Year 7
Yr 7 Pastoral Care Term 2
Welcome back to all Yr 7 students following the break. The focus for Pastoral Care in Term 2 is on developing strong personal habits. Students will reflect on progress in Term 1, meeting individually with their Tutor to discuss their Approach to Learning results and set personal goals for Term 2. Tutors will continue to assist with organisation (ie. use of Student Planners, lockers etc). Main events for Term 2 include NAPLAN testing, Athletics Carnival, Gala Arts and Semester 2 reports.
The goals of our program are to assist students with developing good personal habits which will establish strong foundations for their choices through high school and beyond. By the end of Term 2, students should be able to:
- Recognise how they can take responsibility for their choices and life.
- Define their personal mission and goals in life.
- Prioritise, and do the most important things first.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN takes place in Week 3. On Tuesday 15 May is Language Conventions and Writing. On Wednesday 16 May is Reading and on Thursday 17 May is Numeracy. The NAPLAN tests are designed to assess the skills of Australian students in literacy and numeracy. The specific purposes are:
- to collect data from the population of Yrs 3, 5, 7 and 9 students for reporting to parents/carers and schools for systematic reporting
- to accommodate the assessment of students against national minimum standards.
To participate fully and efficiently each student should bring the following equipment:
- 2B or HB pencils – no mechanical pencils
- An eraser
- A sharpener
- A calculator (for the Numeracy – Calculator allowed test)
- A blue or black pen (for the Writing Task)
Information about the tests for parents and schools is available on the NAPLAN website.

Merits and Credit Points
Well done to the many Yr 7 students who received sporting Merits last term. Congratulations also to our many students who won a prize in our Star Awards draw during our final assembly in Term 1. A reminder that each Credit Point a student in Yr 7 receives equates to one entry in our Star Awards draw.
Achievements and Performances
Please notify your child’s Tutor, Ms Walker and me of any student achievements (academic/sporting/ performing arts etc) so that we are able to recognise them appropriately either in Note Day or our Year Assembly. If any student would like to perform a drama, debating, dance, musical item or speech at our fortnightly Year Assembly, they should contact me or Ms Walker. It is an excellent opportunity to build confidence and practise public performances.
Communication
A reminder that should you have a general questions about Yr 7, much information and key contacts can be found on the Year 7 2018 Redlands Pulse page. If you are unable to find necessary contacts, please contact your child’s Tutor who will be able to assist.
