Looking for ideas of how to keep the children and yourself occupied through the holidays? The Senior Pastoral team, Tutors and students have put their heads together and developed a list of individual and collective activities that you can do from home.
Redlands
- Redlands Counselling (iLearn): Useful information and resources to assist with maintaining student wellbeing.
- Redlands Sports (iLearn): Training sessions tailored to individual sporting codes or general fitness.
On Your Own or With the Family
- Hot Dub Time Machine @ Home(Twitch): dance-through-the-decades audio visual party in your living room. Australian DJ, Tom Loud, showcases songs from every decade and genre of music, weaving it into one expansive, electrifying, music history lesson. The best party ever!
- Start an online book club with friends or neighbours.
- Play online cards with your friends while zooming them with the link. Includes checkers, fish, crazy 8s etc.

- Family Survivor/ Challenges – each day is a new challenge and a different family member decides (cannot go outside your house)
- Film some parodic memes

- Visit a world-class museum or your local library online. The British Museum, The Guggenheim Museum, Musée d’Orsay, The Lourve and The Van Gogh Museum are just a handful of museums offering virtual tours.
- Head to Taronga Zoo or the Monterey Aquarium via live cams.
- Watch world class theatre from your couch with National Theatre Live at Home
- Create a family gratitude wall of things you appreciate – update it regularly with pics!
Get Moving
Clear the living room or venture into the back yard and get that heart rate pumping.
- Redlands SS Sport Holiday Fitness Sessions: Four holiday challenges which range in difficulty and can be completed over a number of days. Student prizes will be awarded. See Secondary School iLearn page (under the Fitness tab) and Secondary Sports section of Note Day for more details.
- Nike Training Club (App): We may be stuck indoors, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be active. It’s time to go all-in by working out with NTC live in your living room. Over the coming weeks, we’ll provide you with workouts, nutrition advice and expert help, so we can all come from this stronger than ever. Join in with a community of living room athletes.
- Yoga with Adriene (YouTube): Well-loved yoga channel, with over six million subscribers. She’s quirky and down-to-earth, and offers yoga classes lasting from five minutes through to an hour.

Cooking
Go beyond the familiar meat and three veg and host a family or virtual MasterChef competition.
- Binging with Babish (YouTube): Join Babish each week as he recreates the foods you’ve always wanted to try in movies and television
- Make a “cake cup” in the microwave

- Start a herb pot or veggie garden (perhaps you may still have some Woolworths Discovery Garden seeds tucked away).
Mindfulness
Take some time for yourself and just breathe
- Headspace Mini Meditations (YouTube/App): Get a taste of Headspace with these super-short meditations and mindfulness exercises.
- Keep your minds occupied by completing a family jigsaw puzzle for adults.
