Greenlands Week – 5/6 September

As part of our celebration of Greenlands Week this week, there are a number of environmental themed activities led by the Environment Prefects and Prefect body.

Thursday 5 September: Redlands will be hosting a school community screening of 2040 at the Orpheum Cinema at 6.00pm. All proceeds from this event go towards environmental initiatives at Redlands. Bookings can be made through TryBooking.

Friday 6 September: The Secondary School will be holding a mufti day with a gold coin donation (funds raised going to GCF). Students may wear green or animal themed attire on the day. All proceeds will go to the Giraffe Conservation Program at Taronga Zoo.

Prue Salter Presentation

Last Monday, Dr Prue Salter presented a study skills session titled The Year 12 Countdown to the students. The aim was to help Yr 12s to stay motivated and make full use of the remaining weeks before their final examinations. Dr Salter suggested that students should work through their returned Trial HSC or IB Mock exam papers thoroughly, complete all study notes by the end of this term and pinpoint areas of weakness and seek help. The students also received planning grids that were tailor-made for IB and HSC. Many students found it useful to plan and allocate their study time over the weeks prior and during the final exams using the guidelines Prue explained.

Parents are encouraged to review the handout from the session with students. This is often helpful for students to clarify their approach if you have them explain their study plan. Parents can also access the presentation slides and planning grid here. To access this website, please log in by using:

Yr 12 Stress Better Workshop

This Thursday, our school counsellor Ms Tanya Fullarton will run a workshop during Tutor Time, offering practical strategies and tips for students who have signed up for this event. A big thank you to Ms Fullarton for supporting students through this stressful period with your time and guidance.

Final Weeks

All students have been encouraged to make the most of the final weeks at school by working closely with their teachers and maximising their learning experiences. As parents, you can continue to encourage your son or daughter to try and maintain a healthy diet, get good sleep and take some regular exercise as this will aid in their focus. Above all, I hope the students enjoy their last weeks of school and finish on a high note knowing they have tried to do their very best.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Grace Elliot who completed the Gold Award for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in 2019. She will attend the Gold Award Ceremony, which takes place at Town Hall on Friday 13 September. She will be presented her award by the Duke’s representative, HRH Prince Edward.

Trae Hare-Boyd recently participated in the Asia-Pacific Spartan Championships Endurance Race held in Northern China, which included six disciplines, ranging from the five kilometre sprint to the 21 kilometre endurance race up and down a ski mountain with 30 obstacles to accomplish. Of over 250 racers, Trae came in at first in his age group of 18-25. What a fantastic result and he should be congratulated on giving his absolute all in this competition.
