Year 7

News and Achievements
  • There are over 100 Merits which have been awarded to Yr 7 students for their involvement in the Winter Sport season. Merits will be presented during Tutor Time on Friday. Information on Merits can be found in the Student Planner.
  • Spirit Week was a hit in Week 9. On Friday, Yr 12 hosted a lip-sync battle at lunch which morphed into some good-old dancing. I took much joy in watching Yr 7 thoroughly enjoy the experience, busting some fantastic moves and readily involving themselves in dance circles with a range of Year Groups.

  • Maddie Barwise and Nick Jackson were the 2018 Football Spirit Award recipients. The Spirit Awards were introduced by Yr 12 2018. The awards recognise students in the Secondary School who embody the values and spirit of Redlands.
  • Helena Dracakis placed 2nd in the Junior Category of the Vocal Competition this week with her song Sway by Michael Buble. Well done!
  • Emilie Bessell made the Basketball 1sts team – a huge achievement in Yr 7 and a wonderful reflection of her skills.
  • Emilie Bessell and Samuel Chubb represented Redlands at the 2018 CIS Athletics Carnival.
  • Congratulations to Sebastien Griffith and his Hockey team (Ryde Div 1 U14s) who won their Grand Final a few weeks ago.
  • Best wishes to all students who will be auditioning for the Redlands 2019 Musical Strictly Ballroom.
  • Well done to the following students for their achievement in the 2018 ICAS English Assessment: Kieran Alexandratos (Credit), Isabella Havryk (Distinction), Joseph Irvine (Merit) and Oscar Whatmough (Credit).
  • Fiona Carson received a Bronze Award in the Education Perfect Humanities Championships 2018.
  • There are a number of students who have shown moral courage and wonderful empathy towards others this week. We have spoken to these students individually and thank them for embodying and upholding the values of Redlands.
  • We love hearing the achievements of Yr 7. As students are involved in numerous Sports and Cocurricular commitments, it can be challenging to keep across all achievements. We welcome updates, so please feel free to shoot us an email with any exciting news.
Examinations and Study Guides

As you’re aware, examinations will be held in Week 3, Term 4. The examination timetable is now available on Redlands Pulse and iLearn. All subjects will make a study guide available on iLearn for students to access. Most are already available. Please contact your son/daughter’s teacher for individual inquiries. Please note – all Sports trainings are on as usual during examinations. Students are encouraged to ensure their study notes are up-to-date through the holidays and engage in some revision.

During Pastoral Care, students have been exploring active studying, summarising and preparing for examinations. In Week 1, Term 4 we will examine test taking technique. Students have access to resources on iLearn. Parents can find supporting information on the Study Skills Handbook (username: redlands | password: 68results).

Yr 7 Pastoral Care Team

I would like to thank Mr Newling for his care and support of Cowper Blue in Term 3. Mr Newling joined Redlands as a Long Service Leave appointment with the History Department. As a Yr 7 Tutor, he settled into our team quickly and developed a wonderful relationship with his Tutees. We wish Mr Newling the best of luck in his future journey. In Term 4, Mr Okawa will be taking Long Service Leave, Ms Mai Takamura will be looking after Cowper Yellow during this time. We look forward to working with Ms Takamura through Term 4 and welcoming Mr Okawa back in 2019.

Summer Uniform

All students are expected to arrive on day 1 of Term 4 in full summer (fitting) uniform. Many of our students have had growth spurts and need hem length adjustments. There will be a uniform check on day 1 – this includes hair. We also encourage all students to have their blazer and tie cleaned before the start of the new term. Uniform requirements can be found in the Student Planner.
