Issue 11 2020 - 09 Apr 2020

From the Principal

As the term draws to a close and I write my final Note Day article for the term, I do so with deep gratitude for the way in which our school community has responded to the challenges this year.

The staff have remained resolute and determined to provide high quality educational opportunities for our students, always seeking to improve, take on feedback, collaborate and be creative. It has been a dynamic and evolving process and one that has required flexibility of thinking and honest evaluation and reflection.

Our students have found a new appreciation for the connectedness they share through their schooling experiences. The importance of their relationships and support for each other has been amplified. They have had to remain positive and adapt to new ways of learning and collaborating. Our Year 12 cohort have had to quickly move on from their disappointment of not being together on campus in their final year, to look for ways to connect, to bring the School together, to share their sense of fun and humour.

To all parents and carers, I thank you for your open communication, for your words of encouragement and support, which have meant so much, and for taking the time to send in your feedback, which will continue to help refine our remote learning program. At our recent RPFA online meeting, I was so impressed by the focus of the group on how the school community can reach out and support those in need. Adversity often brings out the best in people and has a way of focusing our attention on what is really important.

Thank you sincerely for your exceptional efforts in supporting your children through this new period of remote learning. It brings new meaning to the sense of our School and parents working in partnership for the benefit your children.

As we head into the term break, I wanted to reiterate the message conveyed by the Chair of the Board, Glenda McLoughlin, regarding support for our families during this time. Please get in touch with our CFO Brad Weatherstone bweatherstone@redlands.nsw.edu.au if you are experiencing financial hardship, and a period of bursary assistance or a deferred fee payment plan would enable you to continue the enrolment of your children at the School at this time. We will be sending out the Term 2 Fee Statements next week with a payment date by Tuesday 12 May (which is two weeks later than the Term 2 Fees payment date advised last year), so please advise our CFO if you need any assistance.

Redlands House Assessment and Rating

We were delighted to be advised this week that our Redlands House Preschool was once again rated as ‘Exceeding the National Quality Standard’ in all seven areas of assessment by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). This is the highest possible rating that can be achieved and we acknowledge the work of our exceptional Redlands House team, most ably led by Mrs Huon and Mrs Fellowes before her move to Queensland.

In closing, I shared an excerpt from a prayer by Brother Richard Hendrick in this week’s online Secondary School assembly for the students and in some of our parent webinars. It resonated with me in terms of the wisdom in the words and the hope and optimism conveyed. I share it with you now as a message that transcends faith traditions and one you may appreciate at this time.

It reads, in part:

So we pray and we remember that:
Yes there is fear.
But there does not have to be hate.
Yes there is isolation.
But there does not have to be loneliness.
Yes there is panic buying.
But there does not have to be meanness.
Yes there is sickness.
But there does not have to be disease of the soul
Yes there is even death.
But there can always be a rebirth of love.

As we head into the holiday break and Easter this weekend, may God bless you and your families at this time, and I look forward to us reconnecting through our remote learning program after the break and ultimately and more significantly, when we are all back on campus in person.

Foundation

New Learning Hub Update

The development of this new learning space has been progressing well. The wall between the Canteen and the development has been removed and the interior spaces have started to be populated with equipment and final fit-outs. We are grateful to all our donors for supporting this wonderful transformative project.

Lasting Recognition

I would like to thank all Redlands families who kindly contributed to this development. It will transform our Senior Campus and provide our students and teachers with facilities to support our innovative approach to teaching and learning.

A specially designed Donor Recognition Wall will be a permanent feature of the New Learning Hub entrance with over 330 Family Plaques comprising of three categories (Bronze, Silver and Gold). This will create a fabulous mosaic made from innovative materials to celebrate the wonderful support from our community.

Class of 1990 30 Year Reunion

In the absence of the Reunion of Class of 1990 last Friday, we reminded our community of the importance of this era when the Junior School moved to its current site (previously occupied by Cremorne Girls High School), thus expanding the area of our campus.

Redlands Alumni Facebook was full of archival images and comments from the classroom, the sporting field, the stage and the playground which entertained our Redlanders well into the weekend!

“Does anyone remember the scavenger hunt we did one weekend? So much fun and a highlight of Yr 12 (1990) for me! I remember one of the items to collect was Mr Seawright’s dated signature. Anyone else remember this?” Redlander, Class of 1990

Happy Easter

The Foundation team would like to wish all our families a relaxing and enjoyable Easter holiday.

