Year 12
I’m Proud of You
The phrase everyone needs to hear, really needs to be heard this week. To teachers, Half Yearly Examinations are internal assessments to gauge student understanding. To many parents they are also an indication of progress and of reasonable expectations. To many students Half Yearly Examinations are the biggest, longest, most stressful gateways to their future. They threaten to expose their mistakes, draw on their weaknesses and rule out future opportunities. Although this is not the case, we can’t always expect students to be able to see things in context when they have only experienced a fraction of the journey. ‘I’m proud of you’ is a powerful phrase that can balance self-pressure by strengthening self-worth.
Tutor Meeting
During our Professional Development Day, our Yr 12 Pastoral Team welcomed back Kim Hurley from Long Service Leave and reflected on our progress so far. We reviewed the student goals that were set at the start of the year and celebrated the achievements of many students who stayed focussed and put their words into action throughout Term 1. We also reviewed student involvement in the community, commitment to activities, effort in classes, academic progress, examples of empathy and gratitude. We are very proud of the Year Group and their resilience throughout a very long and challenging term. During Term 2, Tutors will meet with each individual student to reflect, acknowledge growth and plan for the term ahead.
Community Focus
Thank you to Maxime Dupont and Georgina Joyce who came to the aid of a man who had collapsed near the bus stop on Military Road after school last term. They talked to the man to reassure him and called over Mr Gray to assist. Maxime sought our School Nurse, Ms Macken, while Georgina stayed to comfort the man who turned out to be a Redlander from the Class of 2007. Ms Scott who was also on the scene said, ‘it was a privilege to witness their efforts to care for the man, they were genuinely concerned and managed the situation well.’
Examination Illness and Misadventure
Any issues concerning illness or misadventure throughout the examination period should be directed to the appropriate Dean as soon as possible. This to ensure students meet IB and NESA requirements.
