Year 12

International Day

On Tuesday International Day was held to celebrate the wide cultural diversity at Redlands and our students’ role as global citizens. A big thank you to the Prefects who organised another well-received whole School Assembly. This provided an opportunity to broaden students’ horizons by learning more about their contemporaries’ cultures, while forming a greater understanding of their own place in the wider community. It was also a great pleasure to see many Yr 12s dressing in national costumes, colours and sports kits.

Stress Management From a Mindfulness Approach

On Monday during the Year Meeting, we were delighted to have our guest speaker, Ms Glenda Gow, speaking to Yr 12s on how to manage stress with a perspective of mindfulness. Ms Gow is an experienced body psychotherapist, who has over 20 years experience in the health and lifestyle area as a conference presenter and workshop facilitator. Students are reminded to do a regular check with themselves by asking questions, such as “How present am I?” or “How full is my bucket today?”. This would help to bring their awareness to making good choices for self-care if their bucket is nearly full – stress overload. They were also offered with some small yet practical strategies, including taking “brain breaks”, staying hydrated, maintaining soft knees for connections with being grounded (like a tree), as well as practising deep breaths.

Battle of the Bands

Good luck to all Yr 12s, who will compete at the Battle of the Bands this Friday night at Redlands Hall. It will provide a fun and exciting opportunity for all members of our school to celebrate the achievements of our contemporary musicians and show off their hard work and talent. Please come along and cheer them on.
