Year 7

Term 2 Reflections

I can’t believe we are at the end of Term 2 and half way through the year already! It has been another eventful term. This term, our Pastoral Care program assisted students with developing good personal habits which will hopefully establish strong foundations for their choices through high school and beyond. At this point students should be able to:

  1. Recognise how they can take responsibility for their choices
  2. Define their personal goals
  3. Prioritise, and do the most important things first.

Our students have also been busy little bees involved in many activities. Key events in Term 2 included NAPLAN, Gala Arts, Cross Country (ISA and CIS), Senior Music Festival, Senior Athletics Carnival… the list goes on! We wish you all a happy and safe holiday and look forward to welcoming students back in Term 3.

Reports

Semester 1 Reports will be sent to families these holidays. Please contact your child’s teachers regarding any subject specific queries. Parent Teacher Interviews (see Key Dates below) will also provide a good opportunity to discuss progress. Tutors are happy to assist with any general inquiries or administrative issues.

The holiday break is well deserved and will provide a good opportunity for students to reflect on their progress and Semester 1 Report. Students will start next semester meeting with their Tutor to reflect on their progress, evaluate Term 2 goals and plan for Term 3.

As Reports are received, we’re encouraging students to consider the relationship between results and their Approach to Learning. Another way in which parents can get regular updates on student progress is to read the teacher feedback when assessments are handed back. This provides a fantastic opportunity to consider areas of strengths and areas needing more attention.

Credit Point Prize Draw

On Friday we will recognise the efforts of Yr 7 in our Credit Point Prize Draw. Students receive one entry into the draw for each Credit Point they have earned throughout the term. Students also receive an entry for each event they competed in at the Athletics Carnival. We have an extraordinary amount of entries this term and we are super proud of the efforts of Yr 7 in demonstrating wonderful examples of the Redlands Values in class and the wider community.

Kanga Cup

Best wishes to Sebastien Griffith, Joe Irvine, Ethan McFarlane and Finn Woodward all of whom are competing in Kanga Cup 2018. As mentioned in Week 8 Note Day, the Kanga Cup is the largest International Youth Football Tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. Held annually each July in Canberra, the week-long event proudly champions the mission of Uniting the Youth of the World through Football. All boys, along with Madison Barwise, were recognised in our Year Meeting in Week 8.

SRC

Thank you to Sebastien Griffith, Jessica Marshall, Oliver Noakes and Koko Sawa who served as Yr 7 members of the Student Representative Council in Semester 1. They led Yr 7 with grace and provided insight into the needs and wishes of the student body. We wish Nicholas Jackson, Charlotte Scamps, Alyssa Tinetti and Harley van der Pluijm the best of luck as they step into the role for Semester 2.
