned into this opportunity and fully embraced the session. Students were challenged to practice being vulnerable, sharing with others and listening to others to support one another.

Please visit the link below with resources on how to support your son with ongoing conversations after he experiences the Man Cave.

Parent and Guardians Pre-Workshop Resources

How can I support my boy after the program?

We suggest going gently with your son after the program. It’s likely he will take a few days to make sense of and integrate the experience with us. Keep in the mind the following:

  • Ask questions, be curious but don’t push him too much
  • Give him time and space to share
  • Understand he is now shifting his relationships to his peers. Don’t take it the wrong way if he doesn’t want to share with you
  • Knowing he can talk with you about anything, without ramifications (psychological safety), will be plenty for him, for now

The HSC and IB Question and Answer

Today, we had two Year 12 High Performers, Nathan Barrie (HSC) and Daisy Thomas (IB), speak to the Year 10 Elite Athletes and Performers in a Year 12 HSC/IB Q&A session about their reasons for choosing the HSC or IB pathway. This session also provided an opportunity for Year 10 students to ask questions about the programs.

Freestyle skier Daisy, who came 2nd in the Youth Olympics for ‘Big Air,’ shared why the IB was appealing to her, highlighting the course structure and the global perspective the IB program offers. Nathan Barrie, who was just signed with the Western Sydney Wanderers, discussed the academic support he received from Lucy Benjamin and his teachers, which helped him keep up with his work despite the demands of his football and training commitments.

Year 10 students asked questions about the differences between each program, course structures, and how Daisy and Nathan managed their time effectively with their HSC and IB studies. There was also a key focus on career backups, with both Daisy and Nathan discussing their career pathways and the guidance they received from the Redlands Career Advisors Justine Fowler and Claire Hurst.

We hope this session has provided valuable insights and guidance for our Year 10 students as they consider their own academic and career pathways.

As an additional fundraiser for Festival in the Fahl, Yr 12 students were able to donate toward the cause by “purchasing a class to teach” of one of their teachers. Most students worked with their teachers to organise a lesson for Yr 7 or Yr 8 and a few Yr 12 students even ran a class debate with Yr 11 students!

Please see some reflections from Yr 12 students, Eva Osborn and Jack Keogh, from their class take over with Ms Xue.

Reflections

Jack Keogh

When I heard part of the Festival in the Fahl fundraiser included the chance for groups of Year 12’s to ‘buy’ younger classes for a period, I was surprised it hadn’t been done before as it is such a good idea to raise money, create links between year groups and have fun. Our whole Year 12 Chinese class (all 12 of us) decided to take Ms Xue’s Year 7 Chinese class for a period, a class many of us were in back in 2019. The surprise of the Year 7s as they walked into a class full of Year 12 students (only Year 12 and teachers knew it was happening) quickly led to fierce (and loud) competition as they showed off their Chinese knowledge of stationary, family and guessing the Year 12s family member photo for points and lollies. Planning and running just a single period definitely gave us an appreciation of how hard it is for Ms Xue and all teachers to keep learning on track for a whole year but overall the junior and senior students were all laughing together and it was a great Monday Period 1 to start the week.

Student Congratulations

Congratulations to Nathan Barrie for signing a three year scholarship contract with the Wanderers! This is a fantastic opportunity for Nathan and he is very excited to play as much as he can and make the most of this experience over the next three years. See an excerpt from the Wanderers article below:

The 18-year-old joined the Wanderers Academy under 18s squad two seasons ago and has worked his way up through the ranks to the Isuzu UTE A-League team.

Barrie made his A-League debut for the club during the 2023/24 season and went on to make two first team appearances for the club. More recently, the defender was called up to the Subway Young Socceroos for a domestic training camp this month.

Redlands ISA at the CIS crsChampionships

Today, 24 students represented Redlands/ISA at the CIS Cross Country Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. Despite the muddy and tough conditions, it was fantastic to see our students putting so much effort into their runs today.

Yr 12 Highlights from today include:

  • Isaac Brooks finished 6th in the 18 Years 8k, qualifying for the NSW All Schools.

Well done to all our students for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship!

Student Presentation: Paul Dillon

This week, the entire cohort engaged in a 1.5-hour session with Paul Dillon on drugs and alcohol awareness. Students received updated information about making smart decisions and avoiding drink driving, how to have a safe and celebratory 18th birthday as well as the impacts of various drugs on the human body, especially at their age. Thank you for your support from home. Please see parent resources to support in these ongoing conversations:

Jewish Museum and Synagogue Excursion

On Tuesday 4 June, Yr 9 students attended a joint Christian Studies and History excursion to the Sydney Jewish Museum and the Great Sydney Synagogue to enrich their learning about Judaism and the Holocaust.

