Year 7

This Week

It was exactly one year ago when our incredible Yr 7 cohort was taking part in their rising Yr 7 Orientation Day. This week our new cohort of rising Yr 7 students was on campus and it was incredible to watch the interaction among the senior students and their reactions to the Yr 6 students. Conor Petersen and Cadence Austin volunteered to offer their advice and tips of what they have learned in their first year in the Secondary School. It all seems not that long ago and this cohort has grown so much as they prepare for Yr 8.

Assistance Dogs Australia

As students continue to raise money for Assistance Dogs Australia, the dogs and their trainers came to visit our cohort last week for students to see first-hand what their time, effort and donations are supporting. Valuable information was shared and the pups prepared a presentation of their skills so far in their training. While the Yr 7 Coin Challenge and Bake Sale are complete and were a huge success, the following two fundraisers are still underway:

Silly Sunglasses Day – tomorrow (Friday), students are invited to wear silly sunglasses to school for a gold coin donation.

Pet Photo Competition – running through Weeks 5 and 6, students are submitting the cutest, funniest and most unique photo of their pet through iLearn for a gold coin donation. Winners will be chosen by the students and announced Friday Week 6.

Again, all funds collected support training a dog through Assistance Dogs Australia.  Thank you to all the incredible and creative Yr 7 students who have led these fundraising efforts.

End of Year Reminders

There have been an increasing number of students wearing their PE uniforms to school, not changing into their full school uniform after morning sport or not changing after PE. Students will receive a formal detention for not complying with this school policy and we are reminding all students to ensure they do change at the first available time slot, either before school, during Recess, during lunch or immediately after Period 6.  Thank you for your support in this effort.

While summer is just around the corner, students are reminded that classes are still in full effect and curriculum continues to be covered. Some students have needed further reminding of classroom expectations and requirements as they enter these last few weeks. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this message at home as well so students can use these last classes to set the tone for the beginning of their Yr 8 learning experience.

Summer Recommendations from Dr Prue Salter

Summer provides the perfect time for students to revisit their filing system and determine where they might keep their assessments or notes from this year that they might need again for subjects next year. It might also be the time to clean out and determine a better way to organise for Yr 8 after some reflection on how this year went. See tips from the module shown below for further strategies and guidance.