Reflection

It has certainly been a long and challenging term for all of us and I am certain that everyone is looking forward to this upcoming Easter break, even if it will be very different than how most families would usually spend it. While I know that we would prefer “normal” school and face to face learning, I am so proud of how staff and students have quickly pivoted to this new remote educational space. Many businesses speak of the importance of agility, and I have seen it in droves from teachers and students in recent weeks. A few of the highlights have been:

  • Our Yr 12 student leaders working collaboratively to put together a wonderfully uplifting end of term assembly on Tuesday – and even allowing me the opportunity make a fool of myself in front of the camera!
  • The dedication and creative thinking of our Learning Plus Department, ensuring that students would still be able to access special provisions during their recent Yr 12 HSC Half Yearly Assessments

  • Witnessing true school spirit as over 200 students and staff competed in the Virtual House Cross Country Carnival over the past week, led admirably by Cross Country Captain, Leo Colin, Head Coach of Cross Country, Mr Nick Walker, and the Sports Department.
  • Seeing our debaters “keep the spirit of debating alive” with a trial virtual debate via Zoom against Pymble Ladies’ College last Friday, tuned in by 60 staff, students and parents across the two schools. Congratulations to Ela Yohannan, Aleisha Lawrence, Sirena Scotting and Theo Mirlees-Black who were victorious in the debate.

  • Witnessing Science experiments occurring outside of my office window yesterday and live streamed to classes via Zoom.

These are just a few of the many examples of staff and students working collaboratively and creatively to ensure wonderful educational experiences are still occurring throughout the Secondary School.

As some of the students on the Virtual Cross Country Carnival chat are aware, I do enjoy listening to music for inspiration. Recently, I watched Ben Platt and the cast of one of my favourite musicals, Dear Evan Hansen, perform You Will Be Found on the Late Show with James Corben. The performance was uplifting and reminded me of the importance of keeping a positive outlook and being there for others during this time. These lyrics from the song particularly resonated with me:

“Out of the shadows
The morning is breaking
And all is new, all is new
It’s filling up the empty
And suddenly I see that
All is new, all is new”

Like many of you, while I would prefer a different reality, I am also witnessing some “new” positives in these recent weeks.

  • I have seen once again that our community is our strength as it has come together not just in support of one another, but also in the many messages of genuine and heartfelt gratitude shared amongst one another
  • Like many of you, I have been able to share in quality family time with my wife and sons in recent weeks
  • I have seen people reaching out to one another across cities, countries and continents to connect with each other remotely. (Every morning when I am driving into school, I have been calling a family member or friend in the United States to check in or just say hi.)
  • I have noticed in the wider community that “random acts of kindness” are no longer random, but are becoming more commonplace as people are showing greater compassion and empathy for one another
  • I have begun to further appreciate the little things in life that I might have previously taken for granted – a run outside with my dog, the call of a cockatoo echoing across the Campus, a beautiful sunrise.

So, I hope all of you can have some quality time with your families during this Easter break and find your own “new” positives during this time.

Reports

Term 1 Approaches to Learning Reports will be available on Pulse at the end of the term for all parents and carers in Yrs 7-12. The aim of these reports is to bring parents in to conversations between students, teachers and Tutors in tracking students’ effort. Parents will see both student self-reflections and teacher feedback on areas of Engagement, Diligence and Behaviour. There will be no marks, teacher feedback on outcomes, teacher comments or Tutor comments on these reports as these will constitute reports later in the year. More information can be found on the cover pages of this upcoming report. In addition, further information on how to access these reports on Pulse will be sent to parents and carers. We hope these reports are useful feedback for students and parents at this stage of the year.

Cross Country Carnival

Congratulations to the over 200 students and staff who competed in the Virtual House Cross Country Carnival over the past week. It was great to see everyone posting their runs in recent days. Congratulations to McDouall for winning the House Cross Country Shield and for all of the individual age champions. A special thank you to Cross Country Captain, Leo Colin, Head Coach of Cross Country, Mr Nick Walker, and the Sports Department for their leadership of this event.

Staffing Update

As mentioned in last week’s Note Day, I wanted to update our community on a few staffing changes at the end of this term. As many of you are aware, Ms Kristy Walker has commenced her maternity leave towards the end of this term, and we thank Ms Sahya Saheki for covering her classes during these past few weeks. We are pleased to welcome Ms Ashleigh Moore to Redlands to cover Ms Kristy Walker’s maternity leave for the remainder of the year. Ms Johnson has five years’ experience teaching Dance to Secondary School students in the NSW system.