See the below reflection from Bowen Shiao:

As a cohort, Redlands had the wonderful opportunity to learn about Judaism from the Jewish Synagogue and develop an appreciation of the touching and heartfelt stories of Holocaust survivors from the Sydney Jewish Museum. Having the privilege to experience this journey full of rich history, culture and spirituality, it has helped us to understand the vibrant culture that we aren’t often exposed to as much on a daily basis and encounter new traditions past through generations of such a strong yet fascinating community. When moving to the museum and hearing the stories of the Holocaust survivors, it made me feel an immense amount of compassion for those who shared their stories of unimaginable resilience and bravery. I was struck by their strength and determination of hope amidst the darkest times, reminding me of how fortunate we are to live in a safe country far from war, where peace and equality are commonly demonstrated. It also made me reflect on just how important it is to remember those who passed and to acknowledge individuals who all deserved so much more. Since we sometimes overlook or are unaware of the struggles of others, hearing about other people’s adventures and experiences also served as a reminder to many of us of their tremendous resilience.

Leaving the museum and synagogue, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunity to learn from the Jewish community. This visit was not just an educational trip but a meaningful journey to understanding the viewpoints and cultures of other’s experiences and backgrounds.

ISA Cross Country Carnival Results

Year 8

Week 6 – Say Cheese!

After a frosty and drizzly morning, the sun poked its head out and bathed the Fahl Garden in a gloriously warm glow – right in time for our Yr 8 cohort photos. Students navigated the tallest to shortest dance and then, after some quick tucking in of shirts, tightening of ties and collars, and adjustment of skirts, they were looking schmick and ready to flash their pearly whites.

It struck me that it has been a year since our Yr 7 cohort photo (obviously) but my how time has flown by. Many of our young students were significantly taller and, no doubt, they will keep shooting up. The whole photo process was navigated quickly and efficiently, leaving students with a lovely opportunity to enjoy each other’s company, relaxing in the winter sunshine in the Fahl Garden before lunch.

Reflecting on the Festival of the Fahl

Lat week, we held the annual Redlands Festival of the Fahl. As a full school event, supporting the McGrath Foundation in raising money for breast cancer awareness, it was a wonderful opportunity for Redlands to demonstrate its strong community and care for supporting good causes. The sun was out, the music was playing and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to engage in activities like Guess the Teacher from their baby photo (a photo of this YA was in there somewhere – I wonder, did anyone guess it?!), hair colouring and face painting, and purchasing tasty baked good treats, pancakes and snags from the sausage sizzle.

A huge thank you to all the staff, Yr 12 students and volunteers who helped make such a positive community event happen.

Gardening with 8R

Recently, Yr 8 Geography have been visiting the Learning Hub Roof Top Garden to explore horticulture and sustainable gardening, with some fun focus on growing vegetables. There has been mixed success in the actual growing, but students have been enjoying the opportunities to get up and out and into the fresh air!

Redlands Heritage Week

This year, we celebrate Redlands 140 Year Anniversary! As part of our Heritage Week celebration, students have been issued with a special 140 Year lapel pin for their blazers and, on Friday, everyone will be able to get a 140 Year cupcake at recess. Note, the cupcake will be freshly made (not 140-years old)!

Term 2 Key Dates and Upcoming Events

Year 7

Heritage Week Assembly

What an incredible 140th Heritage Week Assembly. All our of Yr 7 speakers and assistants did an incredible job with organising and presenting information about our 140th Birthday. It is not an easy task, speaking in front of our peers so we want to tell Yr 7s how proud we are of this great achievement. Ms Gillezeau, our wonderful Archivist was blown away with the preparation and delivery of this assembly and said ‘The bar has really been lifted to new heights. Maybe it will start a trend.’

Festival in the Fahl

Thank you to our Yr 12 Service Captains and our wonderful teachers and staff for an incredible effort leading and running the Festival on the Fahl last week. Yr 7 students were commended on their engagement and enthusiasm towards this event and we all raised a huge amount of money for the McGrath Foundation.

