Year 7
Week 1 – We Survived and Thrived in Term 1, so bring on Term 2!
Welcome back to another action-packed term at Redlands! It was wonderful to see everyone returning with smiling faces, eager to start the term with their front foot forward. Students looked resplendent in their crisp winter uniforms with blazers adding a touch of class.
Please do remember that blazers need to be worn throughout the winter terms. For further clarity on all uniform requirements, please review the Secondary School information documents found on our Yr 7 page on Pulse.
On Wednesday, we commenced Term 2 with a Tutor session where student connections were encouraged and many a holiday story was shared. Tutors enthusiastically welcomed students back to Redlands, encouraging them to continue to build on their efforts and successes from Term 1.
Following this, the Secondary School moved to Dunnet Hall for their annual Anzac Day service. Yr 7 demonstrated excellent behaviour, respectfully listening to the important messages of courage, camaraderie and mateship shared by our presenters. Thank you and well done to Lachlan Carter who confidently opened proceedings by offering the acknowledgement of country in front of the whole Secondary School.
The Anzac Day service allows the school to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who have engaged in the armed forces to defend Australia and support values of justice, fairness and equality across the globe. Mrs Van de Peer’s own brother, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Van de Peer, offered powerful reflections on the role of communications technology in modern warfare, encouraging students to be aware of how modern conflicts like that in Ukraine have demonstrated a shift in the weaponry of war to be increasingly information based. It was an important provocation towards students considering the impacts of social media technologies in their modern world. I encourage you to read the full account of the ceremony on Pulse.
After the service, students fell back into the rhythm of the regular school timetable, now with bells returned to signal class time – something missing last term due to a lightning strike! This helped all students get to their first class in a timely fashion.
Term 2 might be a short term, but it will no doubt be jam-packed. Already, students have begun ‘Growth Conversation’ in Tutor time, seeking to reflect on their Term 1 performance and develop goals to achieve their best this term. The Winter Sport season is also in full swing with regular training commencing on Thursday afternoon and representative games occurring this weekend.
Mrs Adams and I are looking forward to seeing the heights to which Yr 7 will soar this term.