In addition, after 13 years as a valued History teacher, Tutor and Year Advisor, Ms Emma Bergin will leave us at the end of this term to take up a position as Subject Coordinator of History at Queenwood commencing in Term 2. We wish Ms Bergin all the best as she moves into this new leadership position. We are pleased to announce that Mr Luke Cantrill will be returning to Redlands to fill Ms Bergin’s position from the beginning of Term 2. Mr Cantrill is a familiar face to many Redlands students as he taught History in the Secondary School covering a leave position last year. Mr Cantrill has also taught History at a number of other independent schools in Sydney.

Eggs and hot cross buns; the symbols of Easter adorn our shops when we head out of our homes for that quick, essential shopping trip. These symbols point to a message of love, hope and life, which is so needed in our current situation.

I was listening to Radio National this morning as they interviewed Dr Jodie McVernon from the Doherty Institute, the Director of the Epidemiology Department. She was speaking about the various modelling of the Coronavirus to help work out prudent strategies for our country. Her observation at the end was that this is so distressing as the reality dawns that there is and will be a death toll. Death, she said is something we are unaccustomed to in an age of so many medical triumphs.

We find untimely death challenging and this is what makes Easter this year even more powerful and poignant.

The Crosses remind us that while Jesus experienced an untimely and unjust death, it was for our sake and it was not the end of the Easter account. Jesus, to everyone’s surprise, rose from the dead. He walked with his disciples, ate with them, they touched his hands and they were convinced that Jesus, who had been dead, was now alive.

The cross thus embodies a powerful message that death is not the end and an even more powerful message of love for all who wish to accept Jesus. This message of hope and love rang in the ears of the disciples, transforming them as they understood their lives as part of a far bigger picture. I love the quote from the bible that captures their new perspective:

‘Death has been swallowed up in victory,
Where, O death, is your victory
Where, O death, is your sting’. 1 Corinthians 15:54,55

This same victory song has been picked up by poets and artists throughout generations and is the very heartbeat of the Christian faith. One of my particular favourites is John Donne’s Sonnet:

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul’s delivery.

Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell’st thou then?

One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

The significant symbols of eggs speak to life. I remember as a child thinking that the eggs were an image of the empty tomb. I loved the clever trick my Dad did in breaking open a large egg to find some strips of linen – imagine my surprise when I bought my own eggs and did not find any linen! Yet the real meaning of the egg is the breaking forth into new life. New life that is not immediately evident with the hard smooth shell but suddenly bursting forth as the chick breaks out. How can that not be a retelling of the Resurrection at every hatching. So Easter eggs promise us that, as we trust in Jesus, we too will break forth from the barren grave into the eternal life he promises. We too can live in his kingdom where there is no death, no sickness, no pain and no tears. Surely this is a message of love, hope and life we need to be reminded of right now!

So may this Easter be a time of searching and finding hope. May you and your family discover the abundant love of the Lord God and may you thrill at the new life that the cross and the empty tomb offers you.

We invite you to join in services this Easter as you reflect on this:

Debating

We ran a trial debate on Zoom last Friday against Pymble Ladies’ College. As this was only confirmed on Friday, I was not able to publish it to our wider community. An invitation was sent that afternoon to all debaters, their parents and Debating staff with a view to collecting feedback on online Debating and to keep the spirit of Debating alive. We had 59 participants ranging from Yr 7 to senior students, parents and staff from both schools.

Ela Yohannan, Aleisha Lawrence, Sirena Scotting and Theo Mirrlees-Black debated against the topic “That all students should have a compulsory visit to an abattoir in their schooling”.  They did our school proud with their sophisticated arguments and by winning the debate.

Overall the debate was a success and I am in discussion with the FED authorities on how to scale this up to be able to complete the FED season next term. The ISDA have ruled out online Debating for the moment but if we are able to run a competition, they may possibly review the situation.

If you watched the debate and have any feedback, please contact me.

Year 8

This Week

Congratulations to our incredible Yr 8 runners and enthusiastic participants who took part in the Virtual House Cross Country Challenge. Age 13 Boys had the most participants with an overwhelming 24 students in that age category.  At this time, when joining together is physically challenging, this is a fantastic example of how to continue supporting one another and coming together as a community. Well done Yr 8!

A special congratulations to our fastest runners: Isaac Brooks, Flynn Kieran, Gianmarco Pradel, Liam McFarlene, Hamish Campbell, Daisy Thomas and Eva Osborne.