Pink Sock Day

Team sports are important for our children because they help them develop valuable skills and habits. Playing on a team teaches children how to work well with others, communicate effectively, and be responsible. It also gives them a sense of belonging and helps them make friends. Through regular practice and games, kids learn the importance of discipline and time management. Additionally, team sports provide a healthy way for children to stay active and use their energy positively. Overall, team sports support kids in growing physically, emotionally, and socially.

Well done to everyone who braved the elements on Saturday for our annual Pink Sock Day sporting matches.

Ocean Festival

Thank you to Jenna Forrest, Matt Sinpraseuth, Charlie Benfield, Evelyn Maurice, Samantha Halliday, Feargal Lambert, Millicent Kroon, Marcus Melvin, Will Beeston, Niamh McDonald, Xavier Le Page, Alice Bernath, Yolanda Bai, Elias Buggy Axton, Scarlett Kohn, Josephine Perry, Alexander Read and Ethan Wei who all attended the Ocean Festival with Ms Chipper and myself on Wednesday 5 June.

Wow! What an incredible opportunity for Yr 7 students. I was lucky enough to spend the day at the Ocean Youth Summit at Luna Park with 18 enthusiastic and engaged change makers from our cohort learning all about the importance of our ocean and what we can do to protect it. There was so much incredible information to take away but while we take some time to process what we learned, here are my three take-aways from the day!

  1. It’s not possible to change the whole world but it is possible to change OUR world. We can take small steps to improve our individual environment.
  2. Today’s society is hectic. It’s often difficult to focus on the present as we are so busy thinking about everything else. It is so important for all of us to take a moment to ground ourselves. We were all encouraged to take the mindfulness challenge:
  • 30 seconds focusing on sight
  • 30 seconds on hearing (eyes closed)
  • 30 seconds on touch (eyes closed)
Try this at home and see if it narrows our focus.

     3. Appreciation not expectation! Practising gratitude on regular basis will make us all happier and more content. Here are some suggested questions to promote gratitude:

  1. What abilities do I have that I’m grateful for?
  2. What made me laugh or smile recently?
  3. Who do I appreciate? Why?
  4. What is something fun I get to do later?
  5. What’s something I’ve learned recently that has improved my life?
  6. What happened today/this week/this month/this year for which I’m grateful?
  7. What activities (hobbies, events, etc.) am I grateful for?
  8. What’s an opportunity I have that I’m thankful for?
  9. What in nature inspires me and why?
  10. What have others in my life done for me for which I’m thankful for?
  11. What is different today than it was a year ago?
  12. In what ways can I help others today or sometime soon?
  13. What’s something you’re looking forward to in the future?
  14. What’s one kind or thoughtful thing someone did for me recently?

Parent Teacher Interviews – Term 3

Some early notice that there will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s class teacher in the second week of Term 3.  The focus of the meetings will be to discuss student progress, as set out in Semester 1 reports, and to revisit learning goals for the second half of the year. The meetings will take place across the whole of that week and as such please note that the Tuesday school-based clubs will start in Week 3 of Term 3.  A booking schedule will be sent out in the last week of this term. To assist coordination and logistics for many of our families with children in the Prep School, we have scheduled the meetings for the same week as that section of the School.

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches

We are pleased to note that the vast majority of our students exhibit sensible and mature behaviour when using technology at school. That said, I respectfully remind parents that students are not permitted to use a mobile phone during school hours or other digital technologies such as smart watches to send or receive messages. Year 5 and 6 students who have a BYOD iPad should ensure that the iMessage function is turned off while at school. Our IT team will be conducting some spot checks of devices over the next few weeks and teachers will also be using the Apple Classroom App to monitor and enforce these expectations as required.

Greenlands Week Junior School

A message from Redlands Sustainability Manager, Kimberlee Chipper
This week on the Junior Campus we have been celebrating Greenlands Week with a variety of opportunities for students to engage in sustainability initiatives and endeavours. Classes have been competing for the ‘Greenest Class’ award by participating in activities to create environmental awareness (lights off lessons, smartboard free lessons, turning off the air conditioner, bringing in a waste-free lunch and learning about sustainability). Students revisited their own environmental pledge in classes and participated in a wide range of lunch time activities, such as yabby net untangling, a swap shop, and tomorrow there will be a sow and grow session.

We will continue our hard-to-recycle collections until next week, so please bring in any of the following to the collection tubs outside ground floor of the Learning Hub:
– Make up containers
– Pens/markers
– Bottle tops
– Toothpaste/toothbrushes
– Mobile phones

To continue the spirit of Greenlands Week, a beach cleanup will occur on Sunday 23 June, with a group of schools from the North Sydney and Mosman council areas.

