Yr 12 Parent Teacher Interviews

These will be held on Wednesday 17 June.

New Learning Hub

Yr 12 have been given the privilege of using the many breakout study spaces in the New Learning Hub during recess, lunch and their study periods. Many students have already been taking advantage of the new spaces made available to them. We encourage all our Yr 12 students to use this area in a respectful and mature manner to ensure that we can continue using it in the future.

 

Paul Dillon Presentation

In the presentations, Paul talks to the students about the research around young people engaging in drugs and alcohol consumption, as well as encouraging them to promote positive norms around the number of young people choosing not to drink alcohol or use other drugs. It is a three year, sequential educational program and students’ feedback from these sessions each year is extremely positive. Some of the topics Paul covered are below.

  • Acknowledgement of social distancing restrictions and that young people are currently socialising with their friends in a different way, ie., online.
  • Discuss particular pressure on Yr 12s and the possible loss of a number of ‘rites of passage’, eg. Schoolies, being school leaders, importance of looking after themselves and their friends in today’s world and how vital it is to get assistance if it is needed.
  • Process of random breath testing (RBT) and how long P-platers need to wait to drive after drinking alcohol to ensure they have a 0.00 BAC.
  • Ecstasy (MDMA) and its potential risks.
  • Importance of seeking help as quickly as possible should something go wrong.

2020 Legacy Team Update

The cohort have collectively decided on purchasing a ping pong table to be situated in the green space around the New Learning Hub for all current and future students to enjoy plus contribute funds to the Redlands Foundation Scholarship and continue the Legacy of previous cohorts.
