Year 8

Holidays
With the holidays not too far away, it is worth considering how the change in routine can affect our teens. Parents and carers will possibly be juggling work and caring commitments which often leaves teens with more than usual downtime. Some children are not good at reaching out to peers for social connection and can find themselves online watching a plethora of content. This loss in routine, can affect student wellbeing. Regular exercise, regular healthy meals and a consistent bedtime can be positive strategies to ensure that wellbeing is preserved. Helping children to plan connection time with friends can ensure that they have social opportunities to look forward to. Relaxation, meditation and breathing techniques are positive techniques that can reduce anxious tendencies and enhance wellbeing. A small amount of planning prior to the long holiday break can pay great dividends to ensure that children remain happy and connected.

Week 6 and 7

There are a number of exciting, experiential learning activities occurring for our Yr 8 students in the coming weeks. Next Wednesday, Yr 8 will be attending a ‘Water in the World’ Geography excursion to Manly Dam.

On Tuesday we have a Yr 7-9 Assembly, where our Secondary School Captains will be launching their 2023 vision and motto. This assembly is key to establishing cultural aims for our student leaders and Yr 8 will undoubtedly enjoy the fun atmosphere and opportunity to connect as a cross-grade group.

On Monday and Tuesday of Week 7 our eLearning Coordinator, Ms Wendy Duckworth is running a STEAM incursion. STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Music. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to learn and develop their skills in these disciplines. Students will relish the opportunity to work collaboratively with like minds to strategise and problem solve.

In addition, some of our Yr 8 students will be taking part in rehearsals and performance for the Redlands Ballet and Dance Academy End of Year Performance at The Concourse, Chatswood.