Please feel free to sign up using this link.

Greenlands Week doesn’t just stop at our students and teachers. Our Senior Campus Environment Captains, Tara and Conor, also wanted to pass along a message to Redlands parents about how all families can reduce their own carbon emissions. Below is a Net Zero guide from Zero Emissions Sydney North, which outlines a variety of ways that families can minimise their own impact on the environment.

Redlands Heritage Week

The Prep School had a lot of fun this week celebrating 140 years of Redlands. At Prep Assembly we welcomed Marguerite Gillezeau, Redlands Archivist, to share fascinating historical photos of Redlands. The students were mesmerised as they saw what students used to wear, what sports they played and even noticing buildings that were there are still standing today. Ms Gillezeau and the One Yellow class even re-created some of the photos.

To finish off, our Prep students sang a very hearty happy birthday to Redlands and excitedly threw streamers to celebrate. The birthday fun doesn’t stop there, all students across K-12 will be given a birthday cupcake for morning tea and a lapel pin tomorrow as a birthday gift from Redlands.

Please note that each class will have gluten free cupcakes available. If you do not wish your child to be given a cupcake or your child has other food allergies, you are welcome to send a special ‘one off treat’ for your child this Friday.

Parenting Circles: Responsive Parenting and Raising Healthy Children

A message from our Junior Campus Counsellor, Silvia Roberts

In recognising that the essential condition for a healthy child’s development is the child’s relationship with nurturing adults, I have been facilitating regular Parents Circles throughout Term 2. Our final Parents Circle for Term 2 is on Wednesday 12 June. Please see the details below.

The Parents Circles draw on specific topics and are centred on providing a space for open discussions and questions. The sessions are also aimed to equip parents with a wide range of essential practical and emotional regulation skills and guide parents through the art of fulfilling their children’s needs which are the essence of healthy positive parenting.

The sessions take place in Lucy Hill Library, after school drop-off. We welcome our prep and junior school parents to attend. Please feel free to bring your own coffee or tea. As this is a parenting circle of support, numbers are limited to 20 to keep it small enough for interactive discussion so please book your space here.

The topic for Week 7 (Wednesday, 12/06/2024 8.30 am – 9.30 am) is:

Building Healthy Self-Esteem in Children

  • Negative core beliefs in children can lead to them developing depression, anxiety, co-dependency, relationship issues or addictions later in life.
  • How can parents prevent the onset of negative core beliefs?
  • Exploring a core natural attribute of children – “being valuable” and guiding parents to attend to this attribute functionally and effectively. This will help their children develop an appropriate level of self-esteem.

Supervision Starts at 8am

A reminder that Junior Campus supervision begins at 8am for students who are not attending morning activities. If your child arrives early, they will be asked to sit in the reception area and wait until 8am. Any Junior School student arriving early in the playground will also be asked to wait until 8am in the Junior School Reception. For the safety of our children, we ask for your assistance with this.

Secondary Sport

It was a fantastic day across all the Redlands venues last weekend, with players, opposition and the wider Redlands community all donning a touch of pink to support the McGrath Foundation.

A huge thank you to all of the Friends of Groups and to the parents who gave their time to bake and help on the stalls.

There are a number of photos below which showcase the amazing school spirit!

As we move to the end of the term there is a lot to prepare for, the Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday 25 June (Term 2, Week 9), there will be no sport for Thursday 27 June.

Next week the specific sports will be releasing registrations for Holidays sessions, these will be run during the final 2 weeks of the School Holidays, please ensure you register via the provided links, if there are not enough registrations sessions may not go ahead.

AFL

Firstly, congratulations to all participants in the AFL program for having a successful day supporting Pink sock round. All students supported the cause – which was important to see.

Redlands 1s had a strong win over Shore 2: 87-21.

Unfortunately, Redlands 2s had a tough game against Cranbrook 39-109.

Although the results didn’t reflect the improvement from all players, it was impressive to see a resilient attitude.

Super proud of the boys and their efforts.

Balmoral Burn

I am proud to share the outstanding efforts of our Redlands teams at the Balmoral Burn Teams Relay. Each student who competed brought incredible spirit, camaraderie, and outstanding support for one another as they took on the challenging 420m ascent up Awaba Street, all for a great cause, dedicated to raising funds for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, which supports children’s hospitals and health services across Australia. Our students’ participation today exemplifies their commitment to service and community.

