Year 7

Jeans for Genes Day: Friday 5 August

This year, Redlands is supporting Jeans for Genes because we want to help discover treatments and cures for the 1 in 20 kids facing a birth defect or genetic disease. We have decided to go classic and wear Denim! Please help us support the vital research. Jeans for Genes makes possible.

Students can help by:

  • Wearing denim this Friday with a gold coin donation for a non-uniform fundraiser
  • Making a donation here

House Debating

We have had a good response in terms of Yr 7 students wishing to participate in our House Debating Competition, which will take place throughout Term 3. Students who may not make the final teams should still come along to the coaching sessions, as Debating is a great activity to promote confidence; develop creative and critical thinking skills, along with collaborative strategies.

In Wks 3 – 5, our Yr 7s will begin coaching with Yr 11 students to prepare for these debates. During Wk 6 we have Cowper versus Dumolo; Wk 7 MacDouall versus Roseby and the Yr 7 Final is slated to occur live in the Edwards Auditorium Week 9.

Many thanks to Ms Rachel Beggs (rbeggs@redlands.nsw.edu.au) for her organisation of this event.

Redlands Online Safety Hub

If you have not had a chance to explore the resources and information included in the Redlands Online Safety Hub, please take a moment to browse the incredible information provided to parents around various online platforms, online trends and suggestions for how to support your teenager as they are being exposed to more online temptations each day. The Online Safety Hub supports the school community by providing practical insights, and advice, directly from internationally renowned Online Safety and Digital Wellness Experts. Further information is currently provided on the following topics with information updated regularly: Onlyfans, Discord, Teens Trading Cryptocurrency, Roblox vs Minecraft, Snapchat, Fortnite, Among Us, TikTok and At-Home Learning.

Conversation starters for how to discuss these challenging topics with your child are also included to support you with online predators, sexting & nudes and online bullying. Blogs have been created for specific discussion topics and a function for parents to submit further requests for support on topics that may not be covered is also a fantastic option for parents to engage in learning and supporting their teens in being smart and safe online.
