Dr Tessa Opie – ‘Respectful Relationships Education: At School and in the Home’.
On Monday 23rd May, Dr Opie delivered an information evening on Relationships and Sexuality Education to Redlands parents and carers. Dr Tessa Opie is the founder and director of inyourskin® and is an advocate for healthy and consenting relationships. She has extensive experience in education delivery and training facilitation. Tessa has worked as an educator across the government, not-for-profit, and private sectors, and has ongoing experience as a guest lecturer at various universities.
Her approach is sex-positive, evidence-based, and harm reduction-focused. It requires participants to actively consider their relationship values, attitudes, and expectations, in a social climate that feeds us often misleading messages about sex and relationships.
In August, Dr Opie will run a one hour workshop for Year 7 students at Redlands. The content of this session will be age appropriate and tailored specifically for each year group in line with our relationships, consent and sexuality education curriculum. Further information regarding the structure and nature of this session will be made available closer to the date.
da Vinci Decathlon
On Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 May a group of Year 7 students took part in the da Vinci Decathlon via Zoom. These students worked exceptionally hard on some very challenging papers. A particular highlight was our Year 7s’ knowledge that they demonstrated on the cartography and legacy papers. Abby Stante, Sam Ashby, Charlie Reeves, Elodie Melvin, Liliana Halfen, Sophia Liu and Samuel Turton are to be congratulated for their enthusiastic participation on Tuesday.
ISA Cross Country
The following students were selected to represent Redlands at the ISA Cross Country Carnival, that occurred yesterday 25 May; Kiara Murphy, Katie Jennings, Eva Blundell, Matilda Carlyon, Tom Brown, Alexander Kraszewski Francia, Daniel Benoliel, Maie Clissa, Alice Franceschi, Amelie Beeton, Finn Gurney, Nicholas Meagher, Daniel Gordon, Matthew Walker, Rowan Petersen, Ava Atkinson and Amelie Dewar.
The carnival was held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park and whilst the rain stayed away the ground was particularly sodden and therefore challenging for athletes. Our Year 7 students ran a 3Km course with Finn Gurney achieving 2nd place and Nick Meagher 8th place in the Under 12 Boys. Overall, the Redlands Girls Team placed 4th and our Boys Team placed 3rd which was an exceptional result for our School.