Here are the results of their efforts:

Senior Boys

  • Team 1- Freddie Yates, Isaac Brooks, Hamish Campbell, Conor Petersen – 6th place (Isaac Brooks was the first up the hill and had the quickest individual run overall)
  • Team 2 – Hugo Jones, Charles Hargrave, Maxwell Perry, Cam Simpson – 8th place
  • Team 3 – Tobe Cornelius, Rory Howe, Hiro Phillips, Daniel Kopper – 10th place
  • Team 4 – Ayden Shaw, Ernie Hart, Jet Gwilliam, Harrison Meagher – 14th place

Senior Girls

  • Team 1 – Olivia Law, Amber Kusano, Immy Howard – 9th place (The team would have placed 2nd overall but were one team member down. Amber Kusano had to run back down the hill and do a second lap back up but didn’t quite make it down in time, and then had to put on another bib to run back up again!)
  • Team 2 – Amynta Field, Jemima Hugman, Annabelle Hwang, Sarah Zeppel – 10th place
  • Team 3 – Lauren Dower, Sela Tea, Piper Bradley, Clara Blackstock – 16th place

Furthermore, our Year 11 students organized a Bake Sale on Friday, raising over $500.00 to contribute to this worthy cause. The exact amount will be confirmed by accounts tomorrow, along with today’s teams total amount for the Balmoral Burn Humpty Dumpty Fundraiser.

Thank you to all the students for their dedication and to all the parents who came out to support this event, and to Ms Jessica Carroll and Erika Yamamoto for all their assistance.

All photos from Friday’s Bake Sale can be accessed here.

Cross Country

It was a great day out at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre yesterday for the ISA Cross Country Carnival. There were a number of fantastic individual results with some highlights from the carnival including:

  • Liv Law (Yr 8) winning the U14 Girls
  • Immi Howard (Yr 10) winning the U16 Girls
  • Isaac Brooks (Yr 12) winning the 18 Boys
  • Redlands Intermediate Girls (U15 & U16) also won the Intermediate Girls Division

There will be a full breakdown of results available in next week’s Note Day.

Today, 24 students represented Redlands/ISA at the CIS XC Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. Despite the muddy and tough conditions, it was fantastic to see our students putting so much effort into their runs today.

Highlights from today include:

  • Isaac Brooks finished 6th in the 18 Years 8k, qualifying for the NSW All Schools.
  • Immy Howard finished 9th in the 15 Years 4k, also qualifying for the NSW All Schools.
  • The Redlands 16-year-old girls team came 2nd overall. The team included Immi Howard (9th), Amber Kusano (21st), Genevieve Holt (30th), and Alanah Winder (43rd).
  • Stella Brock (Year 7) showed remarkable sportsmanship by sacrificing her own race to assist a Queenwood girl who had a bad fall. She walked her to the emergency tent, an act of kindness that impressed both the ISA and CIS Convenors.
  • 3rd in the 16 Years Boys Team Event: Otto Ross-Sampson, Charles Hargrave, Liam Riddell, Toby Healey

Well done to all our students for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship!

Football

The Pink Sock Round 5 was full of action and wet weather at the home of Redlands Football Macquarie University. We are so grateful the school has provided great facilities for our football players to play in all conditions.

The rain didn’t stop the fun and enjoyment for the kids to play Football.  A big thanks to the Friends of Football/Rugby and AFL who combined to run Pink Sock Day and raising money for “Cancer”.

In the Girls program, most of the games were played in the rain and some had to be abandoned because of the rain but we did well to secure 3 wins and 1 loss on the day.

In the Boys program we also had games played in the rain and we managed to play and finish most of the game’s and they were highly competitive matches.

Overall, a great effort by all the Redlands Teams after 5 rounds and our aim is to keep improving the players and get as many teams as possible playing finals football.

A reminder that there are no games this long weekend and we will be back to training Tuesday 11 June 2024.

Congratulations to the ISA team Arkie Riches and Jasmine Black participating in the CIS Tournament and to our ISA Captain Jasmine Black selected as the CIS Team.

Hockey

Pink Sock Day was a great success for our Hockey community. Our 1st Girls were up against Barker for the first game of the day, and they came out with a point to prove. Coming off the back of a good win against SACS, the team was excited for a grudge match against Barker. Even with a few late withdrawals due to sickness, our 1st Girls came out firing from the early stages of the game and finished with a 4-2 win. The 2nd Girls were up next against Blue Mountains and had mixed feelings about this game. The team had a great offensive effort and scored 2 early goals. Blue Mountains counter attack was strong and fought back to make it 2-2.

