Year 7
This Week
We were very appreciative for the special presentation to our Yr 7 cohort last week by Marguerite Gillezeau, Redlands Archivist, on the history of Redlands. Students were intrigued to know how the school started, how few male students were first part of the school and many other fantastic Redlands trivia questions and answers. Several students commented on what they had learned between the special Yr 7 presentation on Thursday and the whole school assembly on Friday. Heritage Week is a special celebration to commemorate our School’s birthday and to remember the many reasons we have pride in our school and in being a Redlander.
Congratulations to our fantastic Yr 7 finalists who submitted a photograph in the Gala Arts Visual Arts photo competition with the theme of Light: Sierra Allen, Aaron Beder, Zara Clement, Miles Eden, Emma Sullivan, Alex Tanner and Daisy Thomas.
Today the following students attended the NSWCIS Cross Country Championships: Isaac Brooks, Hamish Campbell, Liam McFarlene, Charlie Parker, Daisy Thomas and Sofia Thorne. More details to follow.
Are you every wondering what might happen in a Yr 7 Science classroom? This week, we have additional photos included showing several Yr 7 scientists working on the distillation of ink. Students were able to test practical skills and improve their cooperation due to the complexity of this experiment. Students also needed to assess the risks of boiling water, steam and using hot equipment.
Completed annually, the Redlands Behaviour Awareness Survey (BAS) allows students to express their opinions about the school environment, endorse positive contributions from students and identify any undesirable behaviours that are not aligned with the values of Redlands. Results will be shared with the Senior Campus Counsellor and Year Advisors but students who report information will remain anonymous. The BAS for Yr 7 2019 will be completed Tuesday Week 8 during Pastoral Care time.
Term 2 Pastoral Care: Hitting Our Stride
Students are continuing to focus on refining their habits, study skills and other tools for success by revisiting many ideas introduced to them in Term 1 and adding a few new ones to their repertoire. The Yr 7 Pastoral Program has been designed to include strategies and ideas from: Burn Bright Program, Pru Salter’s Study Skills, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey and feedback from our wonderful Yr 7 cohort. A snapshot of our program each week includes:
Monday – Chapel
Tuesday – Tools for Success and Assessment Support
Wednesday – Student-Led Tutorial Sessions
Thursday – Year Meeting
Friday – Community Days and Peer Support