Head of Junior School

Thank You

These two simple words can and should always carry great weight and importance in how we connect with each other but, at times, the words can carry even stronger meaning and significance. Now is one such time.

I express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone in our special school community for their unwavering support, efforts, adaptability as well as the deep sense of school community spirit.

Our teaching and support staff have been nothing short of phenomenal in their commitment to their students and in embracing the changing landscape of learning and as I mentioned in our remote assemblies this week, I am equally proud of our students and their ability to adapt and be open to new ways of thinking and learning.

On Monday, one of our Yr 3 students, Viraj Tandon, popped in to drop a painting he had created as a ‘thank you’ to the School. The image entitled Mother, was of Mother Theresa and on the reverse, Viraj had written the following message, “In this time of universal care and need, a beacon of hope that binds humanity together”

As I said to students in our online assembly on Monday, we can either go through this or we can grow through this and I believe that our community’s response thus far will see us in a far better position for this experience when we get back to school and our everyday business.

Many of you will have heard the Queen speak to the Commonwealth this week and her final comments really resonated with where I think we are at Redlands:

“Better days will return; we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”

With continued best wishes to you and your families at this time and the very best of wishes for the Easter period.

Students’ Video Message

On behalf of the staff at Redlands, I also acknowledge and express appreciation to all Redlands parents and students for your continued messages of support and feedback and the  video message created by Junior School families and crafted with love and expertise by parent, Annie Flynn, was deeply moving for us all and tears of gratitude were shed by many of the staff.

The video contains some beautiful contributions that have poured in over the last few days and I know that families and our students will love seeing the final creation too (tissues might be needed).

The video can be privately accessed via this link and the password is light123

Thank you.

Parent Webinars

It was just wonderful to connect with over 500 Junior Campus families as we hosted four separate webinars this week for parents in the Preschool, Prep School, Yrs 3 and 4 and Yrs 5 and 6. Alongside our Principal Mr Webber, Deputy Principal Ms McGarry, Dean of Teaching and Learning Mrs Smith, Dean of Students Mrs Kourakis and Redlands House Coordinator Mrs Huon, it was wonderful to be able to share information with Redlands families through this medium and have real-time connection with our families. As I mentioned, as well as missing the students, I have missed daily interactions with families at times such as morning drop-off, pick-up or on the sidelines of sports matches so it was great to see so many friendly faces on screen.

We will seek to place the recorded video links to the sessions on Redlands Pulse during the upcoming holidays.

School Assemblies

Our final assemblies this week saw us continue to explore new ways of connecting with our students and joined again by Principal Mr Webber and Deputy Principal Ms McGarry, it was a joy to host remote Junior School assemblies this week for all of the students. It was lovely to see the many faces that make up our student group and we will continue to ensure that these types of connections continue next term.

Extra Art Activities Google Classroom Page

Students are invited to explore a range of activities from drawing, to outdoor art and art activities that the whole family can get involved in on the Google Classroom page. There are also links to virtual tours and art galleries that have built sites specifically for children to navigate and discover art. Ms Reinhold will be adding to this page which is open to students of all ages who would like to do some extra art in their own time. Class Code snvwvu4.

Student Wellbeing Matter

In preparation for the school holidays and in support of wellbeing, a resource list has been placed on Redlands Pulse. Here you will find a range of ideas, suggestions, links and activities centred on the Five Ways to Wellbeing: Staying Active, Keeping Connected, Learning New Things, Taking Notice and Being Kind.

Baby Abilene Jewel Clanfield

We were thrilled to hear of the safe arrival of baby Abilene Clanfield, a fifth child for Junior School Christian Studies teacher, James Clanfield. We wish James and his family all the very best at this time and both mum and bub are happy and healthy and her older siblings are positively smitten.

Term 2 Staffing News

We are delighted to welcome back Mr Brad Hemopo to our Junior Campus PDHPE team for the rest of the year. As some of you may recall, Mr Hemopo left us at the end of 2019 to commence a professional Rugby contract in the US but has returned after just four games with the abandonment of the season until 2021. As Mr Hemopo returns, we thank Mr James Duncan for fulfilling the role in Term 1.

On behalf of the staff at Redlands, I also acknowledge and express appreciation to all Redlands parents for your continued messages of support and feedback.

I have been in contact this week with Ainslie Breckenridge, our new Head of Preparatory School, and she is extremely excited to take up the helm during the holiday break when she and I, along with our Junior Campus Deans, will also meet to plan and prepare for the start of Term 2.