3rd Girls also came up against a Blue Mountains side and ended up drawing 1-1. The girls had a mixed game although coach Lucy was encouraged to see the girls working on a few things from training. Wishing everyone a relaxing long weekend and we’ll see everyone at training on Tuesday 11th June.

Huge thanks to Friends of Hockey and all players for making the Pink Sock Round a huge success!

Also, huge congratulations to Jess Van Extel, Megan Kirkpatrick and Amelia Roy making the ISA team and Jess getting selected for CIS.

Let’s go Redlands!

Netball

Last Saturday saw many colourful students with pink socks and ribbons play some great netball.  It was so good to see the girls get behind our Redlands Charity round.

Our Pink Sock Day & Bake stall was fantastic and created a lovely, vibrant and joyful welcome on a very cold, dreary morning. Thank you so much to our Friends of Netball team and all the parents and players who baked goods, set up our pink area, served, cleaned up and got involved. It was a great vibe and a big success and we were so lucky we were out of the rain for the morning. As always- the choice to play netball this season is a winning one ???? no rained off fixtures ever- yeh! This IS the sport that just keeps giving.

We had a total of 15 fixtures at NBISC on the weekend and we had more wins than losses which is also always a bonus. The levels of performance and effort are growing each week , it is awesome to see. We are half way through the season now. I would encourage you all to talk with your girls about keeping up their momentum, energy and commitment to trainings as we continue for another 5 rounds. A reminder this weekend is the King’s Birthday and there are no games.

The next ISA round is June 15th with most teams travelling to Chevalier College. There are 2 internal games happening next week. These teams will not play on 15th June but will play on 13th June in their training sessions. These teams are the Junior G & H ( in the Lang Gym) and Inter D & E ( in Dunnet Hall).

It would be great to see some of the teams who have internal games come and support the First VII who are playing at St Pauls Grammar if they can.

Rugby

Thank you to all for their time and goodies over the weekend for Pink Sock Round! The Rugby community contributed heavily to the success on the grounds at Mac Uni.

A reminder this weekend there are no fixtures for the long weekend, on our Rugby Pulse page, scroll down to view the draft draw for the remainder of the season with official ISA Fixtures kicking off next weekend.

Trainer of the week:

The following players should be congratulated on their efforts over the last week.

  • Jesse Forrest
  • Liam Donnelly
  • Matteo Bellini
  • Mark Rolfe
  • Otto Eden

Congratulations to our Redlands contingent who trialled this week for ISA selection in the u16’s and opens divisions. All our players represented the school with pride giving it their best shot. We eagerly await team announcements to see if any players were successful with selection.

Goodluck to all Redlands students participating in NSW Rugby Junior State Champs this coming long weekend! Be sure to get some photos and share your results.

Reminders

All students are encouraged to attend the fitness center to compliment their development within Rugby. Please read the Fitness Center pulse page for information on how to register your attendance for optional sessions.

Opens (Year 11 & 12) players will continue their compulsory session weekly as scheduled on student calendars.

Despite a few showers, we were lucky to get most of the matches played on Saturday before the rain came!

Unfortunately the matches against Central Coast Grammar were cancelled due to rain.

There were some close matches and good wins at Mosman Lawn Tennis Club.

ISA 3 won 6-2, ISA 7 won 7-1 and ISA 8 won 8-0 against St Augustine’s and ISA 11 won 5-3 against St Andrew’s Cathedral School.

ISA 9 had a great away match to win 8-0 against Oxley College.

Well done to all the teams!  A great effort!

No matches this weekend due to the public holiday.

Water Polo

Trainer of the week: This season we will name players/trainers of the week throughout the term on Note Day each week. These players demonstrate commitment to the team in training and strong performance in games.

  • Opens Girls: Sela Tea
  • Inters Girls: Maddie Dunnet
  • Iners Boys: Max Mazlin

Focus for the week:

Following last week’s games, we will continue to focus on our defensive skills in the pool. Specifically, we will be further refining our positioning, awareness and agility in order to react quickly in defensive situations, keep up with opponents and legally impede their movements. In addition to this, another takeaway from the previous matches is our general fitness in the water, particularly in the last half of the games. As such, we will also be looking to improve our cardiovascular endurance to sustain player effort and intensity throughout the entirety of future games. We plan to build on these pivotal areas through a combination of swimming drills, ball exercises and game simulations on Thursday afternoon.

