Year 7
Angus McLachlan
Congratulations to Angus McLachlan who has received a scholarship to the Princess Grace Academy in Monaco. A terrific achievement and very well deserved! Congratulations Angus.
Vaccinations
Our second and final round of HPV Vaccinations were held on Wednesday. Yr 7 were absolute superstars, taking the jab in their stride. If your child was absent and had their first vaccination at school in March, they are able to have a catch-up vaccination at school in 2019.
Assistance Dogs Australia
Thank you all for your kind support of our fundraising activities for Assistance Dogs Australia. Ms Walker and I were overwhelmed by the number of yummy treats provided for our Bake Sale in Week 4 (our desks were piled with countless cakes, slices, cookies, muffins). On Wednesday, we held the House Coin Competition and your generous contributions were so much appreciated (funds are still being tallied). Congratulations to McDouall for winning the coin completion, they will be enjoying a pizza lunch in Week 7. Notable mention goes to Lily Swift (supported by Roseby) for creating a coin ‘doggy’ artwork. Thank you to our Service Prefects and House Captains for their assistance with this event. Whether it’s a pet providing companionship, or an assistance dog supporting people with disabilities, our canine friends always come through for us. We look forward to welcoming Assistance Dogs Australia to Redlands on Friday.
Burn Bright
On Wednesday 21 November, Burn Bright will be visiting Yr 7 to run a full day program called Recipe for Success. The program provides students with a toolkit to help them build important skills that will assist them in Secondary School. It assists young people to build a sense of identity, supports new friendships and enhances self-efficacy to improve resilience.
Pastoral Care – Student Led Assemblies
Yr 7 are hijacking Year Meetings! A core group of students have eagerly met each week to plan and shape two assemblies they feel passionate about.
- Help! I’m Freaking Out (Week 6) | Students reflect on examinations and consider personal strategies to assist during times of pressure in order to promote balance (and a litter humour).
- Love Yourself (Week 7) | This assembly will explore how we can find value from the inside out rather than from external sources – value beyond looks and appearances.
Both topics connect nicely with content covered in our Burn Bright workshop on Wednesday in Week 6.
