An Adventure to the Junior School – Chat and Connect
This week a few Yr 7s graciously donated their time to help in the Junior School, supporting their Wellbeing Day, before then holding Q+A panels for the current Yr 6 students, soon to be Yr 7, 2024!
Thank you to Kate, Liv, Nat, Brodie, Mackenzie and Nico who assisted in the Wellbeing Day, helping to sell teddy bear ears and pens for charity, managing team sports on the oval and generally being a positive presence to encourage students and add joy and enthusiasm to the event.
Thank you also to Alice, Ella, Issy, Angus, Henry and Leo who arrived a bit later and joined forces with the others to share their knowledge with the Yr 6 students. In a series of Q&A sessions, they thoughtfully fielded important questions about sport commitments, difficulties of home learning and how their class and Tutor groups would be organised, among many more. They also responded to some challenging questions about appropriate behaviour in the Secondary School and how many detentions they had earned in the time here! The students were excellent models for the school, responding with care and compassion and offering a clear picture of life in the Secondary School for our new Yr 7s.
Are Yr 7 Good at Mathematics? You Can Count On It!
On Tuesday, during our Leaders Assembly for Yrs 7-9, Ms Pittard, Head of Mathematics, awarded certificates to students who had received Distinctions and High Distinctions in the recent Australian Mathematics Competition. The AMC is the largest problem-solving competition of its kind, with more than 170,000 participants from over 2000 schools. The participants are often drawn from the best mathematicians in their school, making student achievements even more notable. Yr 7 excelled in this space, achieving 3 High Distinctions and 17 Distinction awards.
This year, it was extremely exciting to learn that a Yr 7 student earned a rare Australian Mathematics Competition Prize. An AMC Prize is achieved only by scoring in the top 3 tenths of one percent of the thousands of AMC participants across multiple countries. Huge congratulations for his display of exceptional problem-solving skills goes to Lachlan Carter. Lachlan ranked 47th overall in Yr 7 AMC mathematicians, and received a Prize Certificate, voucher and a ‘Best in School’ Certificate for the School’s Highest Standardised Score.
Congratulations also to Liv Law and Phoebe Sun, who received High Distinctions, and Angus Baird, Gabby Demian, Jason Gong, Angus Goodall, Thys Hulsbosch, Aimee Kang, Lucas Keall, Fergus Kerr, Joshua Lim, Ruari MacLochlainn, Anay Mishra Mall, Aaron Oh, Connor Price, James Priestley, Liam Randall, Lauren Rolfe and Eloise To, who all achieved Distinctions.