A few reminders:

  • Fixtures have been loaded onto Pulse and the student’s calendar. We encourage all students to download the Redlands App
  • Open Water Polo girls, your compulsory 1x Gym session on Tuesdays 3.30-4.30pm. Attendance is recorded.
  • Inter teams, to attend the Fitness session, please read the Fitness Center pulse page. Inter team students can select the morning they wish to attend but will need to register their attendance.
  • Water polo is a representative sport and as such attendance is compulsory to all training and fixtures. Absences must be logged through Pulse sport absence form.

General Sport Information

Fixtures

  • All student training and fixture details will be available to families under My Schedule on Redlands Pulse. Additionally, the weekly Fixtures (The Redlands Rhino) can be found on the Secondary School Sport page on Redlands Pulse from Wednesday each week. Please ensure you check Redlands Pulse Friday afternoon to ensure you have the latest fixture information.

Uniform

  • The Redlands sports uniform should be worn to all trainings and matches (students are not permitted to wear any non-Redlands branded clothing). In the event of inclement weather students should wear their Redlands fleece or sports tracksuit.
  • Students must wear trainer style sneakers that are preferably white with non-marking soles. It is part of our shared responsibility to ensure that students wear footwear that aligns with the activity to be undertaken. High top sneakers, Vans, Converse etc. are not appropriate for School Sport.

Saturday Sport Absences

  • Parents are required to log an absence via Clipboard prior to missing any training session.
  • Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture.
  • Injured students are required to attend all training sessions and Saturday fixtures.
  • Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards and result in school disciplinary action.
  • Please refer to the Student Planner 2024 for full details on requirements for participating in a Representative Sport.
  • Bus Transport
    • When travelling on Redlands transport the Redlands school rules are in place and students should be always upholding the values of the school:
  • Have good behaviour, safe behaviour and appropriate language at all times.
  • Follow the driver (and supervising staff) instructions at all times.
  • Obey the transport rules and regulations at all times (seat belts must be worn at all times).
  • Leave the bus how they found it (no rubbish, no mess).

Students who fail to meet the standards of the above will face school disciplinary action.

Wet Weather

  • Unless communicated differently or in the morning of the session (via Redlands Pulse & Clipboard), all training sessions are to be deemed ‘on’.
  • Students should bring with them a change of Redlands Sport Uniform (Thursdays only) or their school uniform (Tuesday) if there are light showers during training.

Summer Sport Selection Term 4

Summer Sport selections for all Junior School students went live on Tuesday and the response has been excellent. As some sports have capped participation numbers (Non Rep Sports), can I remind those families who have not completed their child’s Term 4 Summer Sport nominations to do so now. A reminder that for Non Rep Sports in Winter the commitment is Term 2 and 3 which aligns with our IPSHA Winter Sport season for Rugby and Football which is why your child’s Non-Rep Term 2 Sport rolls over and continues into Term 3. Please note that Rep Basketball, Tennis and Touch Football teams recommence their season from Term 1 so those families are asked to select those sports again. There is no automatic roll over for these sports.

Well done to all those students who represented HICES and Redlands at the CIS Cross Country Championships. In very muddy, wet, and cold conditions all our representatives had a great run. A tough run but well done to all our athletes and we wish Aurelio good luck in the next stage at NSW.

Redlands Pulse Orientation and Navigation Video

Our intranet, Redlands Pulse, is the first port of call for all Junior School Sport related enquiries. A video has been produced to show you how to navigate through Pulse. You can view this short video here.

Redlands Pulse -The Junior School Sport pages on Redlands Pulse will continue to be the ‘source of truth’ for all information relating to sport this term. I am asking that if parents have an enquiry relating to sport that your first port of call will be the Junior School Sport section of Redlands Pulse.

Sport Information Booklet

For all Sport information regarding what sports we offer when, how to navigate our documents, as well as information on Uniforms and Carnivals please refer to our Parent Information Booklet on Pulse.

Wednesday Sport Inability to Train

If your child has an injury that prevents them from training, please send through an email to Junior Sport juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au requesting they ‘sit out’ of training for that particular session. We can then forward this to the relevant external coaching staff. Where applicable please include when they can return to normal training, so coaches are aware of this. That way coaching staff are aware of an injury that prevents them from participating at the venue but also allows us to be aware of periods where they are medically required to ‘sit out’.

Representative Sport Student Absence

If students are absent on match day, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.

Please don’t hesitate to view our Sport Information page on Redlands Pulse if you have any questions pertaining to Sport.