As I said to parents in the webinar session, we can either go through this or we can grow through this and I believe that our community’s response thus far will see us in a far better position for this experience when we get back to school and our everyday business.

Remote and Online Learning

This week saw a really positive introduction to Zoom in the Prep School and I received lots of very positive feedback from our Prep Coordinators Mrs Finlayson, Ms Hurley and Mrs Sharp about the way in which the children followed all the rules and expectations. Teachers also saw the joy amongst the students as they saw each other for the first time in a while and equally, the teachers themselves commented on how much they had missed seeing the children in their class. The teachers look forward to continuing to develop this synchronous learning platform next term.

Connected to this, we were delighted to have our Kindergarten Coordinator, Mrs Finlayson, invited to be part of the Association of Independent Schools’ panel on Remote Teaching and Learning in K-2, where some of our practices have been highlighted as high-quality.

Easter Hat Parade Joy!

Nothing gets in the way of the Easter Hat parade and judging by the smiles in the photos below, the children had a ball making their Easter hats at home. Thank you to parents and teachers for their partnership in ensuring that the students were able to see each other’s magnificent creations.

Term 2 Student Resource Packs

In listening to feedback from families who haven’t had ready access to printers, our Prep teachers have been collating student resource booklets which will be copied and collated before Term 2 commences. The teachers are preparing booklets for the first three weeks and if you would like to collect a booklet from Prep Reception, please note the information and instructions below to ensure a smooth and safe collection process:

Date:    Friday 24 April
Times:  Kindergarten 9.00-11.00am
               Yr 1 11.00am-1.00pm
               Yr 2 1.30-2.30pm

There will be a clear process marked out and only one family member should come in to collect the pack. There will be a one way system with entry through Prep Reception but an exit through another door out onto Allister Street as will be signposted. Please ensue that you wait at the front gate and come in when requested and that you maintain a 2m distance from other parents.

Term 2 Staffing News

We said farewell to Mrs Kim Chipper this week as she commences her maternity leave. We thank Mrs Chipper for her efforts up until her last day and look forward to hearing of her impending arrival in due course. As Kindergarten Yellow parents are already aware, we welcome back Mrs Rachel Haines to our staff team to take over the class for the remainder of the year. Mrs Haines worked at Redlands for a number of years before taking some time off to look after her young family and we are delighted to welcome her back as a permanent member of our staff team.

Redlands House Assessment and Rating

As many of you will know, Redlands House was assessed earlier this term by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA), an independent statutory authority that assists governments in implementing the National Quality Framework for early childhood education and care throughout Australia.

This detailed and rigorous assessment process is part of the accreditation process of every Early Childhood facility and I am both proud and thrilled to share the news that once again, Redlands House has been rated as ‘Exceeding the National Quality Standard’ in all seven areas of assessment. This is the highest possible rating that can be achieved and I acknowledge the work of our exceptional Redlands House team, most ably led by Mrs Huon and Mrs Fellowes before her move to Queensland.

Parent Webinars

It was just wonderful to connect with over 500 Junior Campus families as we hosted four separate webinars this week for parents in the Preschool, Prep School, Yrs 3 and 4 and Yrs 5 and 6. Thank you from Mrs Huon

A big thank you to all of our wonderful families at Redlands House for a fabulous first term for 2020! The staff highly value and greatly appreciate your ongoing support and contributions to our Preschool program and we are grateful for online learning and the strong connections we have at this time. I encourage you to continue to provide us with your feedback regarding day-to-day Preschool life, events or activities. It is this feedback that contributes to our Quality Improvement Plan and helps us to navigate through change when necessary.

My email contact is chuon@redlands.nsw.edu.au or please feel free to call for a chat at any time. Wishing you all a restful holiday break and I look forward to seeing you all next term.

Secondary Sport

Virtual Cross Country Challenge

It was a inspiring to witness the volume of students and other members of the Redlands community who took on the challenge of completing a 5km run, jog or walk for their House last week. We had over 250 students take part, not including all the students that ran multiple times to better their own PB and all the additional family members and pets who also joined in on the event. The virtual Cross Country event showed the power that sport has to keep people connected and keep people healthy during these times.

Congratulations to all students who took part. The results can be found on Redlands Pulse

Basketball Challenge

Well done to Emilie Bessell who this week won the Finger Spin challenge by spinning the basketball on her finger for 15 minutes! She hopes to go for the world record of 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Holiday Challenges

There are four holiday fitness challenges available on the Secondary School Sport iLearn page (under the Fitness tab). Some of these challenges can be completed over a number of days and range in difficulty and all are time based (ie: you are trying to get the fastest possible time). In order to be awarded any prizes you must have parental consent to film your attempts and email them through to sports@redlands.nsw.edu.au (you can enter as many times as you like).

