Year 8
Yr 8 STEAM
On Monday and Tuesday, Yr 8 engaged in two full days of STEAM. On the first day, students listened to the wonderful guest speaker Andrea Sosa Pintos – Senior Program Manager: Indo-Pacific Plastics Innovation Network at CSIRO, who spoke about the alarming rate of micro-plastics that we consume each week. (Apparently a credit card size amount!)
The students responded to Andrea and the above driving question by ideating, creating and planning a presentation of their solution/prototype, where one winner from each house was selected to demonstrate at a final REDx unveiling in Redlands Hall.
Congratulations to all of Yr 8 for their hard work to create some very innovative and effective prototypes!
Yr 8 Science Symposium
I had the pleasure of judging the Yr 8 finalists and their group Science projects on Thursday morning. It was so inspiring to hear each group communicate their hypotheses, the challenges they faced and their interesting scientific findings.
Congratulations to the following winners:
Best Science Methodology: Glowsticks – Toby Anderson, Toby Longhurst, James Collyer and Cooper Beeton
Originality and Effort: Balloon Powered Car – Arkie Riches, Mackenzie Drew and Zoe Twining
Best Presentation: Balloon Zoom – Alanah Winder, Annabelle Kesby and Mika Currie
Overall Winner: Splatter – Alexandria Fitzpatrick, Rory Hobbs and Bianca Neill