Students, Parents and Carers are asked to carefully read the SMF Letter sent out via email this week for all details relating to production week rehearsals. We are asking that all students prioritise these activities over their other commitments during this week.

SMF Whole Cast Rehearsal – Next Sunday 16/6

As advised via the SMF Letter, and via previous Note Day issues in our events calendar, all members of the Senior Cocurricular Music program are rehearsing next Sunday between 9.45am – 2.45pm at Redlands.  Students are reminded to wear their Festival t-shirts and to bring their instrument, scores, a packed lunch and snacks.

As with the long days at the Concourse, we also recommend students bring a book or some quiet activities should they find themselves with downtime in between their calls.

Everyone will be dismissed for collection at the Gerard St gates at 2.45pm, with the exception of the Yr 12 featured students who will rehearse till 4pm. Let’s make some music!

Studio Concerts

It’s been a delight to hear the wonderful performances coming from our rooms at lunchtime, where our students are showcasing their performing skills in Studio Concerts! These informal concert opportunities are an opportunity for both our students to perform and parents, carers and friends to check in with their children’s musical learning!  We’ve only got a couple more tomorrow; come along and see our shine as performers.

Drama and Theatre

A Special Community, Builds a Special Experience

This week has been another incredible week in the Drama and Theatre space.

On Sunday I had the absolute pleasure of attending the State Shakespeare Carnival at the Seymour Centre, York Theatre. On Saturday our State Carnivalers, Remis Gibbs, Freya Kittle, Millie Winton and Betti Butcher had, with their coach, Mr Lincloin Gidney, attended an all day workshop.  The students were treated to an absolute masterclass in physical theatre with professional Theatre practitioners, Christopher Tomkinson and Gabriel Fancourt, NIDA trained and Meyerhold proponents. To say I was proud is the biggest understatement. The competition brings together the best in the State. In the Physical Theatre Category there were six exceptional pieces. Our piece, based on Julius Caesar, was powerful, controlled and foreboding. The results – we placed third in the state, which was incredible given the high standard. We offer a huge congratulations to these students, it was absolutely sensational, your poise, comradery and kindness to all in the competition was inspiring. I would also like to thank your incredible coach, Mr Gidney. He has helped you create a very special piece of theatre, his hard work and genuine dedication reflects his depth of knowledge and expertise and we are lucky to have him on our Drama and Theatre staff.

Last night, Wednesday, June 5th, we also were treated to a spectacular evening of theatre. The year 11 HSC Drama classes combined and presented scenes from Matt Cameron’s,  Ruby Moon

The parents I spoke to afterwards were absolutely speechless, many offered high praise for the students commenting on their maturity, the slick performance and production elements. For a Production Experience Unit, these students really rose to offer their absolute best in this showcase. Magnificent performances and I am not doing them justice with these few words. After this I wondered, how will these students rise as they enter their HSC in just a term? All I know is this is a group of thespians we need to keep a close eye on, they are going to surprise us. Thank you very much to one of their amazing classroom teachers, Ms Samantha Novis, who is always so passionate and intuitive, inviting everyone to see the positives in every role and all opportunities. It would be remiss of me if I didn’t thank the amazing Mr Hummerston, whose technical capacity for lighting, sound and multimedia highlights why he is just so good at his craft. A cleverly recycled set elevated the design and performance space, as did the costumes, thanks to the kind assistance of Ms MacKinnon.  If you’d like to see the programme, scan this QR code, as we aim to be more sustainable in Drama and Theatre.

Finally, I would ask everyone to pop a couple of dates in the diary, the incredible Year 12 HSC Drama cohort, led by their amazing teacher Ms Jansons, & supported by the talented tutor, Ms Amber Virtue, will present the Individual Performances on the 14th of June, this is just a small window on the way to their final exams brought to life to showcase their skills, and, on August 8, 9, & 10 we present,  Away the School play for 2024 which will be performed at the Zenith Theatre.

Thank you to the Drama and Theatre community, parents, students and staff who continue to build magical moments in this shared space, it’s a pretty special experience.

Year 11 HSC Drama – Ruby Moon

The Year 11 HSC Drama performance evening last night focused on the Elements of Production in Performance. As part of this performance examination, students performed a collection of scripted scenes from Matt Cameron’s play Ruby Moon. Students have been studying the stylistic conventions and dramatic forms of Absurdism and learning how to develop and apply production elements to enhance these through dramatic meaning.

Well done Year 11 HSC!