These challenges are also open for parents to attempt!

Prior to completing your attempts please ensure you have completed an adequate warm up. We suggest 10-15 minutes of dynamic stretching and jogging. We also encourage you to do some stretching after you have completed all your challenge attempts. Best of luck!

Snowsports

NSW/ACT/Qld Interschools Update

Please read this full Statement 2.4.20a with the update:

“Snow Australia places the safety, health and wellbeing of its competitors, volunteers, parents and school communities as our prime focus. We recognise the pressures that schools are currently experiencing and supporting Principals, School Snowsports Coordinators, staff and students is our highest priority.

Following advice to Schools over the past seven day period that cancels all Term 1 and 2 school sporting events from now through to July, all NSW Regional and QLD Interschools events planned for the July school holiday period (Saturday 4 July to Sunday 19 July) in NSW resorts, are now cancelled. This includes the Northern NSW and QLD event at Thredbo, and the Sydney event at Perisher.

We thank you for your patience during these unprecedented times. Our capacity and collective endeavour to eventually welcome guests safely to the mountains during the course of winter this year remains the positive objective.

  • An undertaking to review qualification and entry processes into the 2020 NSW/ACT/QLD State Interschool Championships over the coming ten day period, with a view to publish that by mid-April.

Snow Australia Interschools and Thredbo continue to plan for the August 2020 NSW/ACT/QLD State Interschool Championships. A formal announcement of either the hosting or the cancellation of this August event will occur on or before the end of July.

  • The qualification process to the NSW/ACT/QLD State Event, will be developed and published by mid-April.

Snow Australia Interschools and Perisher continue to plan for the September 2020 Snow Australia National Interschool Championships. A formal announcement of either the hosting or the cancellation of this September event will occur on or before mid-August.

  • Qualification to the Australian Event, if any August State Event is not held, will be developed by the National Interschools Committee during July.”

Redlands Cup

This means that the Redlands Cup (11 July) also needs to be (very sadly) cancelled. Any payments to cancelled events will be fully refunded next term.

July Holiday Programs

Decisions around all July holiday programs at HCC will be advised as soon as possible. We need more information as the main considerations are the Government Policies and the opening of the resorts.

FOSS Events

Friends of Snowsports (FOSS) regrets that The Icebreaker event at the Balmoral Beach Club on Thursday 30 April was cancelled by the venue.

The Second Hand Ski and Snowboard Equipment Sale on the Senior Campus on Sunday 3 May has to be postponed until June or further notice.

Dryland Training

This is a good opportunity to check out the Dryland Training exercise program now available on the Secondary Sports iLearn page under Snowsports and get fit and stay healthy whilst remote learning.

Thanks for your understanding and support in these difficult times.

What Do Music Lessons Look Like In Your Home?

From Our Youngest to Oldest Learners

“…every success story is a tale of constant adaption, revision and change…”. Richard Branson

The Music Department would like to finish this term by acknowledging the collective power of participation and contribution as a school community. In light of the rapid events concerning COVD-19 and the sudden changes to our teaching and learning landscape, we would like to thank the students, the parents and all of our staff in working together collaboratively, in preparing, facilitating and supporting a virtual learning environment.

We recognise and understand the important role of the parents in this process, and we thank you for your patience, suggestions and support as together we deliver the various components of the Redlands Music program.

On reflection at the end of the school term, as we contemplate on our journey this past month, the Music Department takes great pride in meeting our new goals to deliver online learning platforms for the Academic, Cocurricular and Extra Subjects Music programs.

Certainly, a significant effort by all members of our team, and one that demonstrates resilience, persistence and dedication. It goes without saying, but it is the spirit of cooperation and support as a Music community that has enabled us to get to this point, as we have all learned very quickly to become adaptive in this new environment.

In celebrating this dynamic new teaching space we would like to share with you some images of the ‘adapted’ Music classroom from our youngest learners of Music through to our most senior Music Elective students, taking a step inside the learning spaces of Mrs Anderson and Ms Brodie.

From the start of our Music learning journey through to the very end, both of these Music teachers exude immense passion, commitment and dedication to their craft. It has been wonderful to see these learning spaces come to life over the past few weeks and we hope this has been your experience in your own homes.
