Heritage Week
‘Along with some of my classmates, I had the privilege of presenting about Heritage Week to the Yr 7 and 8s last Thursday. We spoke about the history of the creative arts at Redlands, dating all the way back to the founding of the school in 1884. We learnt so much about our School’s history when preparing the presentation, which was very interesting. There were so many great photos from the archives we were able to use. Much has changed since the days when the main dance styles were folk and ballroom. The audience was great, genuinely interested and taking in as much information as they could. So many people take part in at least one of the creative arts, and I hope they all learnt something new about the history and timeline of their passions. I certainly did! It was a valuable experience for everyone, and I hope this initiative will be continued in the years to come so more students can hear about the fascinating history of Redlands’.

House Spirit Day
Hosted by the Yr 12 Student Leadership Team, Yr 8 were provided with the opportunity to develop House spirit in a friendly and inclusive environment. The aim was to have as many students as possible to participate in the afternoon, to be involved in fun activities, and an excellent opportunity for peer support relationships to strengthen across the year group. Activities included Just Dance competitions, Lip Sync Battles, 3 Vs 3 Basketball, Dodgeball, Chess and Novelty Races. Thank you to Yr 12 and Ms Jansons for a wonderful afternoon.

ICAS Science
The 2021 International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in Science will take place on Monday 23 August in school. This competition is undertaken by over 400,000 students across Australia and the region and is a rigorous test of scientific thinking. Participation in the competition provides our students with excellent examination practice and an opportunity to see how they fare in competition with students of their own age from across the country. Students who are interested in Science can use the test to assess areas of strength and weakness. Success at the test is a way of demonstrating aptitude when applying for Science related opportunities in and out of school.
Entry for students in Years 7-10 is voluntary. Please complete the form here Registration for ICAS before Monday 9 August if you would like your child to take part. A fee of $16 will be charged to your account if you wish your child to participate.
