Year 8

Success at the Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday we travelled out to SOPAC for the annual Swimming Carnival.

After many well fought races, McDouall was able to secure their first swimming carnival victory in eight years.

There was strong participation among Year 8 students and the spirit on display was very pleasing to witness.

Congratulations to a number of students who secured championship placements. These include:

  • William Thomson 13 Boys Runner-up
  • Amelie Swann the 14 Girls Champion and Junior Division Champion
  • Tara Ward the 14 Girls Runner-up
  • Cameron Petrie 14 Boys Runner-up

Student Planner

As part of focus on self management and organisation for the year we are asking students to ensure that they actively use their student planners each day. These should be used for:

  • planning for lessons on a weekly basis
  • recording lesson theme and home learning activities
  • preplanning and ‘chunking’ of assessment activities, and
  • keeping dates of upcoming key events.

Over the first few weeks of the term we will be using part of our dedicated academic care time in Tutor to examine why planners are important and how they can be used effectively.

To ensure students are using this as a planning tool we are asking them to get their planner signed by their parent/guardian weekly. This will be counter-signed by their Tutor as well.

We are organising a Movie Night as a fundraiser on Friday February 10 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. All proceeds will go to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).  The WWF strives to conserve nature through protecting our valuable environment and aims to reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. The movie that will be shown is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It is classified PG. The ticket price is $5 and Yr 11 students will be selling tickets at lunchtimes this week (Week 2) by cash and EFTPOS. Additionally, there will be snacks available for purchase at lunchtime through a bake sale in Liggins Quad.

If your child stays to watch the movie, please ensure they are able to return home via public transport or get picked up at 5:30pm as the campus will be closed at that time. We would love for your child to attend what will be an exciting and enjoyable evening for them while contributing to an excellent cause.
