Year 7

Welcome to Term 3

In Pastoral Care, students have started meeting one-on-one with their Tutors, reflecting on progress and setting goals for the coming term. I managed to see most students on Tuesday and enjoyed hearing wonderful stories of staycations and vacations; it was an absolute joy to see everyone’s smiling faces.

This term, we warmly welcome Mr David Newling to the Yr 7 Pastoral team. This week, Mr Newling has enjoyed getting to know Cowper Blue. We wish Ms Privett warm wishes as she steps into the role of Acting Yr 9 Assistant Advisor for Term 3. Sadly, we farewell Ms Kate Carolan (Dumolo Blue) at the end of Week 2. Ms Carolan is moving to Dubai shortly. We sincerely thank her for supporting her Tutor group so well as they commenced Yr 7 and wish her all the best on her new journey. New Tutors will be in contact to introduce themselves in the coming weeks.

Cyber Safety Presentations

On Monday 30 July Cyber safety expert Brett Lee is coming to Redlands to deliver a presentation to students and parents.

The Secondary School presentations challenge student’s mindsets and assumptions about the realities of the online world. This is achieved through real and sometimes confronting presentations with life lessons that can’t be denied. In all of this, presentations aim to empower students with the knowledge they need to act responsibly in the online environment.

There will also be a seminar for parents in Redlands Hall from 6pm until 7.30pm. With students readily diving into the online world, I strongly encourage parents attend this event. During the parent session, Brett will discuss the topic of digital compliance and internet safety. Brett is incredibly engaging and provides powerful information in a way that will bring to life possible online dangers and responsibilities which are part of your child’s digital world. Strategies regarding protection and prevention will empower parents to help reduce online risks within the home with very simple adjustments. Areas that will be covered are: social networking, the law online, identity protection and cyberbullying as well as the key role parents play in keeping young people safe online.

Jeans for Genes Day

On Friday 3 August Redlands will be dressing in denim to support Jeans for Genes Day. A gold coin donation will be collected during Tutor Time.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Yr 7 Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Wednesday 1 August in the Lang Gym. Wednesday will be a busy night and it will be important that interview times are adhered to. Interviews are a wonderful opportunity to discuss Semester 1 Reports and class progress.
