Year 8

Overview

Yr 8 have settled back in well to the start of Term 3 and are into the swing of the busy lives they have at Redlands. This week they were fortunate to hear from the cyber safety expert Brett Lee, who provided an informative session for them on Monday afternoon. He covered issues such as cyber bullying and responsible social media behaviour, and I am sure that the students felt much better informed of some of the dangers and issues surrounding the use of the internet.

Reminders
  • Students are reminded that they must select their Summer sport as soon as possible
  • Friday 3 August is Jeans for Genes Day and students are reminded to bring a gold coin and wear denim to school to help raise money for such a great cause.
  • Wednesday 8 August (next week) is Yr 8 Parent Teacher night and booking is now available online through an email that you would have received. Please be prompt with your bookings as some teachers have more than one class and will therefore have limited spaces available.
7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey

Yr 8 will be focusing on 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (by Sean Covey) in their Tutor and Chapel sessions this term. There is a famous quote by the English poet, John Dryden, who says “We first make our habits, then our habits make us”. You may be interested in reading the book so you are aware of the areas that we will be focusing on. The first habit is “Be proactive – take responsibility for your life”, where students will be looking at how they need to take responsibility for their choices, think before they act, find ways to move forward and focus on things they can do something about.
